Red Fox Characteristics

Size: Length of 18-33"; weighs 6-24 lbs

Red foxes have a life span of about two
Season: Year-round
to four years. They are introduced to the
United States from Europe during the
mid-1800s. They often travel alone and
can appear in suburban areas, forests,
grasslands, mountains, deserts, and
farms. Red foxes feed on rodents,
rabbits, birds, and other small mammals.
They also eat fruit, vegetables, fish,
frogs, and worms. They are flexible according to the habitat they live in, and if they are near
human populated areas, they will opportunistically eat garbage and pet food. Foxes are hunted by
humans for the use of their fur and are frequent victims of road kill.
