NARRATIVE REPORT ON RSPC 2018

With the theme, “Embracing ASEAN Integration: Campus journalists' role in

advancing inclusive education” in mind, the Camiguin Delegate participated in the Regional

Press Conference 2018. Mary Jane S. Cordero, a staff of the Guinsiliban National High

School publication, The Green Leaf, and third placer for feature writing during the DSPC

2018, together with her coach Mrs. Glaisa D. Lano, joined the other delegates in their RSPC

2018 journey. It was held at Tangub City last December 3-7, 2018.

The Camiguin Delegate was graciously received by their host school, Isidro Tan

Elementary School, on the first day. On the second day, the Opening Ceremony was held at

the Sinanduloy Cultural Center with Pia Gutierrez, a successful ABS-CBN field reporter, as

the keynote speaker. The contest proper was held on the third day at North Western

Mindanao State College of Science and Technology. Our contestant, Ms. Mary Jane did her

best as she competed with other student journalist from the different divisions of Region

10 in the Feature Writing Category. The event ended the following day with a grand

awarding ceremony again, held at the Sinanduloy Cultural Center.

Our contestant and her coach did not bring home any medals but they certainly

brought memories and lessons worth more than gold. The hardships of the long travel

evaporated as they gaze upon the wonderful creations of the people of Tangub City. The

Christmas Symbols capital of the Philippines is truly a sight to behold. Moreover, the
lessons on journalism imparted by the other guest speakers and the keynote speaker, Ms.

Pia Gutierrez truly left its mark and it will surely help contestants and coaches alike to

become a better citizen and responsible journalist.
