Course Name Organization Administration and Supervision of Guidance Counseling


Course Credits 3units
Course Description The course provides an overview of the professional, ethical, legal, theoretical, and practical aspects of
professional counseling for both clinical mental health and school counseling. The historical development of
the counseling profession is explored, as well as the roles, responsibilities, and training required for a variety
of counseling specialties. Students are asked to examine personal motives for entering the counseling field
and to explore professional goals.
It is designed to provide a foundational understanding of the changing school environment including
multicultural issues regarding faculty/teachers, students, and parents/families; the leadership roles and
responsibilities of school counselors within school environments/communities

Classroom Policies Students are expected to complete requirements of this course with a high level of research,
reflection and internalization. To do all the readings for the session weeks, all
assignments/reflections, and projects/products are to be completed. Active participation during class
sessions will be the key. Come to class prepared and expect to learn and teach with and from your
peers. Students missing class are responsible for knowing the information.
