PURPOSE : This procedure is used as work instruction for Starting/Stopping of Coal Mill & Coal Feeder.

SCOPE : This procedure is applicable to Coal Mill & Coal Feeder located in STPP 2X600 MW.

RESPONSIBILITY : Boiler operator , Desk Engineer, Unit Control Engineer & Shift In charge.

PROCEDURE:

LINE UP PROCEDURE:

1) No PTW is pending.
2) All manholes are closed.
3) Check sufficient coal in bunker.
4) Feeder inlet gate open.
5) Bunker outlet gate open.
6) Seal air valve to feeder & mill is open.
7) Open cold air gate
8) Open burner isolation gate at corner 1, 2, 3&4 and confirm 'open' limit is acting to DCS.
9) Ensure mill discharge valve should be open.
10) Open feeder outlet gate.
11) Feeder module is ON.
12) Feeder selection is in Remote (on feeder panel).
13) Clean out conveyor is in ON position.(on feeder panel).
14) Open Tramp iron spout valve.(KGV-1)
15) Lube oil level is normal.
16) LOP suction, discharge valves are open.
17) Line-up cooling water to lube oil coolers.( DMCW supply , return valves are open )
18) Lube oil pump- A&B modules are ON and in remote.
19) Breaker in service and in remote.
20) Motor protection relay is healthy.
21) PA fan in service.
22) Seal air fan in service.
23) All Instruments are lined up.
24) Mill reject system is ready.
25) Ensure Mill inert steam is lined-up.

COAL MILL START-UP:

1) Oil tank level normal(>350 mm)

2) Start lube oil pump (A or B). Ensure pressure, Temp & flow normal [Pr>2.4 Kg/cm2,flow>200lpm].

3) Starts Mill and observe any abnormal sound. Motor current and vibration is normal.
4) Open feeder outlet gate.
5) Open hot air gate.
6) Open HAD and CAD, Maintain air flow 80 t/h, Mill discharge temperature 66 to 850C.
7) Start feeder.
8) Load the mill by increasing feeder rate and hot/cold air damper to maintain mill outlet
temperature.

Coal Mill SHUT-DOWN:

1) Reduce the coal flow 20 t/h and air flow 80 t/h.

2) Reduce Mill outlet temperature up to <65o C.
3) Stop the feeder.
4) Run the mill for 5 minutes with cold air to avoid coal accumulation in mill.
5) Open Tramp iron spout valves (KGV1,KGV2,KGV3)
6) Stop the mill when current reached to No load current.
7) Close HAG and HAD.
8) Close CAD.
9) Stop Lube Oil system after brg. Temp.(<45 deg) Normal Mill shut-down

ISOLATION OF COAL MILL:

1) Isolate CAG.
2) Close feeder outlet gate.
3) Close bunker outlet gate.
4) Close feeder inlet gate
5) Close seal air valve to feeder & Mill.
6) Rack out the breaker and switch OFF DC supply.
7) Close Pulverize discharge damper.
8) Switch off LOP-A&B modules.
9) Switch off feeder module.
10) Switch off bunker outlet gate module.

ROUTINE CHECKS OF COAL MILL:

1) Oil flow (>200 lpm), Pressure (>2.4 kg/cm2) to Planetary gear box, and Filter DP (<0.8bar).
2) Mill outlet temp within limit (66 to 85 0C).
3) Mill bowl DP is normal.
4) All Bearings temp are normal.
5) All Bearings vibrations are normal.
6) Lube oil level is normal..

7) Pulverized fuel fineness at routine intervals.

8) Mill rejects quality and quantity.
9) Any abnormal sound.
10) Any air / oil / coal leakages.
