1. 39 persons can repair a road in 12 days, working 5 hours a day. In how many days will
30 persons, working 6 hours a day, complete the work?
A. 13 days
C. 16 days
D. 20 days
E. None of these
Answer : A. 13 days
Explanation:
Let the required number of days be x.
⇒ Less persons, More days ( ∴ Indirect Proportion )
⇒ More working hours per day, Less days ( ∴ Indirect Proportion )
Persons = 30 : 39 :: 12 : x
Working hours/day = 6 : 5 :: 12 : x
⇒ ( 30 * 6 * x ) = ( 39 * 5 * 12 )
x = ( 39 * 5 * 12 ) / ( 30 * 6 )
x = 13 days
∴ 13 days is required to complete the work.

2. Mr. Thomas invested an amount of Rs. 13,900 divided in two different schemes A and
B at the simple interest rate of 14% p.a. and 11% p.a. respectively. If the total amount of
simple interest earned in 2 years be Rs. 3508, what was the amount invested in Scheme
B?
A. Rs. 6400
B. Rs. 6500
C. Rs. 7200
D. Rs. 7500
E. None of these
Answer : A. Rs. 6400
Explanation :
Let the sum invested in Scheme A be Rs. x and that in Scheme B be Rs. (13900 - x).

1
Then,(x *14 * 2/100)+ ((13900 - x) * 11 *2/100) = 3508
⇒28x - 22x = 350800 - (13900 x 22)
⇒6x = 45000
⇒x = 7500.
So, sum invested in Scheme B = Rs. (13900 - 7500) = Rs. 6400.

3. A table is bought for Rs. 400 and sold at Rs. 500 find gain percentage?
A. 30 %
B. 29 %
C. 20 %
D. 25 %

Answer : D. 25 %
Explanation:
Formula = [ ( Selling price - Cost price ) / ( Cost price ) ] * 100
= [ ( 500 - 400 ) / 400 ) ] * 100
= ( 100 / 400 ) * 100
= ( 1 / 4 ) * 100 ]
= 100 / 4
= 25 %
∴ Gain percentage is 25 %

15. A train 125 m long passes a man, running at 5 km/hr in the same direction in which
the train is going, in 10 seconds. The speed of the train is:
A. 45 km/hr

7
B. 50 km/hr
C. 54 km/hr
D. 55 km/hr
E. None of these
Answer : B. 50 km/hr
Explanation :
Speed of the train relative to man = (125/100) m/sec
= (25/2) m/sec.
= (25/2 * 18/5)km/hr
= 45 km/hr.
Let the speed of the train be x km/hr.
Then, relative speed = (x - 5) km/hr.
∴x - 5 = 45 ⇒ x = 50 km/hr.

16. Two trains, each 100 m long, moving in opposite directions, cross each other in 8
seconds. If one is moving twice as fast the other, then the speed of the faster train is:
A. 30 km/hr
B. 45 km/hr
C. 60 km/hr
D. 75 km/hr
E. None of these
Answer : C. 60 km/hr
Explanation :
Let the speed of the slower train be x m/sec.
Then, speed of the faster train = 2x m/sec.
Relative speed = (x + 2x) m/sec = 3x m/sec.
∴(100 + 100/8) = 3x
⇒24x = 200
⇒x = 25/3.
So, speed of the faster train = 50/3m/sec
= (50/3 * 18/5) km/hr

8
= 60 km/hr.
