who reads and hears it. This Blessing and Mercy of
Allāh , the Majestic, will unlock the heart to a
trajectory that will lead to His Door. May Allāh 

INTRODUCTION TO THE RĀTIB Al-
ḤADDĀD

In the Name of Allāh, the Most Compassionate,


the Most Merciful.

The Rātib Al-Ḥaddād (rātib, from the root word


rataba, meaning, to arrange things in proper order;
to arrange certain supererogatory exercises of
devotion in proper order) of Imām ‛Abdullāh ibn
‛Alawī Al-Ḥaddād, is a wird (litany; dhikr)
consisting of Qur’anic verses between which are
weaved Prophetic Sunnah, Attributes and
Glorifications of Allāh , into a graceful tapestry.
The Rātib Al-Ḥaddād is also known as Al-Rātib Al-
Shahīr (The Famous Litany). It is said that the Rātib
Al-Ḥaddād came to the Imām by inspiration, and
was composed on the Night of Laylatul Qadr (the
Night of Destiny) on the 27th of Ramaḍān 1071 A.H.
(26th May 1650 C.E.).
* (A.H. means after the Hijrah; the Prophet’s
migration from Makkah to Madinah).

calendar starts to count the years.}

The Imām related that the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād will


protect the village, the town or the city where it is
recited, and advised, that those people with special
requests for their Creator, should recite the Rātib Al-
Ḥaddād and supplicate to their Lord thereafter.
When the Imām went on Ḥajj, he inaugurated the
Rātib Al-Ḥaddād in Makkah and Madinah. This
litany is still recited every night in these two Holy
cities: near Bāb al-Ṣafā in Makkah and Bāb al-
Raḥmah in Madinah. Sayed Aḥmad ibn Zayn Al-
Ḥabashī said: “He who recites the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād
with total presence of mind, perfect reverence, an
absolute certitude and a sincere intention, followed
by the tahlīl -“lā ilāha illallāh”- to reach a
thousand (1000) times (instead of the prescribed
fifty times), will surely have something of the
unseen unveiled to him/her”.

Imām ‛Abdullāh ibn ‛Alawi Al-Ḥaddād (of


Ṭarīqah Banī ‛Alawī) was born in the spiritual city
of Tarīm, Haḍramawt, Republic of Yemen, in the
month of Ṣafar, in the year 1043 A.H. (1622 C.E.),

and died in the month of Dhul Qa‛dah in the year
1132 A.H. (1711 C.E.) - aged eighty-nine (89) years.
The beloved Imām was appropriately called the
Renewer (mujaddid) of the twelfth Islamic or
seventeenth Common Era Century, and the Central
Pole (Al-Quṭb) of religious leaders during his period.

It is the opinion of most of the historians on Cape


culture, that the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād was brought to the
Cape (South Africa) by the spiritual master and
luminary, Shaykh Yusuf Al-Macassar Al-Jāwī (an
activist against Dutch rule who were exiled to South
Africa, and who lived in Macassar, Java, Indonesia).
It is believed that Shaykh Yusuf (Born 1035 A.H. or
1614 C.E.) studied in Zabīd, Republic of Yemen,
under the celebrated Shaykh Abdul Baqi al-Misjaji.
In his book an-Nafā’is al-‛Ulawiyyah fil Masā’il aṣ-
Ṣūfiyyah, Imām Ḥaddād recorded, that he was asked
the following question: Is there another level (of
spirituality) between that of Prophethood and
ṣiddīqiyyah? To which he replied: “Differences of
opinion exists on this issue. The Gnostic,
Muḥammad ibn al-‛Arabī, and author of al-Futūḥāt,
has mentioned that another level, known as the level
of qurbah (closeness to Allāh) does exist. He (ibn al-
‛Arabī) has an authored work in this regard. We

have seen this work and it had been read to us in the
city of Ta’iz, Yemen. A man of spirituality, known
as Yusuf al-Jāwī (from Java), read it to us (in class)
and he is from our students (aṣḥāb).”

The Rātib Al-Ḥaddād can be recited (with or


without a tune/melody) alone (as a wird) or in
congregation, the latter being the preferred method
of recitation. In Cape Town (South Africa), it was
traditionally recited on Thursday and Sunday
evenings, but it can be recited on any day of the
week, and at any time.

This is not the first publication of the Rātib Al-


Ḥaddād in South Africa. Luminaries like Shaykh
‛Abdullāh ‛Abd al-Ra‛ūf, Shaykh Isma‛īl Ḥanif,
Shaykh Muḥammad Ṭāhā Gamieldien and Shaykh
Muḥammad Amīn Fakier, have contributed
immensely to the dissemination of this laudable
litany and wird, in South Africa and abroad.

On the international scene, Ḥabīb Al-‛Aydarūs


ibn ‛Abdullāh Al-Ḥabashī from Muar in Johor,
produced a Javanese translation of the Rātib Al-
Ḥaddād. The Al-Ḥaddād family of Solo, Indonesia,
produced a similar booklet. Published in Kuala

Lumpur, is a book on the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād, written
in Arabic and Javanese, by ‛Abdullāh bin Ḥasan bin
Ḥusayn Al-Shātrī of Singapore. This work
references and notes the sources of the prayers, their
secrets and their benefits. The illustrious Ustādh
Bābu Ṣāḥib of Singapore, also produced an English
translation of the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād. Ḥabīb ‛Umar
ibn Ḥafīth of Tarīm, Haḍramawt, has also
commissioned the translation of the Rātib Al-
Ḥaddād, which appears in his Khulāṣah. A Malay
translation of the commentaries of “Sharḥ Rātib Al-
Ḥaddād” by Ustādh Sayed Ahmad ibn Sumayt is
now available in Singapore. A similar translation by
Sayed Muḥammad Al-Ḥāmid, is available in
Indonesia.

The reader will note that there are slight


variations in the different publications, mostly in the
Fātiḥas at the end of the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād. These
have been added to the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād at a later
stage. Ḥabīb Aḥmad Mashur Al-Ḥaddād, a direct
descendent of Imām Al-Ḥaddād said: "When the
reciter comes to the Fātiḥas, the spirit of Imām Al-
Ḥaddād responds, the Imām is present, and he
intercedes and pleads with Allāh for the acceptance
of the du‛āh. Many people in difficulty, have

recounted how, by reciting the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād
with specific intentions, they have experienced relief
and success.

To broaden and intensify the understanding of


the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād, we have, in a humble effort,
added a comprehensive commentary to explain the
various verses of the Qur’ān, the Ḥadīth and the
Imām’s own contributions.

For the Qur’ānic translations, we opted for “The


Holy Qur’ān” by Yusuf Ali, “The Noble Qur’ān” by
Drs Muḥammad Al-Hilālī and Muḥsin Khan and
“The Qur’ān” by Mawlana Wāḥiduddīn Khan. In
order to make it easy for readers from any part of the
world to read the transliteration of the Arabic, we
have used, in the main, the Encyclopedia of Islam
(New Edition) with minor adjustments.

This translation has valuable end-notes and a


glossary to explain the meanings of untranslatable
Arabic words, Islamic concepts, Qur’ānic quotations
and Ḥadīth. The words in brackets in this edition of
the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād have been included to assist
with the setting of the tone/melody (lāgu) for the
people of Cape Town, South Africa.

It is our prayer, that this rendition of the Rātib
Al-Ḥaddād will be spiritually enriching to the many
travellers on their journey to the Majestic and Most
Exalted, Allah .

THE BIOGRAPHY OF IMĀM ‛ABDULLĀH
IBN ‛ALAWĪ AL-ḤADDĀD


Imām ‛Abdullāh ibn ‘Alawī al-Ḥaddād, the
author of the well-known daily wird (or litany) Rātib
al-Ḥaddād, is a member of a large family of saints,
scholars and du‛āt of the Bā ‛Alawī family of
Ḥaḍramawt. The roots of this family go back to
Imām Aḥmad al-Muhājir, a decendant of Nabī
Muḥammad  through Imām ‛Ali al-‛Uraydi son of
Imām Ja‛far al-Ṣādiq. Imām Aḥmad is known as al-
Muhājir, because he fled (hijrah) the heavy political
disturbances in Baghdad (where his father had
moved earlier from Madinah), and moved with his
family to Yemen, and eventually settled in
Ḥaḍramawt. His qabr (grave) is still there, built-up
and frequented by the Bā ‛Alawīs and others.

Books on Taṣawwuf, and especially the works of


Imām Ghazāli were studied, memorized, dissected,
practiced and passed on from generation to
generation. During the early part of the history of
this family, they preferred anonymity. Their spiritual
methods and insights were preserved like a closely

guarded family secret. The value of this remarkable
family-focussed spirituality, came to the notice of
the broader Ummah much later. They made a
particularly strong impression in Makkah and
Madinah from around the 9th – 10th centuries A.H.
onwards, when a number of the Bā ‛Alawī Sayyids
moved to the Ḥijās and settled there. The da‛wa
activities of this family, is probably the primary
reason for the spread of Islam in South East Asia.
Traditional Islam was brought to Indonesia, the
Phillipines, Malaysia, Brunei and a large part of
Southern India in this way.

The great spiritual leader and organizer of the Bā


‛Alawī ṭarīqah was Imām Muḥammad al-Faqīh al-
Muqaddam Bā ‛Alawī. He received the ṣūfi spiritual
lineage that passes through Imām Ghazāli, from Abū
Madyan, during the 6th century A.H., the age of the
emergence of the great ṭuruq. The family also
possesses lineages that go back to the Nabī 
through this family.

Imām ‛Abdullāh al-Ḥaddād was born on a


Sunday night, during the month of Ṣafr, in the year
1043 A.H. (1622 C.E.). His father was ‛Alawī ibn
Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Ḥaddād, and his mother
the very pious Salma bint ‛Aydarūs ibn Aḥmad al-

Ḥibshi. Both of them died in the year 1073 A.H.
(1652 C.E.), when the Imām was thirty (30) years
old.

The Imām contracted small-pox at the age of


three (3), and as a result, lost his eyesight. He grew
up in Tarīm, one of the well-known towns in
Ḥaḍramawt. It was here that he memorized the
Qur’ān. He displayed a very powerful spiritual
tendency from a very early age. The Imām used to
go into very deep spiritual states during the Ḥaḍrah.
One childhood friend of his, Imām Aḥmad ‛Umr al-
Hadawān said, that at times he could not come out of
his state of bliss, unless they carried and placed him
on top of the qabr of Imām Muḥammad al-Faqīh al-
Muqaddam. The Imām also won the favour of the
spiritual masters of his time. Another friend of his,
Imām Aḥmad Hāshim al-Ḥibshī said, that they use
to study together the works of Imām Ghazāli under
the great Shaykh of the Bā ‛Alawīs, Imām ‛Umr
‛Abdurraḥmān al-‛Aṭṭās. During one session, the
Shaykh told him: “You and ‛Abdullāh al-Ḥaddād are
the same at the beginning, and you will part the
same at the ending.

In his early life, the Imām travelled frequently.


Whenever he heard of a saintly person, he would

pay him a visit in order to receive his blessings and
guidance. In this way, he built up a collection of
ijāzāt and khirqahs, details of which can be seen in
the great collections of the ‛Alawī scholars.

The dominant figures in the spiritual life and


development of the Imām, were Sayyid ‛Umr al-
‛Aṭṭās and Sayyid Muḥammad ibn ‛Alawī, the latter
being the great Makkan scholar and spiritual guide.
These, and other shuyūkh, thought highly of the
Imām. Sayyid ‛Umr al-‛Aṭṭās for example said, that
no one equalled Imām al-Ḥaddād in their age.
Sayyid Aḥmad ibn Nāṣir compared Imām al-Ḥaddād
to Bā Yazīd al-Bistami. The great scholar, Sayyid
Shaykhayn ibn Ḥusayn, called Imām al-Ḥaddād,
“the Ka‛bah of hearts”.

