Wedding Dance
The story Wedding Dance by Amador Daguio was sorrowful. The story states the
situation of lovers who where very inlove with each other but has to let go in order for the man to
marry and have a child with another woman. Awitao and Lumnay have to free each other just
because of their tribe’s culture. The story may be sad and heartbreaking. Yet Awiyao and Lumnay’s
great love for each other will remain despite the boundary between them.
Awiyao and Lumnay have been married for seven years. Awiyao has to go and marry
another woman named Madulimay because Lumnay can’t give him a child. Based on the story if a
man does not have a son he is considered to be inferior to others in their community. People in their
community will consider Awiyao a true man if he has a child. Awiyao do really love Lumnay but the
necessity of Awiyao to have a son has been the boundary.
“Love is not a feeling of happiness. Love is a willingness to sacrifice”. The memories and
the things they bult together has been put away because of someone’s necessity. On reading the part
where Lumnay told Awiyao that she don’t want any other man and Awiyao replied that he don’t
want any other woman either left me emotional and heartbroken. Their separation for me was
unrightful because for me everyone has a right to love anyone. Even if Awiyao has to marry
Madulimay, Lumnay will always be the best wife for him.
The story taught me a lot about love and sacrifice. A love that has to be surrendered
because of culture. Despite how upsetting it is for the both of them. They have to free each other
because of culture and because Lumnay wants Awiyao to have a child and be happy. “If you really
love a person, you must let them be happy”. They may be separated physically but I know their
hearts will forever be as one.
