MUNTINLUPA MUSEUM

Muntinlupa Museum was launched on March 1, 2019. It’s a five story museum
located by the shore of Laguna de Bai, Centennial avenue, Barangay Tunasan.
Museo ng Muntinlupa is the first city museum of its kind infusing history,
interactivity and communal spaces. Itis complete with interactive galleries for kids
and kids-at-heart; a research center and meeting spaces; and a state-of-the-art 200-
seater theater. It presents the history and culture of Muntinlupa from the pre-colonial era
to the present, it not only showcases heritage but provides areas for contemporary artists
and temporary exhibitions.

The City of Muntinlupa has risen from a small fishing village and agricultural land to
becoming a commercial business district and center of industry and trade.

On the banks of the longest shoreline embracing the Laguna de Bai, the Museo ng
Muntinlupa building was inspired by early traditional fishing contraptions used in the area.
According to the City Architect Beaudon Causapin “The museum was inspired by a Salakab,
a traditional fishing trap used by Muntinlupa fishermen in the shores of Laguna de Bai. We
follow green design—our ochre columns and wire netting absorb and deflect the heat
making the building cooler. We also cultivate our own native plants right here in the city,
and you will find this all over the museum and outdoor space.”
