Axie Infinity Whitepaper
Axies come in many forms: they can resemble cats, birds, and fish, and
some might even have Dragon genes hiding in their DNA. Players will
interact and power-up their Axies through minigames, quests, contests, and
special in-game events.

1.1 Motivation
Axie Infinity was built with a handful of core principles and features in mind:
Unique Creatures: The trait system (the “DNA” of Axies) allow for incredible
diversity—there is virtually an unlimited number of possible Axies. This
makes Axies very collectible.
Core Gameplay (Battles): Players will be able to create teams of Axies and
compete in competitive battles and tournaments. In addition, sponsored
events will rewards winners of different tournaments with special prizes.
An Open and Secure Marketplace: Within our Marketplace, players can buy
and sell Axies quickly and smoothly via the blockchain.
Axies start as Eggs, which later hatch into Larvae. After a bit of care, Larvae
evolve into Petite Axies and, finally, Adult Axies.
Egg
Eggs can be acquired from the Axie Laboratory
or from sellers in the Marketplace.
Larvae
Larvae are newly hatched Axies that resemble
translucent tadpoles. After a bit of time and care,
Larvae are ready to become Petite Axies.
Petite Axie
Petite Axies resemble normal Axies but they lack
of advanced body parts and are smaller in size.
Petite Axies eventually grow into adult Axies, and
will possibly do so more quickly if they are raised
well.
Adult Axie
Adult Axies are fully formed. They can breed,
battle, and participate in minigames.
Axies have a wide variety of body parts that makes each Axie special. The
inspiration for Axies was the Greek mythological creature, the Chimera,
which possesses features from lions, goats, and serpents. We wanted Axies
to capture a mythical spirit as well, so we gave them interesting parts from a
variety of creatures.
Axies have a total of 8 different body parts and traits: eyes, mouth, ears,
horns, back, tail, body pattern (or shape), and body color. Some Axies are
born with missing parts. These Axies are currently under research.
Puff
Puff is the first Axie ever created. He’s
rumored to be the result of a failed
experiment to create a Dragon. The horns
and reptilian features are promising, but the
potato-shaped body seems off.
Kotaro
Kotaro is rumored to have been born in a
faraway ninja village. With three deadly
Katana blades protruding from his body, this
Axie has no need for a tail.
Ginger
Ginger is an Aquatic Axie that uses
her powerful fin and gills to catch
her prey. Ginger also has her own
pet fish that’s believed to have
special abilities in battle.
Axies are classified into different classes. In addition, each of their body
parts also belongs to a class.
Some Axie body parts are common while others have only been heard of in
legends and fairytales. There are 4 levels of rarity for Axie body parts:
Common, Rare, Ultra Rare, and Legendary.
In battle, Axies use their moves in a pre-set order. Certain moves are best
utilized at different times in a fight. For example, it wouldn’t be wise to use a
healing move as your first turn (since none of your Axies have incurred
damage yet). Create a wise strategy and your Axie team will be unstoppable.
3.1 Roadmap
February 16, 2018 – April 16, 2018: The pre-sale event where players can
adopt adult “origin” Axies. These Axies have a chance to obtain “Mystic”
parts that will never be released again.
May 2018: The release of breeding features and a marketplace. New classes
and traits will be released periodically.
Update 1: Players will be able to raise their Axies and play at least one
minigame.
Trung Nguyen

Trung is a tech entrepreneur and CTO of Lozi, a VC-backed startup in Vietnam. Trung
enjoys product design and developing difficult projects. He’s an avid gamer, having
played real-time strategy (RTS) and Massive Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games online
for 15 years. Trung is known for his famous office naps, caused by perpetual sleep debt
from previous feature releases.
Tu Doan
Art Director / Game Designer
Tu, or Masamune as he known to the team, has been designing games since he was a
child. He started with card games and graduated to making Video games at the age of
13. He’s a competitive Pokemon player and we’ve entrusted a lot of the battle
mechanics and game design to him. Tu has a passion for magical creatures and
doodling that has been unleashed through Axie Infinity. He was forced to become a Co-
Founder of Axie Infinity after spending his life savings on collectible figurines.
Aleksander Larsen

With a background in financial markets and military strategy, Jeff helps Axie Infinity
pursue strategic growth initiatives including partnerships, user acquisition, and
community engagement. Jeff grew up chasing rare insects and digging for fossils so he
is a collector at heart. He was introduced to the blockchain gaming space through
CryptoKitties, where he bred some of the rarest cats ever, including the first “Dogcat”.
He was so overpowered at breeding in CryptoKitties that he voluntarily stepped away
from the community for the long term health of the game.
