GUIDE TO TMA 1

JULY 2019

BBM103/05 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF MANAGEMENT

Dear students,

The guide is to help you understand and answer the questions asked in the Tutor
Marked Assignment 1 (TMA1). Questions in TMA1 are based on Units 1 and 2 of
your course material which you can find in the LMS.

Before you answer the TMA questions it is important that you read and
understand Units 1 and 2. You are also encouraged to read other books and
materials that are available in WOU library. Please also refer to the LMS on the
Guide to answering Case Study based questions as well as Examination
Terminology Guide.

Please do not just copy–paste from internet sources or course materials but use
you own words as much as possible to explain.

Question 1 (a) and (b)

 To answer Part (a) (i) read Unit 1 pg 8 to 12 on the Functions of Management.


First, explain the FOUR (4) functions of management and how Alison can
achieve the RM500, 000 sales target.

 For part (b), you need to read Unit 1 pg 28 to 30 on The Scientific Management.
Start off by explaining the four principles. Then, provide two examples of
organisation that are still practicing these principles.

Question 2 (a), (b) and (c)

Read the case study first.

 For part (a), read Unit 2 pg 52 to understand different types of approach to


corporate social responsibility (CSR). Then explain which approach has Aspen
Group taken in their CSR.

 Part (b), Read Unit 2 pg 48 to 49 ‘The Corporate Citizen” particularly on


customers and communities. After that, based on the article, explain how Aspen
Group are socially responsible towards their customers and communities. You
can also surf their website (https://aspen.com.my/corporate/#vision) for more
information.

 Part (c), read Unit 2 pg 49 to 50 on “Arguments for Social Responsibility”.


You are required to identify the FIVE (5) argument from your reading and then
proceed to explain each of the points that you have identified.