The Imām is known to have frequented the qabr


of Nabī Hūd (may Allah’s Peace and Blessings be
upon him), which is located in Ḥaḍramawt. He
advised people to recite the mawlūd at this holy
shrine. He also regularly spent time at the qabr of al-
Faqīh al-Muqaddam and Shaykh Abū Bakr bin
Sālim al-‛Aynati. The name of the last saint is
quoted in one of the works of Tuan Yūsuf. In fact,
Tuan Yūsuf ends one of his treatises with a piece of
the poetry of Shaykh Abū Bakr bin Sālim.

According to his students, the Imām used to do these
visitations after ‛Asr on both Fridays and Tuesdays.

Imām al-Ḥaddād performed his Ḥajj in the year


1079 A.H. He was thirty-six (36) years old at the
time and stayed at the house of Sayyid Ḥusayn Bā
Faḍl in Makkah. His landlord also thought highly of
him. Sayyid Ḥusayn saw in him a combination of
the traits of both Sayyid Muḥammad ibn ‛Alawī and
the great ṣūfi shaykh of Makkah Aḥmad al-
Qushāshī.

Imām al-Ḥaddād was actively involved in


teaching. Since the age of twenty-seven (27), he
taught at the famous Masjid al-Hujayrah in Tarīm.
At the same time, he conducted classes at his
zāwiyah. A point to note here is, that the whole
concept of a zāwiyah as an educational institution
rather than fundamentally as a place of worship or
masjid, is a typical ‛Alawī phenomenon. They built
zawāyā (pl. of zāwiyah) near or next to the masājid
wherever they travelled or settled. His classes were
well attended, and from those classes, emerged some
of the greatest scholars in Ḥaḍrami history. The
author of the world famous risālah al-jāmi‛ah,
Imām Aḥmad Zayn al-Ḥibshī for example, attended
those classes for approximately forty (40) years.

In the year 1083 A.H. (1662 C.E), at the age of
forty (40), Imām al-Ḥaddād built his home near
Tarīm. The house is in the centre of a complex,
surrounded by a masjid (Masjid al-Fatḥ). This
hallowed place soon became the spiritual and
intellectual centre of Ḥaḍramawt. The list of
scholars and ṣufiyyah, who attended or stayed at this
place, is too long to mention. Huge charitable
ḥafalāt (pl. of ḥaflah - gatherings) were held at this
masjid, where both rich and poor were hosted. The
Imām called this place Ḥāwī al-Khayrāt wa al-Nūr,
which literally means “embracing goodness and
light”.

In the beginning, Imām al-Ḥaddād stayed at al-


Ḥāwī for short periods of time, sometimes for a year,
whereafter he would return to the city. In the year
1099 A.H. (1678 C.E.), at the age of fifty-six (56),
he moved to al-Ḥāwī permanently, where he had
daily classes, on Mondays and Thursdays. These
were held inside or on the roof of the house. Other
classes were held every night in the masjid.

The Imām passed away in the year 1132 A.H.


(1711 C.E.) at the age of eighty-nine (89). He fell
sick on the 27th of Ramaḍān of that year and
remained sick until the 7th of Dhul Qa‛dah. The

ghusl was done by his son and successor, Sayyid
Ḥasan al-Ḥaddād and the janāzah was led by his
other son, Sayyid ‛Alawī. The attendance at the
janāzah was so huge, that it was said, that the mayyit
left the house after ‛Asr, and was only laid to rest in
the qabr after sunset.

Imām al-Ḥaddād left 10 children – 6 sons and 4


daughters. In addition to all this, the Imām left a
considerable legacy of writings. The Imām’s books,
which are highly recommended, and where poetry
takes pride of place, have benefitted generations of
both students and scholars. One scholar said that
most of the Imām’s deepest insights are contained in
his poetry. Interestingly, the descendants of a few
local Imāms have copies of the famous commentary
of Imām Aḥmad bin Sumayyit on the Lāmiyyah
(called Lāmiyyah because each verse ends with the
Arabic letter lām) of Imām al-Ḥaddād. He also
composed a series of awrād (or litanies), most of
which are central to the daily practices of the Bā
‛Alawiyyah, and their students.

Imām ‛Abdullāh al-Ḥaddād has written a number


of very useful books. Here is a list of some of them:

I seek refuge with Allāh from the accursed Satan.
In the Name of Allāh, Most Compassionate,
Most Merciful.

Nastaghfirullāhal We seek forgiveness


‛aẓīm, nastagh from Allāh, the
firullāhal ‛aẓīm, Sublime; we seek
nastaghfirullāhal forgiveness from
‛aẓīm, Allāh, the Sublime; we
seek forgiveness from
Allāh, the Sublime.

Attawwābur raḥīm, The Oft-Relenting,


alladhī lā ilāha Most Merciful. There is
illallāhu, huwal ḥayyul no god but Allāh, the
qayyūm wa natūbu Living, the Self-
ilayhi, wa nas’aluka Subsisting. We return to
tawbatan wa Him in repentance, and
maghfiratan innahū we ask for His
huwat tawwābur Penitence and
raḥīm: Allāhumma Forgiveness. Indeed, He
ṣalli wa sallim ‛alā is Oft-Relenting, Most

‫ﺻ ِّﻞ َو َﺳﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠﻰ َﺳﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ٍﺪ ﱠو َﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ‬ ‫ﻢ‬
‫ﱠ‬ ‫ﻬ‬ ‫اَﻟ ٰ‬
‫ﻠ‬
‫ّ‬
‫َ‬ ‫ُ‬
‫ـﻞ َو َﺳـﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ‬ ‫ٍ ٰ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ٰا ِل َﺳﻴِّﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤﺪ ‪ ،‬اَﻟﻠّ ُﻬـ ﱠﻢ َ‬
‫ﺻ ِّ‬
‫َﺳﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ٍﺪ ﱠو َﻋ ٰﻠﻰ ٰا ِل َﺳﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ٍﺪ ‪.‬‬

‫ﺻ ـﻠﱠﻰ‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫إِ ٰﱃ ﺣ ْ ِ‬


‫ﺼ ـﻄَ ٰﻔﻰ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤــﺪ َ‬ ‫ـﱯ اﻟ ُْﻤ ْ‬ ‫ﻀـ َـﺮة اﻟﻨﱠـ ِ ِّ‬ ‫َ‬
‫ـﺤﺎﺑِ ِﻪ‬ ‫ِِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﷲُ َﻋﻠَْﻴـ ــﻪ َو َﺳ ـ ـﻠﱠ َﻢ َو َﻋ ٰﻠ ـ ـﻰ ٰاﻟـ ــﻪ َوأ ْ‬
‫ط‬
‫َﺻـ ـ َ‬
‫اﺟـ ـ ـ ِـﻪ وذُ ِرﱠ ﺗِـ ـ ـ ِـﻪ وأ َْﻫـ ـ ـ ِـﻞ ﺑـﻴﺘِـ ـ ـ ِـﻪ اﻟ ِ‬
‫ْﻜـ ـ ـ َـﺮ ِام‬ ‫وأَ ْزو ِ‬
‫َْ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫َ ّ‬ ‫َ َ‬
‫اﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَﺔُ‪.‬‬

Allāhumma ṣalli wa O Allāh! Bestow Your
sallim ‛alā sayyidinā Blessings and Peace
Muḥammad wa ‛alā upon our master
āli sayyidinā Muḥammad, and upon
Muḥammad, the family of our
Allāhumma ṣalli wa master Muḥammad. O
sallim ‛alā sayyidinā Allāh! Bestow Your
Muḥammad wa ‛alā Blessings and Peace
āli sayyidinā upon our master
Muḥammad. Muḥammad, and upon
the family of our
master Muḥammad.

Ilā ḥaḍratin nabiyyil The Fātiḥah is recited


muṣṭafā Muḥammad on the soul of the
ṣallallāhu ‛alayhi wa chosen Prophet, Nabī
sallam, wa ‛alā ālihī Muḥammad; may
wa aṣḥābihī wa Allāh’s Blessings and
azwājihī wa dhurriy Peace be upon him,
yātihī wa ahli baytihil and on the souls of his
kirāmil fātiḥah. family, Companions,
wives, offspring and
all members of his
noble household.

‫ﷲ‬ ‫َْ‬ ‫اح َِ ْ‬
‫ﲨ ْﻴـ ـ ِﻊ أُﱠﻣ ـ ِـﺔ‬
‫اح َِ‬ ‫ﲔ‪ ،‬اَﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَـ ـﺔُ إِ ٰﱃ أ َْرَو ِ‬
‫ﺼ ــﺎﳊِِ ْ َ‬ ‫َواﻟ ﱠ‬
‫ِ ﱠ ِ ِ‬ ‫ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ َ ﱠ‬
‫ﺻـﻠﻰ ﷲُ َﻋﻠَْﻴــﻪ َو َﺳـﻠ َﻢ‪ ،‬إ ْﻏﻔـ ْـﺮ َﳍـُ ْـﻢ َ‬
‫اَ ُ َو ْار َﲪْ ُﻬ ْﻢ ﺑَِﺮ ْﲪَ ِﺔ ُﺳ ْﻮَرةِ اﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَ ِﺔ‪،‬‬
‫‪ MAKE DUʻĀ HERE THAT IS‬‬
‫‪APPROPRIATE FOR AND PERTAINING‬‬
‫‪TO THE OCCASION E.G.:‬‬

‫‪1.‬‬ ‫‪A SICKNESS‬‬

‫ﺗَ ْﺴﻠِ ْﻴ ًﻤﺎ ﴿‪﴾﴾۵۶‬‬
‫ﻮرةُ ْاﻷ ْ‬
‫َﺣ َﺰاب )‪ ،(٣٣‬آﻳﺔ ‪٥٦‬‬ ‫ُﺳ َ‬

Alfātiḥah ilā arwāḥi The Fātiḥah is recited on
jamī‛i awliyā’illāhi the souls of all the saints
waṣṣāliḥīn, alfātiḥah and pious people; and on
ilā arwāḥi jamī‛i the souls of the whole
ummati Muḥammadin ummah of Muḥammad;
ṣallallāhu ‛alayhi wa may Allāh’s Blessings
sallam, ighfir lahum and Peace be upon him.
yā Allāh warḥamhum O Allāh! Forgive them
biraḥmati sūratil and have Compassion on
fātiḥah, them through the
Mercifulness of Sūrah
Al-Fātiḥah.

 MAKE DUʻĀ HERE THAT IS


APPROPRIATE FOR AND PERTAINING
TO THE OCCASION E.G.:

1. A SICKNESS
2. A DEATH
3. A BIRTHDAY, OR
4. FOR ANY OTHER OCCASION

Innallāha wa malā’ Verily, Allāh and His


ikatahū yuṣallūna angels send
‛alan nabiy, yā Salutations upon the
ayyuhal ladhīna Prophet; O you who
āmanū ṣallū ‛alayhi believe, send
wa sallimū taslīmā. Salutations and Peace
[Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb (33), upon him.

‫ﻚ اﻟ ٰﻠّ ُﻬ ـ ﱠﻢ َوَِﲢﻴﱠـ ـﺘُـ ُﻬ ْﻢ‬‫﴿ َد ْﻋـ ٰـﻮ ُﯨﻬ ْﻢ ﻓِ ْﻴـ َﻬــﺎ ُﺳـ ْـﺒ ٰﺤﻨَ َ‬
‫ﻓِﻴـﻬــﺎ ﺳ ـ ٰﻠﻢج وٰا ِﺧــﺮ َد ْﻋـ ٰـﻮﯨﻬﻢ اَ ِن ا ْﳊﻤ ـ ُﺪ ِِّٰ‬

‫ﲔ ﴿‪﴾﴾۱۰‬‬ ‫ب اﻟْ ٰﻌﻠَ ِﻤ ْ َ‬ ‫َر ِّ‬

Da‛wāhum fīhā In that (state of
subḥānakal lāhumma happiness) they will
wa taḥiyyatuhum fīhā call out: “Glory be to
salām, wa ākhiru You, O Allāh!” while
da‛wāhum anil ḥamdu their greetings in it
lillāhi rabbil ‛ālamīn. (Paradise) will be:
[Sūrah Yūnus (10), “All Praise is due to
Āyah 10] Allāh, the Lord of the
Worlds.”

