PROSPECTUS
Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Institute of Cell & Molecular Biology is an integral part of Faculty of
Science, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. In 2012, The Five year Integrated M.Sc.
programme was initiated to honor Dr. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Nobel Laureate in
chemistry. The center was established with financial support of INR.13.5 crores from
Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India and seed capital of INR. 1 crore from Gujarat
government. This is an interdisciplinary programme where faculties of various departments,
eminent scientists from national and international centers participate in teaching and
imparting training to students. The students get an opportunity to undergo summer internship
and dissertation as a part of their curriculum at national and international level.
Programme and Curriculum:
5 year integrated M.Sc. Programme in Cell and Molecular Biology
 Conducted in collaboration with the scientists from NCBS-TIFR Bangalore and IISER-
Pune.
 Students get an opportunity to do summer training and dissertation at premier
institutes.
 Intake capacity : 30 students/ Year
 Mode of admission : Entrance test ( All India Level)

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Candidates must have passed Gujarat H.S.C./CBSE/ICSE Examination (10+2) or

equivalent Board examination from the Science stream with English as one of the
subjects during the years 2017, 2018 or 2019.
2. A candidate who has passed an equivalent examination from any other examining
body will have to obtain eligibility certificate from The Maharaja Sayajirao
 University of Baroda (University Office. Opp. Food and Drugs Laboratory,
Vadodara).

3. 50% marks for general category 45% for SEBC & 40% for SC/ST category in theory
and practical pertaining to science (i.e. PCM/PCB/) (or equivalent grade) in Class XII
(or equivalent) examination, from any recognized Board in India. Where only grade
is available, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will
be required.

4. Reservations: As per the Government of Gujarat guidelines.

Number of Seats: There are 35 seats for the course.

Exit Policy - Student once join the Course will exit only after completion of five years of
study. The degree will be Integrated M. Sc. (Cell and Molecular Biology).
Exit option after three years will not be granted.

Documents required will be original as well as self attested copies of:

i. H.S.C. (12th Science) or Equivalent Mark sheet.
ii. School Leaving Certificate.
iii. SC/ST/SEBC/physically challenged certificate, if applicable.
iv. Non-creamy layer certificate in case of SEBC candidate.

The institute has core Cell Biology wing, Molecular Biology wing, Proteomics and analytical
wing with high End research equipments like LSM -710 Confocal Microscope, FACS ARIA III –
Cell Sorter, LCMS/MS, 12K Flex Real Time PCR, 2D-Gel Electrophoresis and Ultracentrifuge.
