PRINTMAKING

Christmas cards, graduation announcements, invi-
tations and place cards.
Almost everyone makes a potato print at some
point in their childhood, but the truth is, print-
making isn't just for kids. You'll find in this chapter
that many different effects can be achieved with
prints, as there are a multitude of objects and ma-
terials that can be used. By expanding your hori-
zons to other types of vegetables, household items,
store-bought stamps and craft supplies, you can ar-
rive at some highly sophisticated designs.

Chapter Four
INKING AND
PAINTING
Compared to some of the other projects in
this book, painting may be a little messier
and a little more time-consuming. But one
thing it is not is more difficult. Each time I teach a
workshop, my beginning students fear the idea of
even picking up a paintbrush. The truth is, you
don't have to be Michelangelo to paint.
The world is full of designs waiting to be traced
and painted in new, exciting ways. Try looking
through clip art books, magazines and other printed
materials for traceable designs. Also, don't forget
that cookie cutters and store-bought stencils are
