Short Course on Geoinformatics

16 September to 8 November, 2019

The duration of the course is eight weeks and consists of three modules (i) GI Science
and Modelling (GIS) (ii) Earth Observation (EO) and (iii) Advanced GIS and a small case
study / project. The broad topics during the modules are given below

Module 1: GI Science and Modelling (GIS)

•GIS system and geographic phenomena and spatial data


•Spatial database,
•Data entry,
•Data retrieval,
•Spatial selection queries,
•Spatial analysis (classification of analytical GIS capabilities, measurement, retrieval
and classification, overlay functions, neighbourhood functions, network)
•GIS and maps

Module 2: Earth Observation (EO)

• EM Radiation
• Sensors and image characteristics,
• Image analysis for information extraction,
• Visualisation and radiometric operations,
• Spatial referencing and positioning,
• Geometric Operations

Advanced GIS topics/Project work (Week 7-8)


Overview of Spatial Data Quality, Data Mining, Citizen Science, 3D GIS and its
applications, FOSS 4G ,Project work
