The Dar es Salaam Goat Races 2019

The Dar es Salaam Rotary Goat Races has been a staple in the annual event-calendar for the past 18 years and one of the
premier charity events in the city. Last year the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oysterbay (“Rotary Club of Oysterbay”) decided
to carry on with the races from its previous organizers and the first event under the new brand “The Goat Races presented
by the Rotary Club of Oysterbay”, was a great success. This year’s event will take place on the 21st September on the Green
in Oysterbay and banks on the previous assets of the races: a fun family-event with proceeds going to charitable projects.

This is the second year that the Rotary Club of Oysterbay will be holding the Event under the name of The Goat Races
presented by the Rotary Club of Oysterbay. Revenues generated from this year’s Event will be used for various service
projects of Rotary Club of Oysterbay based on Rotary International’s six focus areas and environmental projects carried out
by the Rotary Club of Oysterbay, its member volunteers and international and local partners. The cause this year would be
focusing on efforts towards enriching, enhancing, and promoting service above self in our local communities. This can be
through new initiatives as well as the ones that are currently underway such as scholarships, provision of facilities and
education on hygiene and sanitation, peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation,
maternal and child health, basic education and literacy and economic and community development.

Rotary International is one of the world‘s most reputable charity organizations globally. Rotary International Foundation is
one of the few international charitable organizations that has received a four-star rating from “Charity Navigator”, the largest
and most trusted independent evaluator of non-profit organisations in the US.

The President of Rotary Club of Dar es salaam Oysterbay, Amish Shah explained that this year’s motto ‘Arabian Dreams’, will
attract new fans and previous Goat Race enthusiasts likewise. ‘As in previous years, the Goat Races were able to attract large
sponsors and this year will be no different’, added Shah. “We are thankful for the trust in our organizational capacity our
sponsors have given us and we are confident that the Goat Races 2019 will be a fun event for everyone”. Added Filip Kitundu
the co-project manager for this year’s event. The event is fun-filled and caters for the entire family with all the amenities to
keep everyone entertained.

The Rotary Club of Oysterbay was founded in 2009 and has currently about 70 members. It is the largest Rotary Club in
Tanzania and supports the community with a wide range of projects, among those a Community Health Initiative that
organizes biannual medical camps in rural and urban Tanzania, the Vijana Poa project to help young university students, to
provide funding for the new wing of the CCBRT-Hospital.
