CHAPTER 3
This chapter presents the research method and its design. This chapter
also tackles the experimental instruments and procedure, and the statistical
treatment of the data. Overall, the process of the analyzation and observation of

The procedure that all the wooden specimens will undergo is burning. The
time in which these specimens will be burned completely, until the wood is
reduced into a black, crumbly, charred state. Under the term conditions stated
above are as follows: the coatings applied, the ratio of the pulverized glass to be
mixed with the paint. The same type of wood would be used as a specimen.

Research Instruments/Materials:
1. Fine Pulverized Glass – Glass from gin bottles will be used, most specifically

g/cm³ and the temperature borosilicate glass can withstand before fracturing is
about 165°C The pulverized glass must pass the No. 200 sieve.

Gin bottles will be collected from any possible place, from junk shops to
local homes. These gin bottles will be pulverized repeatedly by any means
possible and will be sieved using the no. 40, no. 80, no. 100 and no. 200 sieve

to the total volume of the mixture would be as follows, 20%, 30%, and 40%.
The samples will first be applied with primer to provide more adhesion
between the paint and the wood. The wooden samples will then be coated by the
mixture with the use of a paint brush. Coatings will be applied with a 5-hour
interval after the application of one coat. The drying time after the final coat will
be 5 hours as well. The researchers will apply 2 coats for each specimen.
The furnace will be made with the use of unused concrete cylinders and
hollow blocks as the walls. Pieces of aluminum will be placed at the sides and
the bottom to prevent the occurrence of fire accident. Burning charcoal will be
placed inside the furnace and will be covered with the use of hollow blocks or a
makeshift steel barrier. It must be taken into notice that protective gloves and

Gasoline will be poured on the charcoal and will serve as the main starter
of fire. A match stick will be used to create a spark. The specimens of specific
coatings and ratios of pulverized glass will each be placed in the furnace and will
be observed every hour taking out all specimens which showed signs of damage
with each observation. A wood sample without any coatings will also be tested as
