History of Patanjali
PATANJALI’S GROWTH JOURNEY
Patanjali began its operations began with Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar,
Uttarakhand. Today, it is one of the largest yoga institutions in the world. Patanjali
Ayurved Limited was founded by Baba Ramdev in 2006 along with Acharya
Balkrishna for research, development, treatment, and the manufacturing of ayurvedic
medicines.
After entering the bulk ayurvedic medicines manufacturing space, Patanjali later
branched out its operations to the FMCG market where it soon established its presence
as a major consumer goods manufacturing company.

A Glimpse of How Patanjali Has Evolved Over the Years

Patanjali has shown immense growth in the last 5 years. Growing at a fast rate, the
company generated over Rs 10,000 Crore in 2017, making it the third largest FMCG
brand after Hindustan Lever Limited and ITC in terms of overall revenue.
The company is now selling a wide variety of products in the FMCG space such as
noodles, biscuits, cosmetics, amla juice, ayurvedic medicines, and Atta.
Patanjali’s CEO, Acharya Balkrishna is now looking to grow the presence of the
brand in the renewable energy industry as well.
PATANJALI’S GROWTH TIMELINE
Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna’s Vision to Bring Electricity into Every
Village, City, and Town Through Clean and Natural Energy Sources
While some parts of our country have advanced in terms of scaling energy demand-
supply and technology, at present, there are several villages and remote areas in India
without electricity. To meet the requirements of this section of the population by
providing them with economically-sound, clean, and efficient electricity solutions,
Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna have entered the renewable energy industry.
From helping farmers with solar water pumps to installing solar street lights in remote
areas without power, Patanjali Renewable is going above and beyond the call of duty
to provide every household in India with a bouquet of energy- efficient products.
PATANJALI RENEWABLE PVT. LTD.
Patanjali wants to leverage solar energy to run its factories. Since most of the solar
panels come from China, and the ones manufactured in India are low-quality, the
company has decided to manufacture solar panels in-house.
“Getting into solar power is in line with the swadeshi movement. With solar
power, each household in India can have a power supply, and we are here to
make that happen.”
- Acharya Balkrishna, Managing Director, Patanjali Ayurveda Limited
With the Narendra Modi government trying to bring the renewable energy movement
to India and generate approximately 100 GW of sun-energy by 2022, Patanjali wants
to tap into the solar energy sector which has not been explored to its entire potential
yet.
