1. The Department of Education, Division of Davao del Norte will conduct the 2016 DIVISION SCIENCE
AND MATHEMATICS QUEST on October 13-15, 2016 at Sto. Tomas Central Elementary School SPED
Center for elementary and Sto. Tomas National High School for Secondary, Sto. Tomas, Davao del
Norte.
2. The theme of this activity is “Science and Mathematics: Go Global, Go for Excellence Through
Research and Inventions to Save Mother Earth.” This activity aims to:
a. promote academic excellence in science and mathematics through contests, camaraderie and
sportsmanship;
b. harness the knowledge, skills and values of science club leaders, students, teachers/coordinators
and science enthusiasts to cope with and apply the developments and advancements in science
and technology;
c. enhance the knowledge and skills of students and teachers through mathematics and science
quia, fair, and Sci-Dama contests
3, The Participants to this Division activity are the following:

4, Participants are expected to bring the following:

4.2 Sci-dama/Damath — board, chips, timer, calculator, ballpen, etc.

5. A registration fee of Fifty Pesos (P 50.00) shall be charged to each contestant, teacher coach, school
head contestant, adviser, coordinators to defray the cost of testing materials, medals and other
incidental expenses incurred during the conduct of the activity.
6. The participants for SIP & and SIM were advised to submit their manuscript on October 7, 2016
(Friday), in three (3) copies, attn. : EPS Labasan. Failure to submit the papers on the scheduled date
shall not be accepted anymore. There will be also a pre-registration on the same date by the SCAAD
Officers and on the same date at the Division Office by the SCAAD Officers.
7. The travel, registration fee, and other incidental expenses incurred by the participants shall be
charged to school MOOE and other sources of funds such as PTA, Municipal LSB and Science and
Math Club Funds, subject to its availability and the usual accounting and auditing rules and
regulations. Participants from the private schools shall make financial arrangements with their
respective school authorities for the payment of the registration fee and other related expenses.
8. Deped Officials & teachers will be granted service credits/ compensatory overtime credits (COC) for
rendering services during the said activities that fall on Saturdays.
9. To ensure the continuity of the lessons, the coordinators and members of the working committees
shall prepare their lesson plans ahead of the schedule and turn-over the same to the teachers
assigned by the school head to ensure for the compliance of DepEd Order 9, s.2005.
10. Immediate and wide dissemination of this memorandum to all concerned is desired.

‘GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS QUEST
All contestant, coaches and coordinators should register and pay the registration fees.
All coaches of different events are not allowed to enter the event area while the contest is on-going.
Only the judges, arbiters, facilitators and officials are allowed inside the event area.
. A contestant can qualify for only one (1) contest event.
. There must be no tie entry for any event in the Division Level.
In order to determine the over-all Champion in this Division Level, points of 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1 will be
assigned to the first, second, third , fourth and fifth rank respectively in all events to be contested.
DIVISION SCIENCE AND MATH QUIZ
Only the top two (2) district quiz winners in the elementary and top one (1) school winner in the
secondary per grade levels both in Science and Mathematics can participate in the quiz.
Only the contestant can make protest immediately after the question is being answered and before
reading the next question.
There will be only one round for Science Quiz.
SCI- DAMA/ DAMATH/ SCIMATH CHESS & RUBIKS CUBE FOR ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY LEVELS:
Only the top one (1) district and for secondary, the school winner in each contest category can joi
the Sci-Dama/ Damath/SciMath Chess/ Sudoku/Scidoku & Rubiks Cube competitions,
. Contestants must be at their event area before the opening program will start.
. The rules for each event must be observed.
SUDOKU/ SCIDOKU
Each contestant will be given three puzzle with varying level of difficulty (easy, average and difficult).
‘A maximum time allotment of 30 minutes is given for the entire duration of the tournament.
For Scidoku, a standard 6 x 6 grid square will be used by Grades 3 & 4; 8 x8 grid square for Grades 5 & 6
and 9x 9 grid square for Grade 7 to 10.
For Sudoku, 9 x 9 square will be used.
Each correct answer in every box will receive the following corresponding points; 1 point each for easy,
1.5 points for average and 2 points for difficult level.
In case of a tie, another set of puzzle for a time limit of 20 minutes will be given. The first contestant to
fill up all the squares correctly will be declared as winner. If not all answers are correct, the highest
number of points will win the competition
Talking is not permitted (to distract other players), nor making distracting noises. The only person a
competitor may talk is the judge.
Food and drinks are not permitted in the tournament are , unless directed so by a judge.
Keep papers covered at all times. Not covering the paper will be considered as cheating,

Only the top one (1) district and for secondary, the school winner in each contest category can join in
the competition,
‘The medium to be used are craypass for elementary and pastel for secondary.
The size of the illustration board to be used is %.