‫َﻵ اﻟﻪَ إ ﱠﻻ ﷲُ ٭ َوﷲُ أَ ْﻛ َُ‬

‫ﲪ ِﻦ اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ‬ ‫ﺑِﺴ ِﻢ ِ‬
‫ﷲ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬ ‫ْ‬
‫ﺼـ َـﻤ ُﺪ ﴿‪ ﴾۲‬ﻟَ ـ ْﻢ ﻳَﻠِ ـ ْﺪ‬
‫﴿ﻗُـ ْـﻞ ُﻫـ َـﻮ ﷲُ اَ َﺣ ـ ٌﺪ ﴿‪ ﴾۱‬اَ ُ اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫َوﻟَـ ـ ْﻢ ﻳُـ ْﻮﻟَـ ـ ْﺪ ﴿‪َ ﴾۳‬وﻟَـ ـ ْﻢ ﻳَ ُﻜ ـ ْـﻦ ﻟﱠــﻪُ ُﻛ ُﻔ ـ ًـﻮا اَ َﺣـ ـ ٌﺪ ﴿‪﴾﴾۴‬‬

‫ﺖ‬‫ﺎﺳ ٍﻖ اِ َذا وﻗَﺐ ﴿‪ ﴾۳‬وِﻣـﻦ َﺷ ِـﺮ اﻟﱠﻨـ ّٰﻔ ٰﺜـ ِ‬ ‫وِﻣﻦ َﺷ ِﺮ ﻏَ ِ‬

‫ﺴ َﺪ ﴿‪﴾﴾۵‬‬ ‫ﰱ اﻟ ُْﻌَﻘﺪ ﴿‪َ ﴾۴‬وﻣ ْﻦ َﺷِّﺮ َﺣﺎﺳﺪ اذَا َﺣ َ‬

1 Qul huwal lāhu aḥad. 1 Say: He is Allāh, the One
and Only;
2 Allāhuṣ ṣamad. 2 Allāh, the Eternal,
Absolute;
3 Lam yalid wa lam yūlad. 3 He was not born, nor does
He give birth;
4 Wa lam yakul lahū 4 And there is nothing like
kufuwan aḥad. (3 times) Him. (3 times) [Sūrah Al-Ikhlāṣ
[Sūrah Al-Ikhlāṣ (112), Āyāt 1-4] (112), Verses 1-4]

1 Qul a‛ūdhu birabbil falaq. 1 Say: I seek refuge with the
Lord of the daybreak;
2 Min sharri mā khalaq. 2 From the mischief of
created things;
3 Wa min sharri ghāsiqin 3 From the mischief of
idhā waqab. darkness as it becomes
intense;
4 Wa min sharrin naffāthāti 4 From the mischief of those
fil ‛uqad. who practise secret arts;
5 Wa min sharri ḥāsidin 5 And from the mischief of
idhā ḥasad. the envious one as he
[Sūrah Al-Falaq (113), Āyāt 1-5] practises envy.

‫اﻟ ــﺬ ْى ﻳُـ َﻮ ْﺳـ ـ ِﻮ ُ‬
‫ﱠﺎس ﴿‪﴾﴾۶‬‬ ‫ا ْﳉِﻨ ِﱠﺔ َواﻟﻨ ِ‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ِٰ ِ‬

‫ـﻚ‬ ‫ﲔ ﴿‪ ﴾۲‬اَﻟ ـ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬‫ب اﻟ َْﻌــﺎﻟَ ِﻤ ْ َ‬
‫َر ِّ‬
‫ﻳَـ ْﻮِم اﻟ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ ﴿‪﴾۴‬‬

Cherisher of mankind;
2 Malikin nās. 2 The King (or Ruler)
of mankind;
3 Ilāhin nās. 3 The God (or Judge)
of mankind;
4 Min sharril waswāsil 4 From the mischief of
khannās. the whisperer (of evil),
who withdraws (after
his whisper);
5 Alladhī yuwaswisu fī 5 (The whisperer) who
ṣudūrin nās. whispers into the
hearts of mankind;
6 Minal jinnati wannās. 6 From among jinn
[Sūrah Al-Nās (114), Āyāt 1-6] and men.

‫ـﲑ‬ ‫ط اﻟﱠ ِـﺬﻳْ َﻦ اَﻧْـ َﻌ ْﻤ َ‬ ‫ﺻَﺮا َ‬ ‫اﻟْﻤﺴﺘَِﻘْﻴِﻢ ﴿‪ِ ﴾۶‬‬
‫ُْ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫ﻀ ْﻮ ِ‬
‫ﲔ ﴿‪﴾﴾۷‬‬ ‫ب َﻋﻠَْﻴ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوَﻻ اﻟﻀﱠﺂﻟّْ َ‬ ‫اﻟ َْﻤﻐْ ُ‬
‫ﲔ‪‬‬ ‫ِ‬
‫‪‬آﻣ ْ َ‬
‫ﲪ ِﻦ اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ‬ ‫ﷲ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬ ‫ﺑِﺴ ِﻢ ِ‬
‫ْ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫ٓۤ‬
‫ﺐ ۖ ﻓِ ْﻴ ِﻪ ۚ ُﻫ ًﺪى‬ ‫ﻳ‬‫ر‬
‫ُ َْ َ‬ ‫ﻻ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ﺐ‬ ‫ﺘ‬‫ٰ‬ ‫ﻚ اﻟ ِ‬
‫ْﻜ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ﻟ‬ ‫ذ‬‫ٰ‬ ‫﴾‬ ‫‪۱‬‬ ‫﴿‬ ‫ﻢ‬‫﴿اﻟـ ّ‬
‫ـﲔ ﴿‪ ﴾۲‬اﻟﱠـ ـ ـ ِـﺬﻳْ َﻦ ﻳُـ ْﺆِﻣﻨُـ ـ ـ ـ ْـﻮ َن ِ ﻟْﻐَْﻴ ـ ـ ـ ِ‬
‫ـﺐ‬ ‫ﻟِّﻠ ِ‬
‫ْﻤﺘﱠﻘ ـ ـ ـ ْ َ‬
‫ُ‬
‫ﺼ ٰﻠﻮةَ َوِﳑﱠﺎ َر َزﻗـْـ ٰﻨـ ُﻬ ْﻢ ﻳُـ ْﻨ ِﻔ ُﻘ ْـﻮ َن ﴿‪﴾۳‬‬ ‫َوﻳُِﻘ ْﻴ ُﻤ ْﻮ َن اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ـﻚ َوَﻣــﺂ اُﻧْـ ِﺰ َل‬ ‫َواﻟﱠـ ِـﺬﻳْ َﻦ ﻳُـ ْﺆِﻣﻨُ ـ ْـﻮ َن ِﲟَــﺂ اُﻧْـ ِﺰ َل اﻟَْﻴـ َ‬
‫ﻻ ِﺧ َﺮةِ ُﻫ ْﻢ ﻳُـ ْﻮﻗِﻨُـ ْﻮ َن ﴿‪﴾۴‬‬ ‫ﻚ َو ِ ْ ٰ‬ ‫ِﻣ ْﻦ ﻗَـ ْﺒﻠِ َ‬
‫ﺳﻮرة اﻟﻔﺎﲢﺔ )‪ :(١‬آ ت ‪٧-١‬‬

5 Iyyāka na‛budu wa 5 You alone do we worship,
iyyāka nasta‛īn. and to You alone do we
turn for help.
6 Ihdinaṣ ṣirāṭal mustaqīm. 6 Guide us to the Straight
Way.
7 Ṣirāṭalladhīna an‛amta 7 The Way of those on
‛alayhim, ghayril maghḍūbi whom You have bestowed
‛alayhim walaḍ ḍāllīn. Your Grace; not the way of
Āmīn those who have earned Your
[Sūrah Al-Fātiḥah (1), Āyāt anger, nor of those who
1-7] went astray. Āmīn [Sūrah
Al-Fātiḥah (1), Verses 1-7]

1 Alif Lām Mīm 1 Alif Lām Mīm.
2 Dhālikal kitābu lā rayba 2 This is the Book; in which
fīhi hudal lil muttaqīn. there is no uncertainty
(doubt).
3 Alladhīna yu’minūna bil 3 It is a Guide for the pious
ghaybi wa yuqīmūnaṣ believers, who believe in
ṣalāta wa mimmā the Unseen; and who are
razaqnāhum yunfiqūn. steadfast in prayer; and
who spend from that which
We have provided for them;
4 Walladhīna yu’minūna 4 And who believe in the
bimā unzila ilayka wa mā Revelation sent down to you
unzila min qablika wa (O Muḥammad), and that
bil’ākhirati hum yūqinūn. which were sent down prior
to you; and who firmly
believe in the Hereafter.

‫اﻟ ُْﻤ ْﻔﻠِ ُﺤ ْﻮ َن ﴿‪﴾﴾۵‬‬
‫ﲪ ِﻦ اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ‬ ‫ﺑِﺴ ِﻢ ِ‬
‫ﷲ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬ ‫ْ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ا ﱠﻻ ُﻫ َﻮ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ْﲪ ُ‬
‫ٰﻦ‬ ‫﴿ َوا ٰﳍُ ُﻜ ْﻢ ا ٰﻟﻪٌ ﱠواﺣ ٌﺪ ﱠﻻ ا ٰﻟﻪَ‬
‫اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ُﻢ ﴿‪﴾﴾۱۶۳‬‬

‫﴿اَ ُ َﻻ اِٰﻟـ ـ ـﻪَ اِﱠﻻ ُﻫ ـ ـ َـﻮج اَ ْﳊَـ ـ ﱡـﻰ اﻟْ َﻘﻴﱡـ ـ ـ ْـﻮ ُم‪َ ۵‬ﻻ‬
‫ْﺧـ ُﺬﻩُ ِﺳــﻨَﺔٌ ﱠوَﻻ ﻧَـ ْـﻮٌم ﻟَــﻪُ َﻣــﺎ ِﰱ اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫ﺴـ ٰـﻤ ٰﻮ ِ‬ ‫ط‬
‫ت‬ ‫َُ‬
‫ِ ۤ‬
‫ض َﻣ ْﻦ ذَا اﻟﱠ ِﺬ ْى ﻳَ ْﺸـ َﻔ ُﻊ ﻋ ْﻨـ َﺪﻩُ‬ ‫َوَﻣﺎ ِﰱ ْاﻻَ ْر‬
‫ِط‬

5 Ulā’ika ‛alā hudam 5 They are the people
mirrabbihim wa who are rightly-guided,
ulā’ika humul and the ones who will be
mufliḥūn. successful. [Sūrah Al-
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), Baqarah (2), Verses 1-5]

Bismillāhir raḥmānir Bismillāhir raḥmānir
raḥīm raḥīm
Wa ilāhukum ilāhuw Your God is One God.
wāḥid, lā ilāha illā There is no god but
huwar raḥmānur Him. He is the Most
raḥīm. Compassionate, Most
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), Merciful.
Āyah 163] [Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2),
Verse 163]

Allāhu lā ilāha illā Allāh! There is no god,
huwal ḥayyul qayyūm; but Him; the Ever-
lā ta’khudhuhū Living, the Self
sinatuw wa lā nawm; Subsisting, the Eternal
lahū mā fissamāwāti One. Neither slumber
wa mā fil’arḍ, man nor sleep can overtake
dhalladhī yashfa‛u Him. To Him belongs
‛indahū illā bi’idhnihī, whatsoever is in the
Heavens and
whatsoever is on the
earth. Who is there
that can intercede in
His Presence, except
by His Permission?

