Skin Mildness
Zein Test Mixture of 100 ml surfactant solution
There is a very good correlation between acute skin irritation and the (1 % a.s.) with 6 g protein (zein)
solubilization capacity of surfactants. A common model substance for the
solubilization of proteins is zein, the protein from corn grain. In the Zein Test
some of the water insoluble zein is dissolved, to a greater or lesser extend,
by aqueous surfactant solutions. After centrifugation the dissolved zein is Stirring for 1 h
decomposed with concentrated sulfuric acid and the nitrogen content of the Centrifugation
solution coming out of the protein is determined. Surfactants with high zein
values increase the roughness of the skin and are regarded as more skin
irritant.

Performance Evaluation
Mini Plate Test - Procedure
Mini-Plate Test The detergent solution is prepared according to the
local conditions (water hardness and detergent
concentration are adjusted)
„ Objective:
– To evaluate the performance of
a dishwashing detergent,
through a dynamic foam
generation.
The foam is generated by a modified proper stirrer
„ The Test: (for 60 s)
– Continuous foam generation.
– Soiled mini-plates are washed
by hand.

Standard Soil Composition (%W/W) The soiled mini-plates (1.0 g/1h aging) are washed
