Schematics

Hayden Glasgow
What is a Schematic?
● A simplified version of an electrical circuit
● Each symbol represents a part of the electrical circuit
Resistor
Resists energy flowing from connected wires or
other electrical items.
Capacitor
Used to store energy
Polarized Capacitor
Type of capacitor that can only be connected
in a one way circuit.
Diode
A specialized electrical component with an
anode, being positive, and a cathode, being
negative.
Light Emitting Diode
Type of diode that allows energy to pass in the
forward direction, but blocks energy in the reverse
direction.
Integrated Circuit
An electrical circuit on a small chip
AC Current and DC Current
AC = Alternating Current

Flows in alternating directions.

DC = Direct Current

Electricity flows in one direction.

Other Symbols
Breaker - thermal protection

Transistors - amplifies currents

Potentiometers - dimmer switch

Wire - measured by gage