‫ـﲔ اَﻳْـ ـ ِـﺪﻳْ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوَﻣـ ــﺎ َﺧ ْﻠ َﻔ ُﻬ ـ ـ ْـﻢج َوَﻻ‬
‫ﻳَـ ْﻌﻠَـ ـ ُـﻢ َﻣـ ــﺎ ﺑَـ ـ ْ َ‬

‫ـﺂءج َو ِﺳ َـﻊ‬ ‫ﺷ‬
‫َ َ َ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﲟ‬‫ِ‬ ‫ﻻ‬ ‫ﱠ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﻪ‬ ‫ﺸ ْﻰء ّﻣ ْﻦ ﻋﻠْﻤ‬ ‫ُِﳛْﻴﻄُْﻮ َن ﺑ َ‬
‫ﺴ ـ ـ ـ ٰـﻤ ٰﻮ ِ‬‫ُﻛ ْﺮ ِﺳـ ـ ـ ـﻴﱡﻪُ اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫ط‬
‫ض َوَﻻ ﻳَـ ـ ـ ـ ُـﺆْو ُدﻩُ‬ ‫ت َو ْاﻻَ ْر َ‬
‫ِﺣ ْﻔﻈُُﻬ َﻤﺎج َو ُﻫ َﻮ اﻟ َْﻌﻠِ ﱡﻰ اﻟ َْﻌ ِﻈْﻴ ُﻢ ﴿‪﴾﴾۲۵۵‬‬

‫ضط َواِ ْن‬ ‫ت َوَﻣـﺎ ِﰱ ْاﻻَ ْر ِ‬ ‫ﺴ ٰﻤ ٰﻮ ِ‬‫﴿ِِّٰ َﻣﺎ ِﰱ اﻟ ﱠ‬


‫ﺗُـﺒ ـ ُﺪوا ﻣــﺎ ِ ۤﰱ اَﻧْـ ُﻔ ِﺴ ـ ُﻜﻢ اَو ُﲣْ ُﻔــﻮﻩُ ُﳛ ِ‬
‫ﺎﺳـ ْـﺒ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬ ‫ْ ْ ْ َ‬ ‫ْ ْ َ ْ‬
‫ۤ‬
‫ﷲ ﻓَـﻴَـ ْﻐ ِﻔ ـ ُـﺮ ﻟِ َﻤ ـ ْـﻦ ﻳﱠ َ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫ِ ِ ِط‬
‫ب َﻣ ـ ْـﻦ‬ ‫ﺸ ــﺎءُ َوﻳُـ َﻌـ ـ ّﺬ ُ‬ ‫ﺑ ــﻪ‬
‫ۤ ط‬
‫ﺷﻰ ٍء ﻗَ ِﺪﻳْ ٍﺮ ﴿‪﴾۲۸۴‬‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ٰ‬
‫ﺸﺎءُ َ ُ َ ُ ّ َ ْ‬
‫ﻞ‬ ‫ﻛ‬ ‫ﻰ‬ ‫ﻠ‬ ‫ﻋ‬ ‫ﷲ‬ ‫و‬ ‫ﻳﱠ َ‬

ya‛lamu mā bayna aydīhim He Knows what will
wa mā khalfahum, wa lā happen to them (His
yuḥīṭūna bishay’im min creatures) in this world,
‛ilmihī illā bimā shā’, and what will happen to
them in the Hereafter; nor
shall they comprehend
anything at all of His
Knowledge except as He
Wills.
wasi‛a kursiy yuhus His Throne extends over
samāwāti wal’arḍ, wa lā the Heavens and the earth,
ya’ūduhū ḥifẓuhumā, wa and guarding and
huwal ‛aliyyul ‛aẓīm. preserving it, does not
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), exhaust Him, for He is the
Āyah 255] Exalted, the All-Mighty.
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2),
Verse 255]

Lillāhi mā fissamāwāti To Allāh belongs all that is


wamā fil’arḍi, wa in tubdū in the Heavens and that is
mā fī anfusikum aw on earth. Whether you
tukhfūhu yuḥāsibkum disclose what is in your
bihillāh; fayaghfiru limay selves or conceal it, Allāh
yashā’u wa yu‛adh-dhibu will call you to account for
mayyashā, wallāhu ‛alā it. He will Forgive whom
kulli shay’in qadīr. He wishes and will Punish
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), whom He wishes; He has
Āyah 284] Power over all things.

‫َواﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺆِﻣﻨُـ ـ ـ ْـﻮ َنط ُﻛـ ـ ـﻞﱞ ٰا َﻣ ـ ـ َـﻦ ِ ِ َوَﻣ َﻶﺋِ َﻜﺘِ ـ ـ ِـﻪ‬
‫ـﲔ اَ َﺣ ـ ٍـﺪ ِّﻣ ـ ْـﻦ‬ ‫ِ ِﻗ ــﻒ‬
‫َوُﻛﺘُﺒِ ــﻪ َوُر ُﺳ ــﻠﻪ َﻻ ﻧُـ َﻔ ـ ِّـﺮ ُق ﺑَـ ْ َ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ﱡر ُﺳ ــﻠِ ِﻪ َوﻗَــﺎﻟُ ْﻮا َِﲰ ْﻌﻨَ ــﺎ َواَﻃَ ْﻌﻨَ ــﺎ ﻏُ ْﻔ َﺮاﻧَـ َ‬
‫ق‬ ‫ﻗ ــﻒ‬
‫ـﻚ‬
‫ﺼ ْﲑُ ﴿‪﴾۲۸۵‬‬ ‫ﻚ اﻟْﻤ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫َرﺑﱠـﻨَﺎ َواﻟَْﻴ َ َ‬
‫ﺴ ــﺎ اِﱠﻻ ُو ْﺳ ـ َـﻌ َﻬﺎ ط َﳍَــﺎ َﻣ ــﺎ‬
‫ً‬ ‫ﻔ‬

‫ﺖ ط َرﺑﱠـﻨَ ـ ــﺎ َﻻ‬ ‫ﺴ ـ ــﺒَ ْ‬‫ﺖ َو َﻋﻠَْﻴـ َﻬ ـ ــﺎ َﻣﺎا ْﻛﺘَ َ‬ ‫ﺴ ـ ــﺒَ ْ‬

‫ۤ‬ ‫ِ ۤ‬
‫اﺧـ ـ ْﺬ َ اِ ْن ﻧَ ِﺴـ ـ ْﻴـﻨَﺎ اَ ْو اَ ْﺧﻄَـ ـﺎْ َ ج َرﺑﱠـﻨَ ــﺎ َوَﻻ‬ ‫ﺗُـ َﺆ‬
‫ﺻـ ًـﺮا َﻛ َﻤـﺎ َﲪَﻠْﺘَــﻪُ َﻋﻠَــﻰ اﻟﱠـ ِـﺬﻳْ َﻦ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ـﻞ َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَــﺎ ا ْ‬
‫َﲢْﻤـ ْ‬
‫ِِج‬
‫ِﻣ ْﻦ ﻗَـْﺒﻠِﻨَﺎ ج َرﺑﱠـﻨَﺎ َوَﻻ ُﲢَ ِّﻤﻠْﻨَﺎ َﻣﺎ َﻻ ﻃَﺎﻗَﺔَ ﻟَﻨَﺎ ﺑﻪ‬
‫ﺳﻮرة اﻟﺒﻘﺮة )‪ :(٢‬آﻳﺔ ‪٢٨٥‬‬

Āmanar rasūlu bimā The Messenger
unzila ilayhi mirrabbihī (Muḥammad) believes in
wal mu’minūn, kullun what has been revealed to
āmana billāhi wa him from his Lord, and (so
malā’ikatihī wa do) the believers. They all
kutubihī wa rusulihī, lā believe in His Angels, His
nufarriqu bayna aḥadim Books and His Messengers.
mirrusulih, wa qālū They say: “We do not
sami‛nā wa aṭa‛nā, differentiate between any of
ghufrānaka rabbanā wa His Messengers. We hear
ilaykal maṣīr. and we obey. We ask You
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), forgiveness our Lord, and
Āyah 285]
to You will we all return.
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), Āyah 285]
Lā yukalliful lāhu Allāh will not burden any
nafsan illā wus‛ahā, soul with more than what it
lahā mā kasabat wa can bear. It shall be
‛alayhā maktasabat, compensated for whatever
rabbanā lā tu’ākhidhnā good it has done, and it will
in nasīnā aw akhṭa’nā, be punished for whatever
rabbanā walā taḥmil evil it has done. (Pray:)
‛alaynā iṣran kamā “Our Lord! Do not take us
ḥamaltahū ‛alalladhīna to task if we forget or make
min qablinā, rabbanā a mistake. Our Lord! Do
walā tuḥammilnā mā lā not place on us a burden
ṭāqata lanā bihī, like that which you have
placed on those before us!
Our Lord! Do not place on
us a burden that we do not
have the strength to bear!

‫ـﻒ َﻋﻨﱠــﺎ َوا ْﻏ ِﻔـ ْـﺮ ﻟَﻨَــﺎ َو ْار َﲪْﻨَــﺎ اَﻧْـ َ‬
‫ـﺖ‬ ‫َوا ْﻋـ ُ‬
‫وﻗﻔــﺔ‬ ‫وﻗﻔــﺔ‬ ‫وﻗﻔــﺔ‬

‫ﺼ ْﺮَ َﻋﻠَﻰ اﻟْ َﻘ ْﻮِم اﻟ ْٰﻜ ِﻔ ِﺮﻳْ َﻦ ﴿‪﴾﴾۲۸۶‬‬ ‫َﻣ ْﻮٰﻟﻨَﺎ ﻓَﺎﻧْ ُ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ﷲ وﺑـﺮَﻛﺎﺗُــﻪُ َﻋﻠَـ ْـﻴ ُﻜﻢ أ َْﻫ ــﻞ اﻟْﺒـْﻴ ـ ِ‬
‫ـﺖ إِﻧﱠــﻪُ‬ ‫ْ َ َ‬ ‫َر ْﲪَ ـﺔُ َ َ َ‬
‫ِ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ ِ‬
‫ﺐ َﻋ ـْﻨ ُﻜ ُﻢ‬‫َﲪْﻴ ـ ٌﺪ ﱠﳎْﻴ ـ ٌﺪ٭ ﴿ا ﱠﳕـَـﺎ ﻳُِﺮﻳْـ ُﺪ ﷲُ ﻟﻴُـ ْﺬﻫ َ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ﲑا ﴿‪﴾﴾۳۳‬‬ ‫ﺲ اَ ْﻫ َﻞ اﻟْﺒَـْﻴﺖ َوﻳُﻄَِّﻬ َﺮُﻛ ْﻢ ﺗَﻄْ ِﻬ ْ ً‬ ‫ِّ‬
‫اﻟﺮ ْﺟ َ‬
‫ﺼـ ـﻠﱡ ْﻮ َن َﻋﻠَ ــﻰ اﻟﻨﱠ ـ ِ ِّ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ـﱮ‪،‬‬ ‫﴿ا ﱠن ﷲَ َوَﻣ َﻶﺋ َﻜﺘَ ــﻪُ ﻳُ َ‬
‫ۤ‬
‫ﺻ ـﻠﱡ ْﻮا َﻋﻠَْﻴـ ِـﻪ َو َﺳـ ـﻠِّ ُﻤ ْﻮا‬ ‫ا‬‫ـﻮ‬ ‫ـ‬
‫ْ َ َُ ْ َ‬‫ـ‬ ‫ﻨ‬ ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ٰ‬
‫ا‬ ‫ﻦ‬‫ﻳ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ـﺬ‬ ‫ـ‬‫ﱠ‬‫ﻟ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ـﺎ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻬ‬‫ـ‬‫ﱡ‬
‫َ َ‬‫ﻳ‬‫ا‬
‫َ‬
‫ﺗَ ْﺴﻠِ ْﻴ ًﻤﺎ ﴿‪﴾﴾۵۶‬‬
‫ﺳﻮرة اﻟﺒﻘﺮة )‪ :(٢‬آﻳﺔ ‪٢٨٦‬‬

wa‛fu ‛annā, waghfir lanā, Pardon us, and grant us
warḥamnā, anta mawlanā forgiveness; and have
fanṣurnā ‛alal qawmil Mercy on us. You are our
kāfirīn. Protector; so grant us
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2), victory over the
Āyāt 284-286] disbelieving people.”

