Italy has some famous cities. One of them is Rome.

It is a very
historical city. If you visit Rome, you will have plenty of chances to see all
sorts of great sights. Rome can be traced through its mythology when it
was founded on . It was said that twins of Romulus and Remus has
founded the city in 753 BC, on the date of April 21st. This corresponds
fairly closely to archeological evidence, which shows farming
communities in the area. As the Catholic Church grew, Rome became
more and more important in both religion and politics.
Rome was one of the central leading cities in the Renaissance. It is
seen when visitors walk through the streets and see the various
buildings. The style was profoundly affected by the work of the artists of
the time. Visitors can see evidence of all sorts of artistic influences, such
as the Baroque palaces, the huge squares and obelisks, and other
structures throughout the city.
Rome is well known for its architecture. The colosseum is one
sample of famous Roman structures. It was once a grand, ground-
breaking amphitheatre, and was at the forefront of architectural
advancements in 70 AD. Since then it has fallen apart slightly, but it still
an astounding and imposing structure. Modern Rome is a very busy place
to go. It is considered a cultural center for the region, and offers all the
arts in various forms. It has a thriving music scene, with several major
concert halls. Rome puts out a lot of movies every year, more so than
any other region of Italy. It is home to Cinecittà studios, the biggest
facility in Europe.

Descriptive Text – Easter Island
Do you know Easter Island? Well, Easter Island is in the South
Pacific, 3,700 kilometers from the coast of Chile. On the island, there are
600 large statues. We don’t know who built them but they were probably
constructed between 1150 and 1500. We don’t really know why they are
there, The Easter Island.
Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl, believed that they were built
by people from South America. To prove this, he made a simple raft and
sailed there, all the way from Peru.
Archaeologists think that the statues represent dead tribal leaders.
We don’t know why the statues left alone on the island. Perhaps they
were killed by disease or war. Perhaps the builders used all the natural
resources on the island. There are many unanswered questions about
Easter Island.

Definition Text – Family

“Families are the people for whom it matters if you have a cold, are
feuding with your mate or training a new puppy. Family members use
magnets to fasten newspaper clippings about your bowling team on the
refrigerator door. They save your drawings and homemade pottery. They
like to hear stories about when you were young. They’ll help you can
tomatoes or change the oil in your car. They’re the people who will come
visit you in the hospital, will talk to you when you call with ‘a dark night
of the soul’ and will loan you money to pay the rent if you lose your job.
Whether or not, they are biologically related to each other, the people
who do these things are family.”
Definition Text – An Argument Against Happiness

“Why is it that bad people can be happy? The reason is that

happiness as defined by our culture has become just a synonym for
pleasure, and anyone can feel pleasure. A good meal, a winning team, a
fabulous vacation can make even the biggest criminal feel just as happy
as the most noble hero. The problem is the linkage between happiness
and pleasure. Feeling good has no natural connection to doing good. But
it does in the teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism,
Christianity and Islam, as well as in the good and decent lives of those
who do not find their life’s guidance from ancient-wisdom traditions. For
all these people, happiness is linked to goodness, not pleasure.”
Narrative text – The Three Feather Story

