a) Calcium Hydroxide Solution U.S.P.


 Synonym: Lime Water
 Pharmacologic Uses:
o Antibaterial - Anything that destroys bacteria or suppresses their growth or their
ability to reproduce.
o Antifungal - kills fungi or inhibits their growth.
o Anti-endotoxin agent - include those which interrupt the synthesis of endotoxin,
bind and neutralise its activity, prevent endotoxin interactions with host
effector cells and interfere with endotoxinmediated signal transduction
pathways.
b) Strong Iodine Solution U.S.P.
 Synonym: Potassium Iodide
 Pharmacologic Uses:
o Antithyroid Agent – these agents work by making it harder for the body to use
iodine to make thyroid hormone. They do not block the effects of thyroid
hormone that was made by the body before their use was begun.
o Expectorant – works by thinning and loosening mucus in the airways, clearing
congestion, and making breathing easier.
c) Anticoagulant Sodium Citrate Solution U.S.P.
 Synonym: Trisodium Citrate dihydrate
 Pharmacologic Uses:
o Anticoagulant – An agent that is used to prevent the formation of blood clots