Raḥmatullāhi wa May Allāh’s Mercy and


barakātuhū ‛alaykum ahlal Blessings be upon the
bayti innahū ḥamīdum members of the Prophet’s
majīd, family. Indeed, He is All
Praiseworthy, Most
Splendid.

Innamā yurīdullāhu O you members of the


liyudh-hiba ‛ankumur rijsa Prophet’s family, God
ahlal bayti wa yuṭah- only wishes to remove all
hirakum taṭhīrā, abomination from you,
[Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb (33), and to cleanse and purify
Āyah 33] you. [Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb
(33), Verse 33]
Verily, Allāh and His
Innallāha wa malā’ikatahū Angels send Salutations
yuṣallūna ‛alan nabiy, yā upon the Prophet; O you
ayyuhalladhīna āmanū who believe, send
ṣallū ‛alayhi wa sallimū Salutations and Peace
taslīmā. [Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb upon him. [Sūrah Al-
(33), Āyah 56] Aḥzāb (33), Verse 56]

‫ْ‬ ‫َ‬
‫أ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ـﻞ‬
‫َ ّ‬‫ـ‬ ‫ﺻ‬ ‫ﻢ‬
‫ﱠ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻬ‬
‫ُ‬ ‫ﻠ‬

‫ﷲ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ ٭ َو َﻋ ٰﻠ ـﻰ ٰاﻟِـ ِـﻪ‬‫ـﺐ ِ‬ ‫ـﻚ َﺣﺒِْﻴـ ِ‬ ‫َﳐْﻠُ ْﻮﻗَﺎﺗِـ َ‬
‫اد‬ ‫وﺻــﺤﺒِ ِﻪ وﺳ ـﻠِّﻢ ٭ ﻋ ـ َﺪد ﻣﻌﻠُﻮﻣﺎﺗِـ َ ِ‬
‫ـﻚ َوﻣ ـ َﺪ َ‬ ‫َ َ ْ َ َ ْ َ َ َْ َْ‬
‫ـﻞ‬ ‫ﱠ ِ‬ ‫َﻛﻠِ َﻤﺎﺗِـ َ ﱠ‬
‫ـﻚ ُﻛﻠ َﻤ ــﺎ ذَ َﻛ ـ َـﺮ َك اﻟـ ـﺬاﻛ ُﺮْو َن َوﻏَ َﻔ ـ َ‬
‫ن٭‬‫َﻋ ْﻦ ِذ ْﻛ ِﺮ َك اﻟْﻐَﺎﻓِﻠُ ْﻮ َ‬

‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫اَﻟ ٰﻠّﻬـ ـ ﱠﻢ ﺻ ـ ِـﻞ وﺳـ ـﻠِّﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ ﺳ ــﻴِ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠ ٍ‬
‫ﻤ ــﺪ ٭‬ ‫َّ‬ ‫ُ َ ََّ ْ‬
‫ٍ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﺻـ ـﻠﱠْﻴ َ‬
‫ﺖ‬ ‫)ﺳ ــﻴِّﺪ َ ( ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ــﺪ ٭ َﻛ َﻤ ــﺎ َ‬ ‫َو َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ ٰا ِل َ‬
‫)ﺳ ــﻴِّ ِﺪ َ (‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ ِ‬
‫)ﺳ ــﻴِّﺪ َ ( إِﺑْـ ـ َـﺮاﻫْﻴ َﻢ َو َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ ٰا ِل َ‬
‫َ‬
‫)ﺳـ ـ ــﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ( ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـ ـ ـ ٍـﺪ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫إِﺑْ ـ ـ ـ َـﺮاﻫْﻴ َﻢ ٭ َوَ ِر ْك َﻋ ٰﻠ ـ ـ ـﻰ َ‬
‫و َﻋ ٰﻠﻰ ٰا ِل )ﺳﻴِ ِﺪ َ ( ُﳏَ ﱠ ٍ‬
‫ﻤﺪ ٭‬ ‫َّ‬ ‫َ‬
‫‪43‬‬
Allāhumma ṣalli O Allāh! Bestow the
afḍala ṣalawāti ‛alā Best of Blessings upon
as‛adi makhlūqātika the Best of Your
ḥabībillāhi Creation: Your
Muḥammad, wa ‛alā Beloved Muḥammad;
ālihī wa ṣaḥbihī wa and Peace upon his
sallim, ‛adada family and his
ma‛lūmātika wa Companions. Equal to

dhākirūna wa ghafala of the significance of
‛an dhikrikal ghāfilūn. Your Eternal Words,
everytime You are

‫ـﻚ ٭ ُﻛﻠﱠ َﻤ ــﺎ‬ ‫اد َﻛﻠِ َﻤﺎﺗِ ـ َ‬ ‫وِزﻧَـ ـﺔَ ﻋﺮ ِﺷ ـ َ ِ‬
‫ـﻚ ٭ َوﻣـ ـ َﺪ َ‬ ‫َ َْ‬

‫ـﺎر َك َوﺗَـ َﻌ ـ ـ ٰـﺎﱃ َﻋ ـ ـ ْـﻦ‬ ‫ِ ِ‬
‫َو َﺳـ ـ ـﻠّ ْﻢ َوَرﺿـ ـ ـ َـﻰ ﷲُ ﺗَـﺒَـ ـ ـ َ‬
‫ﷲأِْ‬ ‫ﺎب رﺳ ـ ـ ــﻮِل ِ‬
‫ـﲔ ٭ َو ُﻫ ـ ـ ـ َـﻮ‬ ‫َﲨَﻌ ـ ـ ـ ْ َ‬ ‫ـﺤ ِ َ ُ ْ‬ ‫َﺻ ـ ـ ـ َ‬
‫أْ‬
‫ـﻞ ٭ َوَﻻ َﺣ ْـﻮ َل َوَﻻ ﻗُـ ﱠـﻮَة‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫َﺣ ْﺴـﺒُـﻨَﺎ َوﻧ ْﻌ َـﻢ اﻟ َْﻮﻛ ْﻴـ ُ‬
‫إِﱠﻻ ِ ِ اﻟْﻌﻠِ ِﻰ اﻟ ِ‬
‫ْﻌﻈ ْﻴ ِﻢ ٭‬ ‫َ ّ َ‬

kamā bārakta ‛alā The same way as You
sayyidinā Ibrāhīm wa have showered Blessings
‛alā āli sayyidinā upon Ibrāhīm and the
Ibrāhīm, fil‛ālamīna, family of Ibrāhīm, in the
innaka ḥamīdum Worlds. You are All-
majīd. Praiseworthy, Most
Splendid.

‛Adada khalqika wa Equal to the number which


riḍā nafsika, wa zinata You Created and the
‛arshika, wa midāda Contentment of Yourself,
kalimātika, kullamā and the Beauty of Your
dhakarakadh dhākirūn, Throne, and the ink of the
wa ghafala ‛an meaning of Your Eternal
dhikrikal ghāfilūn. Words; everytime the
mindful remembers You
and the heedless forgets
You.

Wa sallim wa May Allāh, the Blessed
raḍiyallāhu tabāraka and Exalted, shower His
wa ta‛ālā ‛an aṣḥābi Peace and Favours on all
rasūlillāhi ajma‛īn, wa the Messenger’s
huwa ḥasbunā wa Companions. And He is
ni‛mal wakīl, wa lā Sufficient for us and in
ḥawla wa lā quwwata Him do we put our trust.
illā billāhil ‛aliyyil There is no Power nor
‛aẓīm. Strength save that of
Allāh, the Exalted, the
Mighty.

‫٭‬ ‫اَ ْﺳﺘَـ ْﻐﻔ ُﺮ ﷲَ ٭ اَ ْﺳﺘَـ ْﻐﻔ ُﺮ ﷲَ ٭ اَ ْﺳﺘَـ ْﻐﻔ ُﺮ ﷲَ‬
‫ﻀ َﻞ اﻟ ِّﺬ ْﻛ ِﺮ َﺣﻘﺎ‪.‬‬ ‫ﻓَﺎ ْﻋﻠَ ُﻤ ْﻮا أَ ﱠن أَﻓْ َ‬

‫َﻻ إِٰﻟﻪَ إِﱠﻻ ﷲُ ‪َ :‬ﺣ ﱞﻰ ﱠﻣ ْﻮ ُﺟ ْﻮ ٌد‬

‫َﻻ إِٰﻟﻪَ إِﱠﻻ ﷲُ ‪َ :‬ﺣ ﱡﻰم َ ﻗِ ْﻰ‬

Astaghfirullāha, I seek Allāh’s
astaghfirullāha, Forgiveness; I seek
astaghfirullāha, Allāh’s Forgiveness; I
seek Allāh’s Forgiveness.

Fa‛lamū anna Know that in truth: the


afḍaladh-dhikri ḥaq, best way is to Remember
Him,
Lā ilāha illallāhu: There is none worthy of
ḥayyum mawjūd, worship except Allāh; the
Ever-Living, the Exalted.
Lā ilāha illallāhu: There is none worthy of
ḥayyum bāqī, worship except Allāh; the
Ever-Living, the Eternal
(Everlasting).
Lā ilāha illallāhu: There is none worthy of
ḥayyum maqṣūd, worship except Allāh; the
Ever-Living, the One
with Intent.
Lā ilāha illallāhu: There is none worthy of
ḥayyulladhī lā yanāmu worship except Allāh; the
wa lā yamūtu, Ever-Living, the One
Who does not sleep, and
the One Who does not
die.

‫ـﺚ إِ ْن‬ ‫ت ٭ َو َﻋﻠَْﻴـ َﻬ ــﺎ َوَِــﺎ ﻧُـ ْﺒـ َﻌ ـ ُ‬ ‫َو َﻋﻠَْﻴـ َﻬ ــﺎ َﳕُـ ْـﻮ ُ‬
‫ـﲔ ﺑِﺮ ْﲪ ـ ـ ِـﺔ ِ‬ ‫َﺷ ـ ــﺂء ﷲ ﺗَـﻌ ـ ـ ٰـﺎﱃ ِﻣ ـ ــﻦ ْ ٰ ِ‬
‫ﷲ‬ ‫اﻻﻣﻨِـ ـ ْ ِ َ َ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫َ ُ َ‬
‫وَ ِ ِ‬
‫ﻛ َﺮﻣﻪ٭‬ ‫َ‬

‫َﺟـ َـﺰا ﷲُ َﻋﻨﱠــﺎ َﺳــﻴِّ َﺪ َ َوﻧَﺒِﻴﱠـﻨَــﺎ َوَﻣـ ْـﻮَﻻ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ـ ًﺪا‬
‫ـﲑام ِﲟَـﺎ ُﻫ َـﻮ أ َْﻫﻠُـﻪُ‪.‬‬ ‫ِ ﱠ‬ ‫َﱠ‬
‫ﺻﻠﻰ ﷲُ َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻪ َو َﺳـﻠ َﻢ َﺧ ْ ً‬

Lā ilāha illallāhu There is none worthy
Muḥammadur of worship except
rasūlullāhi ṣallallāhu Allāh and Muḥammad
‛alayhi wa sallama, is Allāh’s Messenger.
kalimatu ḥaqqin This is the Truth. By
‛alayhā naḥyā wa this Truth will we live
‛alayhā namūtu, wa and by this Truth will
‛alayhā nub‛athu we die; and with this
inshā-allāhu ta‛ālā Truth will we be
minal āminīna peacefully resurrected.
biraḥmatillāhi wa This can only happen
karamihī. through His Mercy
and Generosity (and if
He Allāh the Exalted,
so Wills).

