STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“If you see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand”. Since this is the fundamental philosophy
of my life, I have the notion in mind that I am on my way to achieve my dream while writing this
Statement of Purpose to join your esteemed University which will surely enhance my knowledge
base and widen the mental horizon. Let me put to details the experiences that have shaped me:

Having a natural proclivity towards quantitative subjects, I opted for mechanical engineering as
my bachelor’s. This helped me enhance my quantitative aptitude and ability to visualize and define
problems in terms of numbers. My zeal to learn more and develop expertise in domain of my
choice, I was driven to pursue MBA as my post-graduation at BITS Pilani, which is one of the
most reputed universities of India. I choose Finance as my area of specialization as it amused
me, as to how organizations’ growth could all be captured through the movements in financial
markets. And how the trade markers determine the fate of any business.
During my industrial training I got an opportunity to work at Prognosis Partners, as an intern in
business analysis. I used Bloomberg, Capital IQ and Factiva databases to resolve the financial
queries. My role was to deliver solutions to the clients by leveraging primary and secondary
research and database. It helped me gain insights of how can the financial theories be applied to
analyze business in real world.
Intrigued by the capabilities of financial know how I was motivated to take up CFA 1st Level along
with my final semester of post-graduation. Through hard work and clarity of intent, I was
successful in clearing the exam with distinction in first attempt. This gave me an incentive to
further build my career in the same direction and hence I focused on working in a Finance based
Organization.
After graduation I started my career as a Team Lead at JP Morgan & Chase which is one of the
world's biggest investment bank and Financial Services Company. Here my skill horizon
broadened as I got exposed to the technology aspects of finance. It was here that I got a hands
on tools like Xceptor, which I used to automate the manual process of global pricing operations
at JP Morgan and saved approx. 128 FTE. To complement my proficiency in Xceptor I mastered
Alteryx, an automation tool that has predictive models like regression anova, web scraping etc. I
also learnt Tableau that enabled me to take up the ownership of streamlining the stakeholder’s.
At JPMorgan, I had the opportunity to be an integral part of a team where I contributed in the
migration of JPMorgan’s third party vendor tools to in-house tools. In order to upskill and gain
more functionally relevance in my job role I successfully completed certifications in SAS, Excel,
Apache Kafka and Python.
My industrial exposure made me realize the value of Quantitative analysis within finance. It has
become very evident that Increasingly Financial institutions are migrating to analytical tools that
requires knowledge of computation. This has given me the motivation to apply for Masters at your
esteemed university. I believe, a Master’s degree in Computational Finance is the next logical
step towards achieving my career goals. I come with a genuine desire to put in my best to learn
more in the process. I feel confident that a chance to study at Queens Mary College will help me
contribute positively towards the University’s educational philosophy.
