1. Simplify the following :

a) [(−68) + 8] ÷ ⌊(−4) + (−26)⌋

b) (−8) × 632 × (−125)

2. Subtract the sum of -524 and 678 from -98.

3. Start with the integer (-8). Add (-12) to it, subtract 10 from the result, divide the result by 3 and
multiply the answer by (-2). What do you get?

4. Verify the following: (−24) ÷ [(−8) + 6] ≠ [(−24) ÷ (−8)] + [(−24) ÷ 6]

5. An elevator descends into a mine shaft at the rate of 6m/min. If the descent starts from 10m above
the ground level, how long will it take to reach -350m?

6. In a competitive examination, 6marks are awarded for every correct answer and 3 marks are
deducted for every wrong answer and Zero marks for not answering the questions. There are 12
questions for each candidate to answer.
a) Suma gets 7 correct answers and 5 wrong answers. Find his score
 b) Mahi gets 4 correct answers and the remaining wrong .What is his score?

7. A shopkeeper earns a profit of Re 1 by selling one pen and earns a loss of 30 paise on sale of one
pencil. In a particular month, he incurs a loss of Rs 5. In that month, he sold 40 pens. How many
pencils did he sell in that period?

8. Solve the following by using distributive property:

a) 40 × (−23) + 40 × (−17)

b) 876 × 99 − (−876)

c) (−35) × 30 − (−35) × 20.

9. A railway engine starts shunting wagons by first going 1000m north of railway station. It reverses
and travels 1250m south and then it again moves 600m north. Finally moving 800m south it comes
to rest. How far is the engine from the station and in which direction?

10. The product of two integers is 270. One of the integer is (-18). Find the other integer.
