The transport sector of India is a rapidly growing sector and contributes around 6.

4 % to the GDP of the


country. The sector is largely oil dependent and accounts for 13 % of the country's energy-related CO2
emissions. oil imports have been increasing steadily and making India the third largest importer of oil
globally. Nearly 80 % of India's current crude oil consumption comes from imports raising challenges of
national energy security.
India is witnessing a unique period of population growth, economic growth, and urbanization. One-third
of India's population lives in urban areas. Urban population is expected to grow in the future, and by
2050, half of India's population is projected to reside in cities, as projected by UN 2019. India's GDP is
also expected to grow at a healthy rate with per capita incomes reaching USD 15,842 as per 2010 prices,
in 2050. Population, income and urbanization are expected to drive vehicle ownership, travel demand,
and freight transport demand.
With Population explosion being amongst the biggest concern and Deterioration of Ozone layer and
increase in the quantity of Green House gases, the need of the hour for India is to search for alternatives
that provide Faster mode of Transit at Economic Price, taking in account the environmental
deterioration as well.
Taking all the stated concerns in account the most suited solution feasible in today’s time are ;

Bullet Train Hyperloop

Bullet Train : A Railway system designed to operate at speed above 250

Hyperloop : It is a concept which dates back its instigation since last century, inspired
by the model of Rail wagons moving on Rails. The central idea of Hyperloop revolves
around developing a fast mode of transportation, with reduction in the forces of
resisting forces. The most salient feature about Hyperloops is the considerable
reduction in the energy consumed to give the desired Output.
