Here's a tip
We've previously learned how to introduce ourselves by saying " - ..." (I am . .). In this Я
unit, we are going to learn another way of doing this. This time, we'll do so by answering
the question ? (What's your name?).

To address someone older or superior to you, we say " ?". We also use this

expression to address a group of people. You will see and hear it on the next screen.

All Russian people have a patronymic name. This is usually based on the father's name

and comes a er the first name, as you can see in the example below.
It is an o cial name and is therefore always wri en in the person's passport and on all
legal paperwork.
We don't normally use patronymic names when we are talking to close friends or family.
However, we always use them to address senior people or to sound more polite.
Order of names: first name, patronymic name, surname. Сергей Александрович
Фёдоров (Sergey Alexandrovich Fyodorov)
If someone asks you, " ?" or "
Как тебя зовут ?" and you want to ask them the
Как вас зовут
same question, you can simply say " ?" or " ?". А тебя А вас
