Time (sec)

1. How much time during the total 26 second trip was spent standing still?
(17 – 12) + ( 22 – 18 ) + ( 26 – 23) = 12 seconds
2. How much time was spent moving away from the original position?
12 seconds
3. When did the object begin to move back toward the original position?
At the 17th second
4. What was the object doing between the 12th and 17th second of the trip?
It was standing still.
5. How was the motion of the object different between the first 5 seconds of the trip and then
for the next 4 seconds?
The object moved faster in the next 4 seconds than the first 5 seconds.
6. Why is there never a perfectly vertical line on a position vs. time graph?
If there is a perfect vertical line, the object speed would be infinity , which is impossible.
7. What is the speed of the object during the first 5 seconds of the trip? Show your work.
𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 (𝟔 – 𝟐. 𝟓)
𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒆𝒅 = ≈ ≈ 𝟎. 𝟗 𝒎/𝒔
𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝟓
8. During what part of the trip was the object moving the fastest? Which direction was it
heading while it was traveling at this speed?
From the 17th second to the 18th second of the trip, the object moving is the fatest,
approximately 7 m/s. It moved toward the original point.

Consider the position vs. time graph below and answer the question.

9. Describe the motion of the object during the entire 25 seconds. Include the type of motion
(constant speed, acceleration, or rest) and direction (away or toward starting point) at each
section of the graph (4 pts).
For the first 5 seconds, the speed of the object was accelerating from 0m/s to 1m/s. It kept
moving at a constant speed for the next 5 seconds. From the 10th second to 15th second,
the object stopped. At the 15th second, the object traveled back to its original points for
10 seconds at the constant speed of 0.4 m/s.

10. Which sketch depicts the velocity vs. time graph for the position vs. time graph in question
nine above. Explain your answer. (4 pts.)

Graph A Graph B

Graph A, because the velocity should increase from 0m/s to 1m/s not 1m/s to 0m/s ( Graph
B).
11. Write a possible scenario for the following velocity vs. time graph. Be creative! Include a
description of the type of movement and direction at each change in motion. (5 pts.)

I’m Thanatos, soul collecter of Hades. I’m travelling at the speed 10m/s for 5 second in order to
catch a soul. Because the man’s soul is about to leave his body and if I cannot make it in
time, he will become an evil entity will ruin this world, I accelerated to 12m/s within a 0
second. Then I hit a new demon, which just have formed, it using its power stopped me.
After defeating that demon, I accelerate and then finally collect the men soul.(1.6m/s).
