Condition
Various conditions on vehicle systems
connected to the vehicle CAN BUS.
May be caused by installing aftermarket
radios or Volkswagen radios designed for use
in 1997 m.y. and older vehicles, in m.y. 1999
and newer vehicles.

WARNING!
Installation of aftermarket radios or
Volkswagen radios not produced for use
in 1999 m.y. and newer vehicles:
¨ Affect various vehicle systems
connected to the CAN BUS.
¨ Cause severe damage to VAG 1551
and VAG 1552 scan tools!
DO NOT attempt to connect a scan tool to
any vehicle in which an incorrect radio
has been installed UNLESS the radio
wiring harness has been modified!

Service
-- Prior to connecting a VAG 1551/1552 scan
tool to a vehicle, check the vehicle radio.
If the radio is not the correct radio for the
vehicle:
-- Remove the radio and make sure that the
(DLC) K wire (location 3) -arrow- in the radio
wiring harness Black 8 Pin multi-connector
III -T8 has been removed from the connector
and taped back to the harness.

Aftermarket radio, DLC preparation
Prior to installing any aftermarket radio or any
Volkswagen radio produced for use in 1997
m.y. and older vehicles, the following radio
wiring harness modification must be
completed:

-- Locate Data Link Connector (DLC) K wire


(location 3) -arrow- in the radio wiring
harness Black 8 Pin multi-connector III -T8.
-- Remove wire and tape back to harness.
-- Proceed with radio installation.
