viii) Any special conditions that must be observed in producing the ordered product.

3.0 APPLICATIONS

Used for paneling and other general engineering purposes including fusion and resistance welding,.
Components with sharp bends, severe forming and deep drawing in all directions are made from DD and
EDD grades.

4.0 REQUIREMENTS
4.1 General :

Fluting stretcher strains and cracking during manufacture should not exceed 0.05%.

Surface finish shall be matt with average surface roughness value of Ra 1.2 micron Max. unless
otherwise specified in the purchase oreder. The sheets shall be free from harmful defects such as
scales, rust, blisters, laminations, pitting, porosity, cracked or torn or damaged/bent edges or any other
defects which will impair spot welding and uniform appearance of painted, electroplated and enamelled
surface. Each supply shall be accompanied by a batch test certificate.

4.2 Properties :

i) Chemical Composition & Physical Properties :

Chemical composition and physical properties shall be as given in table 1,2 & 3.

ii) n & r value :

For extra deep drawing grade following n and r values shall apply : (for information only)

n=0.25

r=1.71 mean width

r00 & r900 = 1.9 - 2.0

n Value :

The work hardening ratio, is obtained when the load - elongation curve is approximated

at =

n value is generally calculated by the formula,

n = 3.55 log (P2/P1) + 0.134 where P1 and P2 are loads,

when elongation is 10% and 20% respectively.

r value :

Using standard tensile specimen, 25 mm length is accurately marked in the centre of the parallel section.
The width of the piece is measured at five positions along the 25 mm guage length and the mean width is
recorded. The test piece is then strained to approx. 15% elongation, measured on the 25 mm guage length.

LTS 2300
The test piece is removed from the tensile testing machine and the mean width and gauge length are accurately
measured. The r value is determined by using following formula :

Ew log (wo/Wf)
r = --------- = -----------------------------
Et Log (Lf. Wf/Lo.Wo)

Where,

Lo = Initial guage length.

Lf = Final guage length.

Wo = Initial guage width.

and Wf = Final guage width.

iii) Erichsen Cupping Values :

(Applicable for thickness upto and including 2.00 mm)

The Erichsen cupping values for D, DD and EDD grades shall be :

THICKNESS (mm) Depth of cupping (mm), min.

D DD EDD

0.8 9.2 9.7 10.1

1.0 9.8 10.2 10.6

1.2 10.3 10.7 11.1

1.6 11.1 11.5 11.8

2.0 11.3 11.9 12.3

iv) Non ageing characteristics :

The EDD grades should be of non - ageing Aluminium killed quality only. The manufacturer shall
guarantee the absence of stretcher strains on being cold worked, for a period of 6 months from the date
of despatch.
