Who is Gen Bajwa?

General Bajwa, Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military), was commissioned in 16 Baloch Regiment on

October 24, 1980. He is a graduate of the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College,
Toronto; Naval Post Graduate University, Monterey, California, USA; and National Defence
University, Islamabad.

He has been an instructor at the School of Infantry and Tactics, Quetta; Command and Staff
College, Quetta; and NDU. He has also served as the brigade major of an infantry brigade
and Chief of Staff of Rawalpindi Corps.

He has commanded 16 Baloch Regiment, an infantry brigade, and infantry division in

Northern Areas Commander FCNA. He has also commanded the Pakistan contingent in
Congo.

Bajwa is an avid reader and has keen interest in the history of Europe.

He enjoys cricket and was himself a good sportsman who used to play cricket as a
wicket-keeper.

He is reported to be a military man with no interest in politics and the one who remains
well-connected with the junior officers and troops, and does not seek attention and protocol.

( May 2009) Major-General Bajwa took command of

Major-General the Force Command Northern Areas (FCNA) as its GOC,
stationed in Gilgit-Baltistan.

(14 August 2013), he was promoted to three-star rank and

Lieutenant-General posted as field commander of the X Corps , stationed in
Rawalpindi.

(28 November 2016), Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

General eventually promoted him to four star rank and was
announced as the Chief of Army Staff.
