Daily Inspection

NOTICE
Accumulated grease and oil on a machine is a fire haz-
ard. Remove this debris with steam cleaning or high
pressure water, at least every 1000 hours or each time
any significant quantity of oil is spilled on a machine.
Perform the following procedures on a daily basis.

Inspect the hydraulic system for leaks. Inspect the
hydraulic cylinders and inspect the cylinder rods and
seals for damage or for excessive wear. Inspect the
linkage and the work tool for damage or for excessive
wear. Make any necessary repairs.

“Undercarriage - Check” Correct any leaks in the hydraulic system.

Refer to the Maintenance Section for the detailed
procedures. Refer to the Maintenance Interval
Schedule for a complete list of scheduled
maintenance.
Inspect the final drives for leaks. Make any necessary
repairs. Check the oil level if you see leakage.
Inspect the swing drive for leaks. Make any
necessary repairs.

Inspect the lights for broken bulbs and for broken
lenses. Replace any broken components.
Inspect the engine compartment for any trash
buildup. Remove any trash buildup from the engine
compartment.
Inspect the cooling system for any leaks, for faulty
hoses, and for any trash buildup. Correct any leaks,
and remove any trash from the radiator.
Inspect all of the belts for the engine attachments.
Replace any belts that are worn, frayed, or broken.
Make sure that all covers and guards are securely
attached. Inspect the covers and the guards for
damage.
Inspect the steps, the walkways, and the handholds.
Clean the steps, the walkways, and the handholds.
Make any necessary repairs.
Inspect the Falling Object Protective Structure for
damage. Tighten any loose bolts. If repairs are
needed, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
Inspect the operator compartment for trash buildup.
Check for trash buildup under the floorplate. Keep
these areas clean.
Adjust the rearview mirrors for the best operator
vision.

Mounting and Dismounting

Use steps and handholds whenever you mount
the machine. Use steps and handholds whenever
you dismount the machine. Before you mount the
machine, clean the step and the handholds. Inspect
the step and handholds. Make all necessary repairs.
Face the machine whenever you mount the machine
and whenever you dismount the machine. Maintain a
three-point contact with the step and with handholds.
Note: Three-point contact can be two feet and one
hand. Three-point contact can also be one foot and
two hands.
Do not mount a moving machine. Do not dismount a
moving machine. Never jump off the machine. Do
not try to mount the machine when you carry tools
or supplies. Do not try to dismount the machine
when you are carrying tools or supplies. Use a hand
line to pull equipment onto the platform. Do not
use any controls as handholds when you enter the
operator compartment or when you exit the operator
compartment.