Jazallāhu ‛annā May Allāh Reward
sayyidanā wa our master
nabiyyanā wa Muḥammad, may
mawlānā Allāh’s Peace and
Muḥammadan Blessings be upon
ṣallallāhu ‛alayhi wa him, our master, our
sallama khayram bimā Prophet and our
huwa ahluhū. guardian, with all the
(3 times) goodness that he
deserves. (3 times)

‫اﻟ ﱠﺮ ِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ ﴿‪﴾۱‬‬‫ﲪ ِﻦ‬ ‫ﷲ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬‫﴿ﺑِﺴ ِﻢ ِ‬

‫ﲪ ِﻦ اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ‬

‫اَ ْﳊَ ْﻤ ُﺪ ّٰ َر ِّ‬
‫ﻚ ﻳَـ ْﻮِم اﻟ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ ﴿‪ ﴾۴‬اِ ﱠ َك ﻧَـ ْﻌﺒُ ُﺪ َواِ ﱠ َك‬ ‫﴿‪ٰ ﴾۳‬ﻣﻠِ ِ‬
‫ﺴﺘَ ِﻘ ْﻴ َﻢ ﴿‪﴾۶‬‬ ‫ِ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ط اﻟ ُْﻤ ْ‬ ‫ﲔ ﴿‪ ﴾۵‬ا ْﻫﺪ َ ٱ ِّ‬
‫ﻟﺼ َﺮا َ‬ ‫ﻧَ ْﺴﺘَﻌ ْ ُ‬
‫ﺖ َﻋﻠَْﻴ ِﻬ ْﻢ ۙ‪ ۵‬ﻏَ ِْﲑ‬ ‫ط اﻟﱠ ِﺬﻳْ َﻦ أَﻧْـ َﻌ ْﻤ َ‬ ‫ﺻ َﺮا َ‬‫ِ‬

‫ﲔ ﴿‪﴾﴾۷‬‬ ‫ب َﻋﻠَْﻴ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوَﻻ اﻟﻀﱠﺂﻟّ ْ َ‬ ‫اﻟ َْﻤ ْﻐ ُ‬

A‛ūdhu billāhi I seek refuge with
minash shayṭānir Allāh from the
rajīm. accursed Satan.

1 Bismillāhir 1 In the Name of Allāh,


raḥmānir raḥīm Most Compassionate,
Most Merciful.
2 Alḥamdulillāhi 2 All Praise be to Allāh,
rabbil ‛ālamīn. Lord of the Universe;
3 Arraḥmānir raḥīm. 3 Most Compassionate,
Most Merciful;
4 Māliki yawmid dīn. 4 Lord of the Day of
Judgement.
5 Iyyāka na‛budu wa 5 You alone do we
iyyāka nasta‛īn. worship, and to You
alone do we turn for
help.
6 Ihdinaṣ ṣirāṭal 6 Guide us to the
mustaqīm. Straight Way.
7 Ṣirāṭalladhīna 7 The Way of those on
an‛amta ‛alayhim, whom You have
ghayril maghḍūbi bestowed Your Grace;
‛alayhim walaḍ ḍāllīn. not the way of those
Āmīn who have earned your
[Sūrah Al-Fātiḥah (1), anger, nor of those who
Āyāt 1-7] went astray.1 Āmīn

‫﴿اَ ُ َﻻ اِٰﻟ ـ ـﻪَ اِﱠﻻ ُﻫـ ـ َـﻮج اَ ْﳊـَـ ﱡـﻰ اﻟْ َﻘﻴﱡ ـ ـ ْـﻮ ُم ‪ۙ ۵‬‬
‫َﻻ َْ ُﺧـ ـ ـ ـ ُﺬﻩُ ِﺳ ـ ـ ــﻨَﺔٌ ﱠوَﻻ ﻧَـ ـ ـ ـ ْـﻮٌمط ﻟَ ـ ـ ــﻪُ َﻣ ـ ـ ــﺎ ِﰱ‬
‫ضط َﻣ ـ ْـﻦ ذَا اﻟﱠ ـ ِـﺬ ْى‬ ‫ت َوَﻣ ــﺎ ِﰱ ْاﻷ َْر ِ‬ ‫ﺴ ـ ٰـﻤ ٰﻮ ِ‬
‫اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫ِ ﱠ ِِ ِ ِ ط‬
‫ِ ۤ‬
‫ـﲔ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﺑ‬ ‫ـﺎ‬

‫َ‬ ‫ﻌ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻳ‬ ‫ـﻪ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻧ‬‫ذ‬ ‫ﻻ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ﻳَ ْﺸ ـ ـ َﻔ ُﻊ ﻋ ْﻨـ ـ ـ َﺪ ُ‬
‫ﻩ‬
‫ﺸـ ْـﻰ ٍء‬ ‫اَﻳْـ ِـﺪﻳْ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوَﻣــﺎ َﺧ ْﻠ َﻔ ُﻬـ ْـﻢج َوَﻻ ُِﳛ ْﻴﻄُـ ْـﻮ َن ﺑِ َ‬
‫ـﺂءج َو ِﺳ ـ ـ َـﻊ ُﻛ ْﺮ ِﺳـ ـ ـﻴﱡ ُﻪ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﺷ‬
‫َ‬ ‫ـﺎ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ـ‬‫َ‬‫ﲟ‬‫ِّﻣـ ـ ْـﻦ ِﻋﻠ ِْﻤ ـ ـ ِۤـﻪ اِﱠﻻ ِ‬

‫ضط َوَﻻ ﻳَـ ُـﺆْو ُدﻩُ ِﺣ ْﻔﻈُ ُﻬ َﻤــﺎ‬ ‫ت َو ْاﻷ َْر َ‬ ‫ﺴـ ٰـﻤ ٰﻮ ِ‬
‫اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫َو ُﻫ َﻮ اﻟ َْﻌﻠِ ﱡﻰ اﻟ َْﻌ ِﻈ ْﻴ ُﻢ ﴿‪﴾﴾۲۵۵‬‬

‫ﻮرةُ اﻟْﺒَـ َﻘ َﺮة )‪ ،(٢‬آﻳﺔ ‪٢٥٥‬‬


‫ُﺳ َ‬
‫‪55‬‬
Allāhu lā ilāha illā Allāh! There is no god,
huwal ḥayyul qayyūm; but Him; the Ever-
lā ta’khudhuhū Living, the Self
sinatuw wa lā nawm; Subsisting, the Eternal
lahū mā fissamāwāti One. Neither slumber
wa mā fil’arḍ, man nor sleep can overtake
dhalladhī yashfa‛u Him. To Him belongs
‛indahū illā bi’idhnihī, whatsoever is in the
ya‛lamu mā bayna Heavens and whatsoever
aydīhim wa mā is on the earth. Who is
khalfahum, wa lā there that can intercede
yuḥīṭūna bishay’im in His Presence, except
min ‛ilmihī illā bimā by His permission? He
shā’, wasi‛a kursiy Knows what will happen
yuhus samāwāti to them (His creatures)
wal’arḍ, wa lā in this world, and what
ya’ūduhū ḥifẓuhumā, will happen to them in
wa huwal ‛aliyyul the Hereafter; nor shall
‛aẓīm. they comprehend
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah anything at all of His
(2), Āyah 255] Knowledge except as He
Wills. His Throne
extends over the
Heavens and the earth,
and guarding and
preserving it, does not
exhaust Him, for He is
the Exalted, the All-
Mighty.2 [Sūrah Al-
Baqarah (2), Verse 255]

‫ﺎﺳـ ْـﺒ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬ ‫ﺗُـﺒ ـ ُﺪوا ﻣــﺎ ِ ۤﰱ اَﻧْـ ُﻔ ِﺴ ـ ُﻜﻢ اَو ُﲣْ ُﻔــﻮﻩُ ُﳛ ِ‬
‫ْ ْ ْ َ‬ ‫ْ ْ َ ْ‬
‫ۤ‬
‫ب َﻣ ـ ْـﻦ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﺸ ــﺎءُ َوﻳُـ َﻌـ ـ ّﺬ ُ‬ ‫ﷲط ﻓَـﻴَـ ْﻐ ِﻔ ـ ُـﺮ ﻟِ َﻤ ـ ْـﻦ ﻳﱠ َ‬ ‫ﺑِـ ِـﻪ ِ‬
‫ـﺪﻳْ ٍﺮ ﴿‪﴾۲۸۴‬‬ ‫ﺸ ـ ۤـﺎءط وﷲ َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ ُﻛ ـ ِـﻞ َﺷـ ـﻰ ٍء ﻗَ ـ ِ‬
‫ّ ْ‬ ‫ﻳﱠ َ ُ َ ُ‬
‫ٰا َﻣ ـ ـ َـﻦ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ُﺳ ـ ـ ْـﻮ ُل ِﲟَـ ــﺂ اُﻧْـ ـ ـ ِﺰ َل اِﻟَْﻴ ـ ـ ِـﻪ ِﻣ ـ ـ ْـﻦ ﱠرﺑِّـ ـ ِـﻪ‬
‫َواﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺆِﻣﻨُـ ـ ـ ْـﻮ َنط ُﻛ ـ ـ ـﻞﱞ ٰا َﻣ ـ ـ َـﻦ ِ ِ َوَﻣ َﻶﺋِ َﻜﺘِـ ـ ـ ِـﻪ‬
‫ـﲔ اَ َﺣ ـ ٍـﺪ ِّﻣ ـ ْـﻦ‬ ‫ِ ِﻗ ــﻒ‬
‫َوُﻛﺘُﺒِ ــﻪ َوُر ُﺳ ــﻠﻪ َﻻ ﻧُـ َﻔ ـ ِّـﺮ ُق ﺑَـ ْ َ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ﻚ َرﺑﱠـﻨَﺎ‬ ‫ﱡر ُﺳﻠِ ِﻪ َوﻗَﺎﻟُ ْﻮا َِﲰ ْﻌﻨَﺎ َواَﻃَ ْﻌﻨَﺎ ﻏُ ْﻔ َﺮاﻧَ َ‬
‫ق‬ ‫ﻗـﻒ‬

‫ﺼ ْﲑُ ﴿‪﴾۲۸۵‬‬ ‫ﻚ اﻟْﻤ ِ‬ ‫ﻴ‬‫َ‬‫ﻟ‬ ‫واِ‬


‫َ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ْ‬ ‫َ‬

Lillāhi mā fissamāwāti To Allāh belongs all that is
wamā fil’arḍi, wa in in the Heavens and that is
tubdū mā fī anfusikum on earth. Whether you
aw tukhfūhu disclose what is in your
yuḥāsibkum bihillāh; selves or conceal it, Allāh
fayaghfiru limay will call you to account for
yashā’u wa yu‛adh- it. He will forgive whom
dhibu mayyashā, He wishes and will punish
wallāhu ‛alā kulli whom He wishes; He has
shay’in qadīr. Power over all things.

