INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN IN SCIENCE 3

Grade Level Three (3)

Quarter Second Quarter

Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of parts and

functions of the sense organs and the human body.
Performance Standard The learners should be able to practice healthful habits in
taking care of the sense organs.
Learning Competency a. Describe the Parts and Functions of the Sense
Organs of the Human Body (S3LT-II-a-b-1)

I. Learning 1. Identify the parts of the eyes. (K)

Objective 2. Describe the parts and functions of the eyes. (U)
II. Subject Matter The Parts of the Eyes and Its Function
A. Concept Our eyes help us to see. It has different parts that work
together so we can see things around.
Parts of the Eyes

 Sclera – It is the outer layer of the eyeball. It is the

white part of the eye that you see at the front. It
protects and gives shape to the eyeball.
 Cornea – It is the transparent circular part that
covers the front of the eyeball. It allows light to
enter the eyes.
 Iris – It is the circular colored part of the eye that
controls the amount of light that enters the eye. Its
color differ from different people. Iris can be black,
brown, blue, or any other color.
 Pupil – It is a small, round opening at the center of
the iris that allows light to enter the eyes.
 Lens – It helps adjust the amount of light before
entering to the inner part of the eyes. It bends and
focuses light into the retina.
 Retina – is the innermost layer of the eyeball. It
receives the information of what you see and
sends the message to the brain.
 Optic Nerve – It transports the message of what
you see from the retina to the brain. The brain
interprets the message very quickly, making you
identify the object that you saw.
B. Materials Enlarged picture of the eyes, strips of paper, Laptop,TV.

D. Process Skills Identifying, Describing, Classifying, Inferring, observing
E. Values Integration Importance of the eyes

III. Learning Tasks

Recall
A. Engagement  Ask: Do you still remember our past lesson about
senses? What are the five senses?
(eyes, nose, tongue, skin and ears)
Motivation
I have here cut out pictures inside the envelope. I want
you to form this and identify what is it.
(picture below should be cut into 6 pieces)

Ask: What have you form?

Today you are going to learn about the eyes and its parts
but before that let know the meaning first of some words.

Nerve

( Observing, Identifying)

Today we are going to watch video. Watch

B. Exploration carefully because after the presentation you are
going to work by group and answer some
questions.

Motive question: Ask the following question after

the video
1. What is the video all about?
2. Who can name some parts of the eyes
that was mention in the video?
Let’s find out if you learned something from the
video we watch earlier.

Group 1 and 3
Note to the teacher: Teacher provides the picture
of the eye and its parts written in meta cards for
labelling.
Activity
Name My Parts
Procedure:
1. Look and label the parts of the eyes
using the given meta card found inside
the word bank.

Word Bank
Sclera Pupil Iris Retina

Cornea Lens Optic nerve

nerve n

Guide Questions:
1. What are the different parts of the eye?
2. What part of the eye can easily be
seen?
Note to the teacher: Refer answer key in the
concept above.
Group 2 and 4
Activity
What Am I For
Directions: Describe the parts of the eye by
matching its description found on the left.
Example:
Eyes Use to see things
around us

Answer:

It is the transparent circular part that

Sclera covers the front of the eyeball. It allows
light to enter the eyes.

It is the circular colored part of the eye

Cornea that controls the amount of light that
enters the eye.

Pupils It protects and gives shape to the

eyeball.

It is a small, round opening at the

Iris center of the iris that allows light to
enter the eyes

Optic It bends and focuses light into the

nerve retina.

Lens is the innermost layer of the

eyeball

Retina It transports the message of

what you see from the retina to
the brain
What are the things we should do in doing
group activity?

(Identifying, describing, observing)

Allow pupils to have the group presentation of
output. Check misconception of concepts after
C. Explanation the presentation.

Answer again the guide questions:

Guide Questions:
1. What are the different parts of the eye?
2. What part of the eye can easily be seen?
Additional question:
Are all the parts of the eye can easily be seen by
our eyes? What are these? What part of the eye
that allows light to enter the eyes? (pupil)
What part of the eye that controls the amount of
light that enters it? (iris) Which part of the eye
sends message to the brain and tells what you
see? (optic nerves)

Values integration: Is our eyes important?

Why is our eye important?
(Identifying)
 Based from our discussion and activity,
D. Elaboration what are the parts of the eye?
(cornea, pupils, iris, sclera, optic nerve,
retina and lens).
 How do you describe the cornea?( the
transparent circular part)?
 What is it function? (it covers the front of
the eyeball. It allows light to enter the
eyes).
 (do the same with the rest of the parts)
Note to the teacher: show this picture and
explicitly explain the parts that are visible like
the pupils, iris, sclera and cornea.

(Describing, observing)
A. Label the parts of the eye.
E. Evaluation cornea pupils iris sclera optic nerve
retina lens
B. Directions: Match column A with column
B. Write the letter before each number.

A. B.
_____1. Cornea a. Focuses light and
projects the
image on the retina
_____2. Pupil b. Sends messages
to the brain
_____3. Lens c. The transparent
covering of the
eye
_____4. Retina d. Where the image
that is seen is
focused
_____5. Optic nerve e. The opening
where light
enters

(Identifying)
