MR Surgical Manufacturing Materials

List of materials use for surgical reusable instruments

Stainless Steel
SKAB AND CO. uses high quality stainless steel for manufacturing surgical instruments because
of its properties such as corrosion resistance, hardness, formability & long life.
SKAB AND CO surgical instruments, including forceps and scissors are made of the Japanese
steel’s types known as “420, 410, 304”.

Tungsten Carbide

Tungsten carbide (TC), an alloy of tungsten and carbon, is used in the manufacture of such
instruments as needle holders & scissors. Since the TC is harder than the steel used in needles &
blades, it results in instruments with exceptional durability. Usually the TC is soldered or welded
to the jaws or working ends of instruments.

Plastics

SKAB AND CO also uses a range of plastics in the manufacture of handles and other parts. They
are specially formulated to withstand normal sterilizing temperatures.
