1. Introduction
===============
This README file contains information for the Intel(R) Desktop Board
Media Series. Please refer to the Help file and any third-party
readme files within the software subdirectories of the DVD for device
driver and application information. Also refer to any Integration
Guide poster included with the product.

Intel(R) Express Installer Version 4.8.2 includes the following new

or updated features:

- Adds early support for the future Microsoft* Windows* 8 operating

system which detects specific editions and service packs for this
new operating system.

- Enables restore point features and Auto login availability when

integrating on a computer that uses supported Microsoft*
operating systems listed in Section 2.

This software also includes many features from past versions of Intel
Express Installer. For example:

- Use of Intel's Download Center Website to download updates for

drivers and application software.

- Intelligent system reboot processing.

****************************************************************
2. System Requirements
======================
Software on this DVD should be installed only on Intel(R)
Desktop Boards with one of the following operating systems:

- Microsoft* Windows* 8 operating systems for 32-bit and

64-bit editions.

- Microsoft* Windows* 7 operating systems for 32-bit and

64-bit editions with Service Pack 2 and up.

- Microsoft Windows XP* Professional and Home Edition with

Service Pack 3 and up.

- Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system

with Service Pack 1 and up.

NOTE: Some applications may require a higher version of Microsoft

Internet Explorer. Please check the specific component's
information in this readme.

NOTE: Installation on computer operating systems for Microsoft

Windows 7 and Windows XP requires that the user either be
logged in as an Administrator or have Administrator
privileges.

NOTE: If your system has other applications running that could

prevent a system reboot, please close those applications
before starting an installation to protect yourself from
loss of any unsaved data.

NOTE: All versions of Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, NT, 2000,
ME, Server 2003, XP Media Center Edition, and Vista are
not supported.

NOTE: Enterprise Editions for Microsoft Windows 7 are not

supported. Also Starter Editions for Microsoft Windows 7
are not supported.

NOTE: Use of Intel drivers with older operating systems that

Microsoft* discontinued or does not fully support should
be considered AS-IS in respect to features, function,
debugging and usability with recently released Intel(R)
Desktop Boards. Some examples of discontinued operating
systems include; XP Windows Media Center Edition, Windows
Millennium Edition, Windows 2000 Professional Edition,
Windows NT, Windows 98 Standard Edition (SE), Windows 98
and Windows 95. Examples of reduced support operating
systems include; some Windows* XP Editions.

3. Known Issues with Intel(R) Express Installer
===============================================
The installer portion of the Intel Express Installer has the
following known issues:

- IMPORTANT: Please read Section 5 for Installation Notes on

known issues and solutions regarding specific drivers on the
Intel Express Installer DVD or CD. Also refer to Section 6
for more information on Intel applications and other third-
party applications.
- An "AFTER" restore point may still be created even if the
"Set Windows System Restore Point" is disabled in the Options
screen (by removing a checkmark from the feature's checkbox).

- Pressing the Ctrl-Tab keys sometimes does not switch focus

within some screens. This may happen after a dialog box
appears. As a workaround, use the mouse to regain focus in
the desired area.

- The mouse-over status of a driver or software application may

display the incorrect installed version when compared to the
DVD version. To verify the final installed version, please
inspect the system's software or driver component.

- When using an Express Installer DVD, if the user accidentally

starts up two instances of the Intel Express Installer program,
the program's screen might not return after a system reboot.
As a workaround, manually re-launch the program by clicking
the EIProcessCaller.exe file that is located in the top (root)
file structure of the DVD. (Earlier versions of Intel Express
Installer used the EIVCD.EXE file.)

- The help file might refer to the old "Help" button rather than
the updated "?" button located on the upper right corner of the
Intel Express Installer screen.

-----
Notes
-----

- Do not remove the Intel Express Installer DVD from the

system's DVD drive until all installation processes are
complete or until instructed by the program.

- When the Intel Express Installer application installs drivers

and software, it creates two system restore-points (BEFORE and
AFTER) that mark the beginning and end of the installation
session. If the user clicks the "Cancel" button during the
install operation, Express Installer might NOT create the final
"AFTER" restore-point. Also, if drivers or software fail to
install, the AFTER restore point might not appear.

- If your Windows XP system displays the message below, please

read the directions that follow:

"The software you are installing for this hardware

<SOFTWARE NAME ID> has not passed Windows Logo
testing to verify its compatibility with WINDOWS XP."

The drivers being used are early versions and need updates at
a later time. You will need to click the "Continue Anyway"
button to proceed. This message appears during some new
desktop board releases when final WHQL certified drivers have
not yet been released from software vendors.

The Driver Signing message can be disabled for Windows XP

based systems by the following procedure:
1. Click the "Start" button. Then right-click the "My Computer"
icon and select "Properties."

2. Click on the "Hardware" tab and click on "Driver Signing."

3. Click the "Ignore - ..." option and then click "OK" twice.

- Note that the EIReport.txt file (or its renamed version) is

saved as a Unicode file. Microsoft Internet Explorer* displays
Unicode correctly for all operating systems supported by the
Intel Express Installer DVD. For non-English Windows
operating systems, viewing or printing the content of a saved
report using WordPad may not produce the same appearance as
displaying the report in Express Installer's Report screen.

- For easier viewing of any version of the license file, either

open or print the file located near the root of the Intel Express
Installer DVD. For example, use "License0409.rtf" to view the
English version of the file or "License0804.rtf" for the
Simplified Chinese version of the file. Note that your system
must have the specific language font installed.

- Intel Express Installer only supports display settings that

are set to "Small Fonts" (Normal size, 96 dpi). If this setting
is set to a different value, the Express Installer window and
dialog boxes may appear larger, or characters and strings may be
truncated. To correct this, go to the Control Panel, click the
Display icon, click the Settings tab, and click the Advanced
button. Set Display's font size for "Small Fonts" (Normal size,
96 dpi).
