Ilioinguinal nerve

Arises from the first lumbar ventral ramus with the iliohypogastric nerve. It passes inferolaterally through the substance of psoas
major and over the anterior surface of quadratus lumborum. It pierces the internal oblique muscle and passes deep to the
aponeurosis of the external oblique muscle. It enters the inguinal canal and then passes through the superficial inguinal ring to
reach the skin.

Branches

 To supply those muscles of the abdominal wall through which it passes.


 Skin and fascia over the pubic symphysis, superomedial part of the femoral triangle, surface of the scrotum, root and
dorsum of penis or labum majus in females.
