The monthly fire hydrant inspection includes these steps:

a) Verify that access to the hydrant is clear and free of obstacles.


b) Verify that the hydrant and valves are not damaged.
c) Check that the valves open easily.
d) Check that the hydrant is not leaking.
e) Verify that thread protector caps are in place. Twist the caps to be sure they are not frozen and
are lubricated as necessary.
f) Check that the spanner wrench is on the center valve.
g) Note and follow up on repairs immediately.
h) Record the inspection on the Fire Hydrants Service Checklist
The annual fire hydrant service includes these steps:
a) Review all monthly inspection items.
b) Flush the hydrant out.
c) Perform a pressure test for static pressure and tightness.
d) Lubricate all moving parts.
e) Check packing.
f) Record the inspection on the Fire Hydrants Service Checklist