Once upon time There was a king who had three sons. The two son
were clever. The third son did not speak much so he was called
Simpleton. When the king had become old, he did not know which son
should become the king.
Then he got a bright idea and said; “Go forth, who brings me the
most beautiful carpet will be king after me”. He blew three feathers in
the air, and said: “You should go as they fly”. One feather flew to the
east, the scond to the west, but the third flew straight up and did not fly
far.
So one brother went to the right, and the other to the left.
Simpleton was sad because his feather did not fly far. Then all at once he
saw a trap-door close to the feather. He found some steps, and went
down the door. Then he came to another door, knocked at it. The door
opened, and he saw a fat toad sitting. She asked what he wanted. He
answered; “I should get the prettiest and finest carpet in the world”.
Then she called a young toad; “Bring me the great box!”
The young toad brought the box. The fat toad opened it, and gave
simpleton a carpet out of it. The carpet was so beautiful. So Simpleton
thanked her, and brought it to the kingdom. Meanwhile his brothers just
got some coarse handkerchiefs from a shepherds’ wives whom they had
met. When the king saw Simpleton’s carpet he was very astonished and
said; ” Well, the kingdom belongs to the Simpleton”. But his two brothers
argued that it was impossible that simpleton should be king, They asked
the king to make a new agreement.
Then the father said; “Who brings me the most beautiful ring will
inherit the kingdom”. He blew three feathers, which they were to follow.
Those of the two eldest again went east and west, and simpleton’s
feather flew straight up, and fell down near the trap-door. Again the fat
toad gave him a ring sparkled with jewels. Meanwhile his two brohter
just got old carriage-rings. However they did not cease from tormenting
the king until he made a third condition.
So the king declared; Who brings the most beautiful womanhome
will be the king”. He again blew the three feathers into the air. Then
Simpleton went down to the fat toad, and said; “I am to take home the
most beautiful woman”. The she gave him a yellow turnip which had
been hollowed out. Mournfully Simpleton said; “What am I to do with
it?”. The toad answered; “Just put one of my little toads into it!”. Then
Simpleton seized one little toad and put her into the yellow coach.
Surprisingly the little toad turned into a beautiful maiden. So Simpleton
took her to the king. On the other hand, his brother brought peasant
women to the kingdom.
When the king saw the women he said; “After my death the
kingdom belongs to my youngest son”. But the two eldest brothers kept
arguing that whose wife could leap through a ring which hung in the
center of the hall would be the king. The king agreed. Then the two
peasant women jumped through the ring but they fell which made their
arms and legs broke. On the other hand, the pretty maiden sprang
through the ring as lightly as a deer which made the two peasants
ceased. So Simpleton received the crown and ruled wisely the kingdom.
Narrative Text – The Smartest Parrot

Once upon time, a man had a wonderful parrot. There was no other
parrot like it. The parrot could say every word, except one word. The
parrot would not say the name of the place where it was born. The name
of the place was Catano.
The man felt excited having the smartest parrot but he could not
understand why the parrot would not say Catano. The man tried to teach
the bird to say Catano however the bird kept not saying the word.
At the first, the man was very nice to the bird but then he got very
angry. “You stupid bird!” pointed the man to the parrot. “Why can’t you
say the word? Say Catano! Or I will kill you” the man said angrily.
Although he tried hard to teach, the parrot would not say it. Then the
man got so angry and shouted to the bird over and over; “Say Catano or
I’ll kill you”. The bird kept not to say the word of Catano.
One day, after he had been trying so many times to make the bird
say Catano, the man really got very angry. He could not bear it. He picked
the parrot and threw it into the chicken house. There were four old
chickens for next dinner “You are as stupid as the chickens. Just stay with
them” Said the man angrily. Then he continued to humble; “You know, I
will cut the chicken for my meal. Next it will be your turn, I will eat you
too, stupid parrot”. After that he left the chicken house.
The next day, the man came back to the chicken house. He opened
the door and was very surprised. He could not believe what he saw at
the chicken house. There were three death chickens on the floor. At the
moment, the parrot was standing proudly and screaming at the last old
chicken; “Say Catano or I’ll hit you”.
Cause and Effect

Poverty is an exceptionally complicated social phenomenon and

trying to discover its causes is equally complicated. The most simplistic
explanation persists—that the poor cause their own poverty—based on
the idea that the “American Dream”, or the ability to make anything of
one’s self despite even the most precarious circumstances, is equally real
and possible for every resident.
Of this group of theorists, there are subsets that feel that the
disconnect between the individuals and their ability to thrive has to do
with a defeatist attitude (feeling nothing can be done to improve their
economic situation), a lack of motivation or a blatant disregard for the
future.
Like all stereotypes, blaming the poor for their own poverty does
not apply in all cases. Many impoverished Americans are able and willing
to work but are kept below the poverty line with unreasonable wages
while their lack of education keeps them from being promoted above
their current earning bracket. Additionally, some would rather receive a
welfare check than work in a job where conditions are unfair or
demeaning.
One of the more balanced theories on the causes of poverty is that
it has to do with suburbanization. The movement of residents from
urban centers to the suburbs has dire consequences for the number of
jobs that remain in the urban center, even if those suburbanites return
there daily to go to work.
The Effects of Poverty
Poverty has serious effects for all of the society but they are felt
most profoundly by children who are raised amongst it. Not only does
poverty have an effect on a child’s health—low birth weights, mental and
physical disabilities from lack of nutrition in the womb, etc.—but on their
ability to thrive independently in the world.
The children of poverty are more likely to miss school and
eventually drop out altogether to start work or due to lack of interest.
They also carry much more stress than their middle-class peers. That
stress may be compacted with the inclusion of other family stresses
prevalent in poverty-stricken families. These can include violence, drug
and alcohol abuse, depression, job loss, eviction, the incarceration of one
or more of the guardians, and even witnessing death.
Total homelessness—extreme poverty—often leads to death due
to improper nutrition, lack of immunization or medicine, or
complications with addiction. Homeless women, in particular, are at a
high risk of miscarriages and infant mortality when homelessness keeps
them from accessing adequate prenatal care.
Cause And Effect
For the causes of air pollution to be well articulated, it is important
to delve into the types of air pollutants. Air pollutants can be caused by
secondary and primary sources. If a process directly results to pollution,
then this forms the primary source. For instance, factories emit sulfur
dioxide which is a primary source of air pollution. Reactions and
interactions between primary sources form the secondary pollutant. For
instance, the intermingling of primary pollutants forms smog which is a
secondary pollutant.

