GULFPORT, MS - Capt. Peter Maculan relieved Capt.

Timothy DeWitt as commanding officer of


Naval Construction Group (NCG) 2 during a change of command ceremony at Naval Construction
Battalion Center Gulfport on June 26.

The guest speaker, Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Rear Adm. Brian Brakke
presented DeWitt with the Legion of Merit as an end-of-tour award. DeWitt attributed the award to the
hard work and support of the NCG 2 Sailors and leadership.

DeWitt assumed command of NCG 2 in August of 2017. Under his leadership, the command
successfully oversaw its subordinate units in the construction of vital community projects both at
domestically and overseas. Capt. DeWitt also lead the charge to research and acquire new technologies
like additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

DeWitt has orders to Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Far East in Yokosuka, Japan.
Capt. Maculan transferred from NAVFAC Atlantic, serving as the Deputy Commander for Operations
at the command.

Upon assuming command, Maculan stated he is honored and humbled to be part of this unit of the
construction force, especially NCG 2, where he previously served as Chief Staff Officer.

The role of the NCG is to organize, man, train, maintain, and equip Naval Construction Regiments
(NCRs), Naval Mobile Construction Battalions (NMCBs), the Construction Battalion Maintenance
Unit (CBMU) and the Underwater Construction Team (UCT) to provide supported commanders with
expeditionary engineering forces capable of general engineering and construction, and limited combat
engineering across the full range of military operations.
