Alejandro Reyes Roces(13 July 1924 – 23 May 2011)

Alejandro Roces was a Filipino author,essayist,dramatist and a

National Artist of the Philippine for literature.He earned his bachelor
of arts degree at the University of Arizona where his We Filipinos
are mild drinkers won in a university sponsored contest.A captain in
Marking’s Guerillas during World War II,secretary of Education
under President Diosdado Macapagal , and newspaper
columnist,Alejandro Roces is a recipient of various awards like Rizal
Pro ,Patnubay ng sining at kalinangan and Diwa ng Lahi in 1990 he
received the tanging parangal of the Gawad CCP Para sa sining for
promoting the aicepplication of the arts not only in the service of
education and development but also in the fostering of social
consciousness and the he of a Filipino Society with national pride
and dignity.

WE FILIPINO ARE MILD DRINKERS

Once upon a time in the barrio near the plow fields an American
Soldier ask a farmer to drink whisky.The farmer didn’t accept it
instead he said “We Fiipino are Mild Drinkers”after that the
American Soldier dares to drink mild,so later on after they talk too
much about it then they went to the farmers hat and the American
Soldier met carpio,the farmers cow then got interact with it then
they start drinking mild or should we called it here in the Philippines
lambanog but first the farmer gadderPhilippine lemon or calamansi
to mash it up on the mild to lessen its taste but the American Soldier
refuse to add it on his drink then later on he change his mind when
suddenly his taste turn the unexpected. In a few minutes the
american soldier got drunk then act weirdly and the Filipino farmers
mother rush in,to see whats happening and scream after that it
attract many barrio folks with arms thinking theirs an invaders on
the barrio and then the American Soldier fall down the mud by the
cause of too much drinking mild, after that the Filipino farmer is
now on a quest to return the drunken American Soldier back were he
belongs then he met the friends of the American soldier on their
barracks after that he return their drunken friend back,later on one of
the American Soldier friend ask the Filipino farmer a drink then he
replies”Thanks but we Filipino are mild drinkers”.

Sypnosis:
This story is about an Amercan bragging his ability to drink all kinds
of Liquor to a Filipino farmer, but in the end he got drunk because of
the lambanog that the farmer offered.
It centers on the drinking habits and the cultures of Filipinos and
Americans and it uniquely showed the events that happened during
the war.