Main Causes of Air Pollution

Burning of fossil fuels
The main cause of air pollution is burning of coal, gasoline,
petroleum, and other fossil fuels. These fuels are the main cause of acid
rain, smog, greenhouse gas emissions, and presence of heavy metals in
the air.
Fossil fuels form an important part of the society; they are used in
transportation, heating, manufacturing, and even in electricity
generation. This makes them an important part of the society making it
difficult (but not uncontrollable) to curtail. In modern society, the use of
fossil fuels can be made so that its burning becomes efficient, but this
comes with a monetary cost. It is important to note that unless
alternative cleaner option is found, we will have the future facing the
same problems of pollution.
Increased use of motor vehicles, and emission of nitrogen
Vehicles use fuel which sometimes is not completely burnt in the
engine; therefore, they release VOCs (Volatile Organic Chemicals) into
the air. VOCs and nitrogen are a common source of air pollution.

Decomposition of garbage and solid wastes

Disposal sites containing biodegradable substances are known to
emit methane gas into the atmosphere. Methane gas is known to be a
harmful gas, it is highly flammable and a potential disaster to the ozone
layer. Garbage and other household products release VOCs to the air.

Natural causes
Air pollution can come from natural sources such as dust, wildfires,
and volcanic activity. Wildfire is known to emit VOCs and particulates
into the atmosphere. Volcanic eruptions spew sulfur dioxide and volcanic
ash into the atmosphere. Volcanic ash is usually dumped in the upper
atmosphere, and as a result, global temperatures are lowered. However,
pollution resulting from natural causes remains in the atmosphere for a
short period and does not result in a permanent change as it might be
the case with human activity-based pollution.

Effects of Air Pollution

Air pollution consequences
1. Respiratory infections
Air pollution is the leading cause of respiratory diseases. Exposure
to air pollutants can cause lung cancer and even asthma. Asthma can
lead to death if not well treated, as it might cause difficulty in breathing.
A prolonged exposure of pollutants can cause lung cancer.
2. Global warming
The rise in sea level, rising temperature in the world, and the
melting of ice glaciers are the evidence for the global warming. Global
warming is a direct effect of air pollution in the world. The only way to
curb this increasingly destructive menace is to reduce air pollution.
3. Depletion of ozone layer
With the greenhouse effect which is the major contributor of the
release of chlorofluorocarbon into the atmosphere has led to the
depletion of ozone layer. This layer is important in shielding the earth
from the destructive ultraviolet (UV) radiations.
4. Formation of acid rain
Emission of harmful gasses such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen into
the atmosphere lead to the formation of acid rain. It is quite common for
rain water to have sulfuric acid due to rampant cases of air pollution in
the modern society. Acid rain is a major threat to the aquatic life as well
as human beings.
There are carcinogenic substances in the acid rain, and it has
devastating effects to even metal which can be observed by the extent
of corrosion that often results.
5. Eutrophication
Air pollutants such as nitrogen oxide speed up the growth of algae
on the water surface. This growth competes with aquatic life for oxygen,
therefore, posing a major threat to fishing. The only way to reduce the
devastating effects of air pollution will be to come up with effective ways
of reducing air pollution.
Earth’s atmosphere has a self-regulating mechanism that ensures
sequestration of carbon among other pollutants. The mechanism works
to ensure that the ecosystem is not affected by the changes occurring in
the atmosphere. However, if people continue to add more pollutants
than the earth is able to remove, then the response will be increased
smog, acid rain, global warming and a number of health problems.