Āmanar rasūlu bimā The Messenger


unzila ilayhi (Muḥammad) believes in
mirrabbihī wal what has been revealed to
mu’minūn, kullun him from his Lord, and (so
āmana billāhi wa do) the believers. They all
malā’ikatihī wa believe in His Angels, His
kutubihī wa rusulihī, Books and His
lā nufarriqu bayna Messengers. They say:
aḥadim mirrusulih, wa “We do not differentiate
qālū sami‛nā wa between any of His
aṭa‛nā, ghufrānaka Messengers. We hear and
rabbanā wa ilaykal we obey. We ask You for
maṣīr. forgiveness our Lord, and
to You will we all return.3/4

‫ﺖط َرﺑﱠـﻨَـ ــﺎ َﻻ‬ ‫ﺴـ ــﺒَ ْ‬
‫ﺖ َو َﻋﻠَْﻴـ َﻬـ ــﺎ َﻣـ ــﺎ ا ْﻛﺘَ َ‬ ‫ﺴـ ــﺒَ ْ‬
‫َﻛ َ‬
‫ۤ‬ ‫ِ ۤ‬
‫اﺧـ ـ ْﺬ َ اِ ْن ﻧﱠ ِﺴـ ـ ْﻴـﻨَﺎ اَ ْو اَ ْﺧﻄَـ ـﺎْ َ ج َرﺑﱠـﻨَ ــﺎ َوَﻻ‬ ‫ﺗُـ َﺆ‬
‫ﺻـ ًـﺮا َﻛ َﻤــﺎ َﲪَﻠْﺘَــﻪُ َﻋﻠَــﻰ اﻟﱠـ ِـﺬﻳْ َﻦ‬ ‫َﲢْ ِﻤــﻞ ﻋﻠَﻴـﻨـ ۤـﺎ اِ‬
‫ْ َ َْ ْ‬
‫ِﻣ ْﻦ ﻗَـ ْﺒﻠِﻨَﺎ ج َرﺑﱠـﻨَﺎ َوَﻻ ُﲢَ ِّﻤﻠْﻨَﺎ َﻣ َﺎﻻﻃَﺎﻗَﺔَ ﻟَﻨَﺎ ﺑِ ِـﻪ‬
‫ﺖ‬‫ﻒ َﻋﻨﱠﺎ َوا ْﻏ ِﻔ ْﺮﻟَﻨَﺎ َو ْار َﲪْﻨَﺎ اَﻧْ َ‬ ‫ج َوا ْﻋ ُ‬
‫وﻗﻔـﺔ‬ ‫وﻗﻔﺔ‬ ‫وﻗﻔﺔ‬

‫ْﻜ ِﻔ ِﺮﻳْ َﻦ ﴿‪﴾﴾۲۸۶‬‬ ‫ﺼ ْﺮَ َﻋﻠَﻰ اﻟْ َﻘ ْﻮِم اﻟ ٰ‬ ‫َﻣ ْﻮٰﻟﻨَﺎ ﻓَﺎﻧْ ُ‬

‫ﻮرةُ اﻟْﺒَـ َﻘ َﺮة )‪ ،(٢‬آ ت ‪٢٨٦-٢٨٤‬‬

Lā yukalliful lāhu Allāh will not burden any
nafsan illā wus‛ahā, soul with more than what
lahā mā kasabat wa it can bear. It shall be
‛alayhā maktasabat, compensated for
rabbanā lā whatever good it has
tu’ākhidhnā in nasīnā done, and it will be
aw akhṭa’nā, punished for whatever
rabbanā walā taḥmil evil it has done. (Pray:)
‛alaynā iṣran kamā “Our Lord! Do not take
ḥamaltahū us to task if we forget or
‛alalladhīna min make a mistake. Our
qablinā, rabbanā Lord, do not place on us
walā tuḥammilnā mā a burden like that which
lā ṭāqata lanā bihī, you have placed on those
wa‛fu ‛annā, waghfir before us! Our Lord, do
lanā, warḥamnā, not place on us a burden
anta mawlanā that we do not have the
fanṣurnā ‛alal strength to bear! Pardon
qawmil kāfirīn. us, and grant us
[Sūrah Al-Baqarah forgiveness; and have
(2), Āyāt 284-286] Mercy on us. You are our
Protector; so grant us
victory over the
disbelieving people.” 3/4

‫ﺖ‪َ ،‬و ُﻫ َـﻮ َﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ‬ ‫ﲕ َوُﳝِْﻴ ُ‬ ‫ْﻚ َوﻟَﻪُ ا ْﳊَ ْﻤ ُﺪ ُْﳛِ ْ‬
‫اﻟ ُْﻤﻠ ُ‬
‫ُﻛ ِّﻞ َﺷ ْﻰ ٍء ﻗَ ِﺪﻳْـ ٌﺮ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬

‫ﷲ ‪َ ،‬وا ْﳊَ ْﻤ ـ ـ ـ ُﺪ ِِّٰ ‪َ ،‬وَﻻ إِٰﻟ ـ ـ ـﻪَ إِﱠﻻ‬
‫ﺳـ ـ ــﺒﺤﺎ َن ِ‬
‫ُ َْ‬
‫ﷲُ‪َ ،‬وﷲُ أَ ْﻛ َﱪُ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ﷲ وِﲝﻤـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ِـﺪﻩِ ‪ ،‬ﺳ ـ ـ ـ ـ ــﺒﺤﺎ َن ِ‬
‫ﷲ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ُ َْ‬ ‫ُﺳـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ْـﺒ َﺤﺎ َن َ َ ْ‬
‫اﻟ َْﻌ ِﻈ ْﻴ ِﻢ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ـﺖ‬ ‫ـﺐ َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَــﺂ ‪ ،‬إِﻧﱠـ َ‬
‫ـﻚ أَﻧْـ َ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫َرﺑﱠـﻨَــﺎ ا ْﻏﻔ ـ ْـﺮ ﻟَﻨَــﺎ َوﺗُـ ْ‬
‫اب اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ُﻢ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬ ‫ﱠﻮ ُ‬‫اﻟﺘـ ﱠ‬

Lā ilāha illallāhu There is no true God
waḥdahū lā save Allāh; The One and
sharīkalahū, lahul Only. He has no
mulku wa lahul ḥamdu partner; All Sovereignity
yuḥyī wa yumīt, wa and all Praise are His.
huwa ‛alā kulli shay’in He gives life and causes
qadīr. death; And He has
(3 times) Power over all things.5

‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬
Subḥānallāhi, Glory be to Allāh, Praise
walḥamdu lillāhi, walā be to Allāh, there is none
ilāha illal lāhu, worthy of worship
wallāhu akbar. except Allāh. Allāh is
(3 times) the Greatest.6 (3 times)
‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬
Subḥānallāhi wa Glory be to Allāh, and
biḥamdihī, by Praising Him, I am
subḥānallāhil ‛aẓīm. Glorifying Him. Glory
(3 times) be to Allāh, the All-
Powerful, the All-
Mighty.7 (3 times)
‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬
Rabbanaghfirlanā wa O our Lord! Forgive us
tub ‛alaynā, innaka and accept our
antat tawwābur raḥīm. repentance, for You are
(3 times) the Most Relenting,
Most Merciful.8

‫ﱠ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻬ‬ ‫اَﻟ ٰﻠّﻬـ ﱠﻢ ﺻـ ِـﻞ ﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ ُﳏ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ ‪ ،‬اَﻟ ٰ‬

‫ّ‬
‫َ‬ ‫ُ‬ ‫ُ َّ َ َ‬
‫َو َﺳﻠِّ ْﻢ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬

‫ـﺎت ‪ِ ،‬ﻣ ْـﻦ َﺷـ ِّـﺮ َﻣــﺎ‬ ‫ـﺎت ِ‬
‫ﷲ اﻟﺘﱠﺂ ﱠﻣـ ِ‬ ‫َﻋـﻮذُ ﺑِ َﻜﻠِﻤـ ِ‬
‫َ‬ ‫أُْ‬
‫َﺧﻠَ َﻖ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ﻀـ ﱡﺮ َﻣ َـﻊ ا ِْﲰ ِـﻪ َﺷ ْـﻰءٌ ِﰲ‬ ‫ﺑِﺴ ِﻢ ِ‬
‫ﷲ اﻟﱠ ِـﺬ ْي َﻻ ﻳَ ُ‬ ‫ْ‬
‫ﺴ ـ ـ ـ ِـﻤ ْﻴ ُﻊ‬ ‫ﺴ ـ ـ ــﻤ ِ‬
‫ﺂء ‪َ ،‬و ُﻫ ـ ـ ـ َـﻮ اﻟ ﱠ‬ ‫ض َوَﻻ ِﰲ اﻟ ﱠ َ‬ ‫ْاﻷ َْر ِ‬
‫اﻟ َْﻌﻠِ ْﻴ ُﻢ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ﺿ ـ ْﻴـﻨَﺎ ِ ِ َر ﱠو ِ ِْﻹ ْﺳـ َـﻼِم ِدﻳْـﻨًــﺎ ‪َ ،‬وِﲟُ َﺤ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ‬
‫رِ‬
‫َ‬
‫ﻮﻻ ﻧﱠﺒِﻴﺎ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬ ‫ﱠر ُﺳ ً‬

Allāhumma ṣalli ‛alā O Allāh! Bestow
Muḥammad, Your Blessings on
Allāhumma ṣalli Muḥammad. O Allāh!
‛alayhi wa sallim. Bestow Peace and
(3 times) Blessings on him.9

‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

A‛ūdhu bikalimātil I seek refuge in the


lāhit tāmmāti, min Perfect Words of
sharri mā khalaq. Allāh, against the evil
(3 times) that He created.10

‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

Bismillāhilladhī lā In the Name of Allāh,


yaḍurru ma‛asmihī through His Name, no
shay’un fil’arḍi wa lā harm can be done on
fissamā’i, wa huwas earth or in heaven. He
samī‛ul ‛alīm. is the All-Hearing, the
(3 times) All-Knowing.11

‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

Raḍīnā billāhi rabbaw We accept and are


wa bil’islāmi dīnā, wa pleased with Allāh as
bimuḥammadin our Lord, with Islām
rasūlan nabiyyan. as our religion, and
(3 times) with Muḥammad as
our Prophet.12

‫اﳋَـ ـ ْـﲑُ َواﻟ ﱠ‬
‫ﺸ ـ ـ ﱡﺮ‬ ‫ﺑِﺴـ ـ ِـﻢ ِ‬

‫ﷲ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬ ‫ِﲟَ ِﺸﻴـﺌَ ِﺔ ِ‬
‫ْ‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫آﻣﻨﱠ ـ ــﺎ ِ ِ واﻟْﻴـ ـ ــﻮِم ْاﻵ ِﺧـ ـ ـ ِﺮ ‪ ،‬ﺗُـﺒـﻨَ ـ ـ ۤـﺎ إِ َﱃ ِ‬
‫ﷲ‬ ‫ْ‬ ‫َ َ ْ‬ ‫َ‬
‫ﺎﻫ ًﺮا‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬ ‫ِﻃﻨًﺎ ﱠوﻇَ ِ‬
‫َ‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ﺢ اﻟﱠ ِﺬ ْى َﻛﺎ َن ِﻣﻨﱠـﺎ‪.‬‬
‫ﻒ َﻋﻨﱠﺎ ‪َ ،‬و ْاﻣ ُ‬
‫َ َرﺑﱠـﻨَﺎ َوا ْﻋ ُ‬
‫)ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫اﻹ ْﻛ ـ َـﺮ ِام ‪ ،‬اَِﻣ ْﺘـﻨَ ــﺎ َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ ِدﻳْـ ـ ِﻦ‬
‫َ ذَا ا ْﳉَـ َـﻼ ِل َو ِْ‬
‫ﻼم‪َ ) .‬ﺳ ْﺒـ ًﻌﺎ(‬‫ْاﻹ ْﺳ ِ‬

Bismillāhi walḥamdu In the Name of Allāh.
lillāhi, wal khayru All Praise be to
wash-sharru Allāh; and the good
bimashī’atillāh. (fortune) and the bad
(3 times) (fortune) is through
the Will of Allāh.13

‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

Āmannā billāhi wal We believe in Allāh


yawmil ākhiri, tubnā and the Last Day.
ilallāhi bāṭinaw wa We return to Allāh in
ẓāhirā. (3 times) repentance, openly
and secretly.14

