Philippines: an Emerging Economy?

Challenges and Opportunities in the OSH Profession

Characteristics of Emerging Economies

• Today emerging economies have caught the attention of the

developed world not only for the vast potential the markets here
hold for investment but also for the huge mass of low cost labor.
• There is a huge flow of Foreign Direct Investment in emerging
economies leading to the inception of huge infrastructure
projects. Also many multinationals are setting up a manufacturing

Checklist for OSH Leadership
 Commitment to the OSH initiative has to start
from the top. Till the top management does
not invest time and resources to OSH, no OSH
initiative can be successful.
 The top management has to be convinced of
the economic benefits of OSH initiatives and
convert their ‘so-so” attitude to that of a “
can do”.
 The management needs to state its