The Philippine Literature has known and appreciates throughout

the world. A Philippine literature is the body of works, both oral and
written, that Filipinos whether native or naturalize or foreign born have
created about the experience of people living in or revolting the
Philippine society.
The Philippine Literature, it was divided into two groups which are:
fiction and non-fiction. In fiction it includes novels, short stories, and
poetry. A fiction literature describes an imaginary events or people. The
examples of novels are: Noli Me Tangere by Jose P. Rizal, Cave and
Shadows by Nick Joaquin, Dogeaters by Jessica Hagedorn. In short stories
examples are: At War’s End by Ronie V. Diaz, All Over the World by
Vicente Rivera Jr. and Dead Stars by Paz Marquez Benitez.

The examples of poetry are: Last Love J.D. Mariposa, Last Prince in the
Puzzle of My Life by Vic Yambao, and Tracing You Kristina Aquino.
A non-fiction literature is a prose writing based on real life situation
or events. The classifications of non-fiction literature are: autobiography,
essay and history. The examples of autobiography are: The Biography of
Nick Joaquin, The Biography of Jose P. Rizal, The Biography of Andress
Bonifacio. For the Histories examples are: History of Churches, History of
the Philippines and The History of Monuments. The examples of essay
are: Issue about Drug Addiction, arguments, and issue about the
environments.
Classification And Exemplification

There are a lot of terms used to describe computers. Most of these

words imply the size, expected use or capability of the computer. While
the term “computer” can apply to virtually any device that has a
microprocessor in it, most people think of a computer as a device that
receives input from the user through a mouse or keyboard, processes it
in some fashion and displays the result on a screen. Computers can be
divided into five according to the purpose they are used for and their
capabilities.
The most familiar type of microprocessor is the personal computer
(PC). It designed for general use by a single person. While a Mac is also a
PC, most people relate the term with systems that run the Windows
operating system. PCs were first known as microcomputers because they
were a complete computer but built on a smaller scale than the huge
systems in use by most businesses. A PC can come in two types (three if
we include the Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) that differ from PCs not
by the working policy but in appearance as well.): Desktop and laptop.
The former is not designed for portability. The expectation with desktop
systems is that you will set the computer up in a permanent location.
Most desktops offer more power, storage and versatility for less cost
than their portable brethren. On the other hand, the laptops - also called
notebooks - are portable computers that integrate the display, keyboard,
a pointing device or trackball, processor, memory and hard drive all in a
battery-operated package slightly larger than an average hardcover
book.
Another purpose for using a microprocessor is as a workstation.
The computers used for this purpose have a more powerful processor,
additional memory and enhanced capabilities for performing a special
group of task, such as 3D Graphics or game development.
A computer can also be used as a server. For this, it needs to be
optimized to provide services to other computers over a network.
Servers usually have powerful processors, lots of memory and large hard
drives.
A fourth type, a main frame is the heart of a network of computers
or terminals which allows hundreds of people to work at the same time
on the same data. It is indispensable for the business world.
Sometimes, computers can be used for specialized fields as well.
The supercomputer is the top of the heap in power and expense. It is
used for jobs that take massive amounts of calculating, like weather
forecasting, engineering design and testing, serious decryption, and
economic forecasting.
With the increasing demand in different specialties, new
adjustments are being made to microprocessors and new types of
computers that serve different purposes emerge. In this ongoing
process, it would not possible to put a full stop here. What we suggest is
that it is better to keep en eye on the development of science in this field
and keep updating our knowledge in order not to be out-of-date like the
computers of old times that were as big as a room.
Comparison and Contrast

