THE ROLES OF THE YOUTH IN SHAPING

COMPETITIVE INDONESIA IN THE FUTURE

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. Honorable the adjudicators, honorable my teacher and all of the
participants in this room. First of all, I would like to thank God for giving this opportunity thus I can
speak in front of you all today. Before I deliver my speech today I would like to give you one quote for
our young generation. Jose Rizal said, “the youth is the hope for our future”. (mebbe you can add a
little explanation, prob one or two sentences about this quote you wrote. Just a simple one).
Ladies and Gentlemen, today's technology have developed rapidly and social media is one of our
technological developments which support the growth of society. At present, social media and the
young generation become two things which cannot be separated.
As we know, we can start a business through social media, learn new knowledge from social media,
develop our character through social media even deals with new people through social media. With our
position as the younger generation, what we do in social media will affect the progress of our country,
Indonesia. I believe that a country can never be developed without the support of the skills of the young
generation and its technological acceleration.
Ladies and gentlemen, however, not all regions in our country have internet access. For example, In
Central Kalimantan, which is my origin place, many young generations have not been able to access
technological advances. Why? This is due to a lack of ability in developing technological advancements.
They absolutely know what social media is but they have not been able to master the technology. This
also proves that Indonesia's 74 years of development after independence still needs to be developed
more and more. From kompasiana.co if Indonesia wants to modernize, what must modernize first is
science, technology, and the ability alongside with the mindset of the young generation. So as the young
generation what we can do to solve this problem? The things we can do are first, be critical of the
situation so that we are able to find a solution. Second, change our mindset to be positive so that we are
able to give a positive influence on the people around us. Third, participate to innovate in advancing
Indonesian society. Last, develop our skills so that we are able to teach others with the same abilities.
Then what can improve the skills of our young generation? The answer is our current education system,
character education and the development of young people's ability to use technology. Character
education works to improve the character of Indonesia young generation to be able to take responsibility
in developing the potential of people or citizens towards a nation of character. So we can create a better
young generation with the best skills for Indonesia in the future.
So, what is the most important skills that our young generation needs these days? The answer is
language. We have known, English is the language used by almost all nations in the world. With the
current era of globalization, free trade is definitely happening. So if we are not supposed to master the
communication skill then how do we communicate with foreigner companies without using the
universal language in the world? Using body language? Really? No, we use our English skills to
communicate with them. As the young generation, we must know what we are facing right now is the
industrial revolution 4.0. So what is the industrial revolution 4.0? The industrial revolution 4.0 is a trend
in the industrial world that combines automation technology with cyber technology.
Ladies and gentlemen, for examples of the industrial revolution 4.0 are China and Japan. They are the
countries with the best human resources in Asia but they use machines more often than human resources
and that's happening right now. Many Asian countries are better at using robots than human resources.
Then what should we do to avoid losing to the machine? Develop our abilities in both technological
and language mastery. So that we are able to compete with other countries. Because when we are able
to master the development of technology and foreign language skills, there will be many opportunities
for us in the future.
There are many best careers in the future for our young generation that are related to technologies and
language. We have solar energy technicians, wind energy technicians, personal care assistants,
statisticians, and medical assistants. So, all of this career are related to technologies and abilities.
So what do Indonesian teenagers need to do to deal with this? First, change our mindset to think further
to develop our personal abilities in order to build the nation. For example, change our character to
become a better character. Second, strengthen our ideology. So that we not only pursue achievements
but also improve our identity. Third, increase our horizons. The more insights we have, the more things
we can teach those who have not mastered the technology.
Then, in order to commemorate the independence day of Indonesia, we should know what we can do
for our society and our nation. First, the evolution of social media. This means we must be able to
develop social media progress so that we are able to think critically in solving existing problems
Secondly, the ability to communicate. This is important because in the future globalization will force
us to make many agreements with foreign countries. So, we must be able to communicate to attract
more investors to Indonesia. Third, mastery of technology. This must be owned by every young
generation so that we are able to compete with other countries' human resources and also the technology
itself.
My conclusion from this speech is if we want to make Indonesia able to compete in the future with
other countries or the technology itself, we must change our mindset to be more positive and critical.
Able to master technology and its development, including having the ability to speak foreign languages.
This is not just to compete with other countries but so that we are able to develop Indonesia from within
the country. Reach each region to be able to master technology and foreign languages and to complete
the task of developing the country from all corners of the country.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, I think this the end of my speech today. I want to close this speech with
one more quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States “we cannot always
build the future for our youth but we can build our youth for future. In this occasion also, I would like
to say Happy 74th independence day for Indonesia. As the young generation now let’s take one step
forward for our Indonesia. Let’s thrill Indonesia for the world because we are the youth and the
successor of our nation.
For the young generation of Indonesia: Be Professional, Be Competent & Be Genius
So, that is all of my speech today. Thank you for your attention, Ladies and gentlemen. Good morning
and have a good day.
