I. Introduction
The atmosphere is a mixture of different gases, particles and aerosols collectively
known as air which envelops the Earth. It also provides various functions, not least the ability
to sustain life. Besides providing us with something to breathe; the atmosphere makes life on
our planet in several ways. The atmosphere protects us by filtering out the harmful and deadly
UV radiation from the Sun. It also protects us from meteors on collision course with Earth. The
most abundant gases here are Nitrogen which is 78% by volume and oxygen that is 21% by
volume and together they make up over 99% of the lower atmosphere. The remaining 1% are
made up of mixed gases like argon, neon, helium, krypton and xenon. As one moves upward
from Earth’s surface, the atmosphere grows thinner. Although the air is well-mixed throughout
the atmosphere, the atmosphere itself is not physically uniform. It has significant variations in
temperature and pressure with altitude that divides it to different layers. We live in the
troposphere, the lowest layer, where most clouds are found and almost all weather occurs.
Some jet aircrafts fly in the next higher layer, the stratosphere which contains the jet streams
and the ozone layer. Higher layers still make the mesosphere, thermosphere and the
exosphere

II. Hypothesis
Our Atmosphere is one of the most important spheres in our planet. It has a big part
in what we see earth as it is. It's the layer that protects living creatures from intense light and
harmful radiation from the sun. Imagine Earth without the atmosphere, There will be no life. We
depend on oxygen present in the atmosphere, without it there would be no chance of survival.
Just like us, there would also be no living thing and everything would perish. With no atmosphere,
there’s no ocean. Since it acts as a protector from the sun, without it bodies of water would
evaporate as result of extreme heat. The temperature of the Earth will increase up to 253
degrees Fahrenheit and freezes at -243 degrees Fahrenheit. Another importance of the
atmosphere is that it mostly burns up asteroids before hitting the ground, it literally acts like a
guardian. Without our barrier protecting us, it won’t be a happy ending since it would be silent
as space. It is because the sound waves are actually vibrations in the air without it there won’t
be sound. Our day and night cycle would be confusing, with no atmosphere the sky would turn
into black because there would be no particles in the air to be scattering the blue light of
sunshine.