Dogs vs Cats Comparison

This essay will compare and contrast dogs and cats, not as animals
– as they are completely different species – but as pets, go through the
issues of grooming, caring and feeding those animals. In this essay I
would like to highlight my points on the advantages of keeping either
cats or dogs and explain how to make a choice that will fit your character.
cats and dogs
To start my essay about dogs and cats, let us discuss some
similarities between dogs and cats, to understand the common problems
that may occur if you keep these pets. Both cats and dogs have fur,
therefore require regular combing and washing, if you don’t want to deal
with fleas in your house. Both cats and dogs shed, so you will definitely
have some problems with cleaning out their hackles. Both of them were
domesticated hundreds of years ago, so they got used to living in
captivity. The important issue for the breeder is that both cats and dogs
nurse their young without significant help from the human. Both cats and
dogs can be trained. And last, but not the least – they both bring love
and affection to humans, love to sleep with their owners, and are
believed to alleviate problems with health.
Dogs used to live in a pack in the free wild, thus, they require to be
with the pack in captivity, therefore they consider you and your family to
be their brood. In the wild the dogs hunt in a company of their kind, and
love to outnumber their prey. Dogs are usually extremely playful and
want to have a job to do. Dogs love to be petted, and can sit on your lap
for hours. Dogs are active during the day and sleep at nights. Dogs are
extremely “communicative” and use their body language and barking to
express their feelings.
Cats, on the other hand, usually hunt on their own, and do not need
any company. Certainly they can live together, although they do not
require to be with one another or with anyone else. Usually cats do not
want to sit with you, and some of them dislike being held. Cats are active
at night, and can sleep all day long. Cats can meow, but they are
definitely not as noisy as dogs, and much less expressive with their body
language.
Thus, both cats and dogs bring…

Comparison and contrast

When it is no longer possible for elderly people to live

independently, many families have to choose a live-in facility wher their
aging family member will be cared for. The numerous options available
as a rule can be divided into one of two categories: either assisted living
facilities or nursing homes. Selecting the right care facility can make the
difference in happiness, vigor and life duration of elderly members of the
family.
Problem solution
Almost half the world that is over three billion people lives on a
marginal income of less than $2.50 per day. The marginal income makes
survival impossible; it is insufficient to cover for the basic necessity of
food, clothing, and shelter. One of the measures that can be adapted to
encounter poverty is food security. Inadequate food forces people to
desperate measures, if the government can design policies to provide
food in minimum prices to the poor, it can give them an opportunity to
use their income to provide for the other basic necessity.
Another measure to fight poverty is by generating more
employment. The people beyond the poverty line are uneducated and
make up for the unskilled labor population of the country. Both public
and private investments can be helpful in generating more employment
for the population of the unskilled labor. Another policy that can be
adopted is to provide a minimal training to teach some skills to the labor
and make them employable.
Poverty makes people suffer psychologically. The difference in the
opportunities and income that they witness around themselves makes a
psychological impact on the poor. The government should focus on their
health and wellbeing. Providing for the health and medical facility at the
minimal cost to the poor section of the society helps in fighting poverty.
Conclusion
Fighting poverty is difficult as the poor cause poverty. They do not
adapt to the opportunity that comes to them and often prefer not to
work. They rather follow the antisocial ways of raising money than being
employed. The thought process of the poor makes it difficult for the
policies to help them out of their situation.

Example of Persuasion

Rich Does Not Mean Happy

The discussion on money and happiness has been going on for a
long time. There are some who believe that the more money you have,
the happier you are. People are busy indulging in different activities
while trying to be happy. You can buy food, clothing, shelter and other
things that people need but these are just physical things. Money
satisfies the physical needs of the person, but people need to understand
that happiness is not physical. It is an inner feeling that a person has.
Those who rely on money will always count on getting more and
will never be satisfied with the money they have. People who possess a
lot of money have more things than others who have a moderate
amount.
Example of persuasion

No Time
There will also be unnecessary competition among other people
who try to get more money than those surrounding them. They end up
looking for ways they can make more money and end up losing focus on
the things that truly make them happy. People who are focused on
money find themselves working all the time that they do not have time
to do the things they enjoy. Happiness comes in the form of having good
health. You can buy a good medical cover and pay for the best treatment
but cannot guarantee good health. If you are not healthy, you will not
get to enjoy life.
The reason is that you will not be healthy enough to do the things
you enjoy doing but will be limited. Those with terminal illnesses can
agree that money cannot heal them. They might get better treatment to
make them more comfortable, but the condition remains. Health is more
important than money, and it is better to have good health with no
money than have all the money in the world and be sick. People realize
the value of good health, and that is why people are spending a lot of
time doing research trying to find the cure to different illnesses. Money
also does not change the way people feel about you.
