that as many as two million American students
are being homeschooled. Families choose
homeschooling for a variety of reasons,
including a desire to avoid bullying and other
negative influences, the ability to incorporate
religion into academic education, the ability
to travel, tailored student learning plans, and
more. Other families have concerns about the
safety of public schools. But how does a
homeschool education measure up to the
traditional public school system?
Homeschooling offers some significant
advantages over the traditional public school
system. Where the public school system focuses
on grades and merit, a homeschooling family

can focus on mastery. This can be achieved by
mapping out a curriculum in which each year of
study builds conspicuously on the year before.
