Right Hand Picking Exercises
Play each measure (cell) several times, always alternating the down and up strokes. Then mix and match, by
selecting four different cells, for example, and repeating the whole group. You can also insert cells 15 and 16
into your practice to give the right hand some rest. Start at a slow tempo, then increase the speed gradually,
making sure the playing is clean.

Left Hand Scalar Exercises
Play the scale up and down using all down strokes, then alternate the down and up strokes, then all up strokes
and possibly also 'reverse' alternate picking, starting with an up stroke followed by down stroke, etc.

 

In the 'swing feel,' the first note takes approximately two-thirds of a beat, the second note the remaining one-third,
so it can be written as if using triplets. Play the whole scale up and down.
