1. Define and explain with example rigid body mechanics.

2. Explain with example Varignon’s Theorem

3. State and explain with example principle of transmissibility of force.

4. State and explain Lami’s theorem

5. State and explain Law of polygon of forces

6. A crate of mass 80 kg is held in the position shown in fig.1. Determine

a) The moment produced by the weight W of the crate about E.
b) The smallest force applied at B that creates a moment of equal magnitude and opposite sense
about E.

7. Two Parallel 40-N forces are applied to a lever as shown in fig.2. Determine the moment formed by
the two forces about point A.

Figure. 1 Figure. 2

8. The Tension in the cable attached to the end C of an adjustable boom ABC shown in fig.3 is 2.24 kN
Replace the force exerted by the cable at C with an equivalent force-couple system (a) at A, (b) at B.

9. A dirigible is tethered by a cable attached to its cabin at B as shown in fig.4. If the tension in the cable
is 1040 N, replace the force exerted by the cable at B with an equivalent system formed by two parallel
forces applied at A and C.

10. A worker tries to move a rock by applying a 360 N force to a steel bar as shown in fig.5. If two workers
attempt to move the same rock by applying a force at A and a parallel force at C, determine these two
forces so that they will be equivalent to the single 360 N force shown in the figure.