Yā rabbanā wa‛fu O our Lord! Pardon


‛annā, wamḥulladhī us, and wipe out (all)
kāna minnā. our sins that we have
(3 times) committed.15 (3 times)
‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

Yā dhal jalāli wal O Master of Majesty


ikrām, amitnā ‛alā and Nobility! Let us
dīnil islām. die in accordance
(7 times) with the religion of
Islām.16 (7 times)

‫ﺻ ـ َـﺮ َ‬ ‫ﺻـ ـﻠَ َﺢ ﷲُ أ ُُﻣ ـ ْـﻮَر اﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺴ ــﻠ ِﻤ ْ َ‬
‫ﲔ‪َ ،‬‬ ‫اَ ْ‬
‫َﺷ ﱠﺮ اﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺆِذﻳْ َﻦ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬
‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫َ َﻋﻠ ـ ـ ﱡـﻰ َ َﻛﺒِ ـ ـ ْـﲑُ ‪َ َ ،‬ﻋﻠ ـ ـ ْـﻴ ُﻢ َ ﻗَ ـ ــﺪﻳْـ ُﺮ ‪َ ،‬‬
‫ﺼ ـ ْـﲑ ‪ َ ،‬ﻟَ ِﻄ ْﻴ ـ ُ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ـﻒ َ َﺧﺒ ـ ْـﲑُ‬ ‫َﲰْﻴ ـ ُـﻊ َ )ﷲ( ﺑَ ُ‬
‫)ﷲ(‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬

Yā qawiyyu yā matīn, O the Most Strong, O
ikfi sharraẓ ẓālimīn. the Most Firm, protect
(3 times) us against the evil of
the oppressors
(wrongdoers).17

‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

Aṣlaḥallāhu umūral O Allāh! Set right the


muslimīn, ṣarafallāhu affairs of the Muslims.
sharral mu’dhīn. O Allāh! Keep away
(3 times) and divert the evil of
the troublesome and
the harmful ones.18

Yā ‛aliyyu yā kabīru, O Most High! O Most


yā ‛alīmu yā qadīru, Great! O All-
yā samī‛u yā (Allāh) Knowing! O Most
baṣīr, yā laṭīfu yā Powerful! O All-
khabīru (Allāh). Hearing! O All-
(3 times) Seeing! O Most Kind!

‫ـﻒ اﻟْﻐَـ ِّـﻢ ‪َ َ ،‬ﻣ ـ ْـﻦ‬ ‫ﻓَــﺎرِج ا ْﳍ ـ ِـﻢ ‪َ ،‬ﻛ ِ‬
‫ﺎﺷ ـ َ‬ ‫َ َ َّ َ‬
‫ﻟِ َﻌ ْﺒ ِﺪﻩِ ﻳَـ ْﻐ ِﻔ ُﺮ َوﻳَـ ْﺮ َﺣ ُﻢ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬
‫٭٭٭٭‬

‫ـﱪا َ ‪ ،‬اَ ْﺳ ـﺘَـ ْﻐ ِﻔ ُﺮ ﷲَ ِﻣـ َـﻦ‬


‫ب اﻟْـ ََ‬‫اَ ْﺳ ـﺘَـ ْﻐ ِﻔ ُﺮ ﷲَ َر ﱠ‬
‫اﳋَﻄَﺎ َ ‪) .‬أ َْرﺑَـ ًﻌﺎ(‬ ‫ْ‬

Yā fārijal hamm, yā O Reliever of worry,
kāshifal ghamm, yā O Remover of grief, O
man li‛abdihī yaghfiru You Who forgives His
wa yarḥam. servant, and Who
(3 times) shows mercy towards
him.20 (3 times)
‫٭٭٭٭‬ ‫٭٭٭٭‬

Astaghfirullāha rabbal I seek forgiveness


barāyā, astaghfirullāha from Allāh, the Lord
minal khaṭāyā. of mankind. I seek
(4 times) forgiveness from
Allāh, for (all) my
sins.21 (4 times)

‫ف َوَﻛ ـ ـ ﱠﺮَم‬‫ﺻ ـ ـﻠﱠﻰ ﷲُ َﻋﻠَْﻴـ ـ ِـﻪ َو َﺳ ـ ـﻠﱠ َﻢ ‪َ ،‬و َﺷ ـ ـ ﱠﺮ َ‬ ‫َ‬
‫ﺿ ـ ـ َـﻰ ﷲُ ﺗَـ َﻌ ـ ـ ٰـﺎﱃ َﻋـ ـ ـ ِﻦ‬ ‫و َﳎﱠـ ـ ـ َﺪ و َﻋﻈﱠـ ــﻢ ‪ ،‬ور ِ‬
‫َ َ ََ‬ ‫َ‬
‫ﲔ‪‬‬ ‫ﺼﺤﺎﺑ ِﺔ أ ْ ِ‬
‫َﲨَﻌ ْ َ‬ ‫اﻟ ﱠ َ َ‬
‫ﲪ ِﻦ اﻟ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ‬ ‫ﷲ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬‫ﺑِﺴ ِﻢ ِ‬

‫ﺼـ َـﻤ ُﺪ ﴿‪ ﴾۲‬ﻟَ ـ ْﻢ‬ ‫ـﻞ ُﻫـ َـﻮ ﷲُ اَ َﺣـ ٌﺪ ﴿‪ ﴾۱‬اَ ُ اﻟ ﱠ‬ ‫﴿ﻗُـ ْ‬

Al Ma’būdu The Worshipped

Lā ilāha illallāhu There is none worthy of


(50 times) worship except Allāh.22

Lā ilā illallāhu There is none worthy of


sayyidunā Muḥammadur worship except Allāh.
rasūlullāhi, ṣallallāhu Muḥammad (may the
‛alayhi wa sallam, wa Peace and Blessings of
sharrafa wa karrama wa Allāh be upon him) is
majjada wa ‛aẓẓama, the Messenger of Allāh.
waraḍiyallāhu ta‛ālā May Allāh bestow upon
‛aniṣ ṣaḥābati ajma‘īn. him honour, eminence,
glory, reverence and
greatness. And may
Allāh be pleased with
all the Companions.

1 Qul huwal lāhu aḥad. 1 Say: He is Allāh, the
One and Only;
2 Allāhuṣ ṣamad. 2 Allāh, the Eternal,
Absolute;
3 Lam yalid wa lam 3 He was not born, nor
yūlad. does He give birth;
4 Wa lam yakul lahū 4 And there is nothing
kufuwan aḥad. like Him.23 (3 times)

falaq. the Lord of the daybreak;
2 Min sharri mā 2 From the mischief of
khalaq. created things;
3 Wa min sharri 3 From the mischief of
ghāsiqin idhā waqab. darkness as it becomes
intense;
4 Wa min sharrin 4 From the mischief of
naffāthāti fil ‛uqad. those who practise secret
arts;
5 Wa min sharri 5 And from the mischief of
ḥāsidin idhā ḥasad. the envious one as he
practises envy.24

ṣudūrin nās. the hearts of mankind;

‫رﺳـ ـ ــﻮِل ِ‬

‫اﺟ ـ ِـﻪ َوذُ ِّرﻳﱠﺘِ ـ ِـﻪ َوأ َْﻫ ـ ِـﻞ ﺑَـ ْﻴﺘِـ ـ ِـﻪ‪،‬‬
‫َﺻ ــﺤﺎﺑِ ِﻪ وأَ ْزو ِ‬
‫َوأ ْ َ َ َ‬

‫ُﺻـ ْـﻮﻟِ ِﻪ َوﻓُـ ُـﺮْو ِﻋ ِﻬ ْﻢ؛ أَ ﱠن ﷲَ ﻳُـ ْﻌﻠِـ ْـﻲ‬ ‫ﺴــﻰ‪َ ،‬وأ ُ‬ ‫ﻋ ْﻴ َ‬

‫َد َر َﺟـ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ ِﰲ ا ْﳉَﻨﱠـ ـ ِـﺔ َوﻳُ ْﻜﺜِـ ـ ُـﺮ ِﻣـ ـ ْـﻦ َﻣﺜُـ ـ ْـﻮَ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫ـﺎﻫ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪،‬‬ ‫ﻒ ﺣﺴـ ــﻨَﺎ ِِﻢ‪ ،‬وَْﳛ َﻔﻈُﻨَـ ــﺎ ِﲜـ ـ ِ‬ ‫ُ‬ ‫ﻀـ ـ ِ‬
‫ـﺎﻋ‬ ‫َوﻳُ َ‬
‫َ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ْ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫َ‬
‫َوﻳَـ ْﻨـ َﻔ ُﻌﻨَ ــﺎ ِِ ـ ْـﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳُِﻌ ْﻴـ ـ ُﺪ َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَ ــﺎ ِﻣ ـ ْـﻦ ﺑَـ َﺮَﻛ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫َﺳ ـ َـﺮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َوأَﻧْـ ـ َـﻮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َو ُﻋﻠُـ ْـﻮِﻣ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوﻧَـ َﻔ َﺤ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫َوأ ْ‬
‫ِﰲ اﻟ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ َواﻟ ﱡﺪﻧْـﻴَﺎ َو ْاﻵ ِﺧ َﺮةِ‪] .‬اَﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَﺔُ[‪.‬‬

Al-Fātiḥah

Alfātiḥatu ilā rūḥi Al-Fātiḥah on the soul of


sayyidinā wa ḥabībinā our master, our beloved,
wa shafī‛inā rasūlillāh, our intercessor, The
Muḥammadibni Messenger of Allāh,
‛Abdillāh, wa ālihī wa Muḥammad, bin ‛Abd
aṣḥābihī wa azwājihī Allāh, his family, his
wa dhurriyyatihī wa Companions, his wives,
ahli baytihī, wa ilā rūḥi his relatives and his family
sayyidinal muhājiri household; and upon the
ilallāhi Aḥmadabni ‛Īsā soul of our master Al
wa uṣūlihī wa Muhājir Ahmad bin ‛Īsa
furū‛ihim; Muḥammad, who has
annallāha yu‛lī returned to Allāh, and his
darajātihim fil jannati genealogical roots
wa yukthiru min (ancestors) and their
mathūbātihim wa branches (descendants),
yuḍā‛ifu ḥasanātihim, that Allāh may elevate
wa yaḥfaẓunā their ranks in Paradise
bijāhihim, wa yanfa‛unā and increase their benefit
bihim, wa yu‛īdu and protect us with their
‛alaynā min barakātihim status; and that He
wa asrārihim wa shower upon us of their
anwārihim wa blessings, (spiritual)
‛ulūmihim wa mysteries, illuminations,
nafaḥātihim fiddīni knowledge, and gifts in
waddunyā wal’ākhirati. (our) religion in this
[al-Fātiḥah]. world and in the
Hereafter. [al-Fātiḥah]

‫اﻟْ َﻔ ِﻘ ْﻴـ ِـﻪ اﻟ ُْﻤ َﻘ ـﺪِﱠم ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ ﺑْ ـ ِﻦ َﻋﻠِـ ٍّـﻲ َ َﻋﻠَــ ِﻮ ْي‪،‬‬
‫ﲨ ْﻴـ ِﻊ َﺳ َ ِ ِ‬ ‫ُﺻﻮﻟِ ِﻪ وﻓُــﺮو ِﻋ ِﻬﻢ‪ ،‬و َِ‬
‫ـﺎداﺗﻨَﺎ ٰال أِ ْ‬
‫َﰊ‬ ‫َوأ ُ ْ َ ُ ْ ْ َ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫َﻋﻠَ ـ ِﻮ ٍي وأ ِِ‬
‫ُﺻـ ْـﻮﳍ ْﻢ َوﻓُ ـ ُـﺮْوﻋ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪ ،‬أَ ﱠن ﷲَ ﻳُـ ْﻌـ ِ ْ‬
‫ـﺎﱃ‬ ‫َّ ُ‬
‫َد َر َﺟـ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ ِﰲ ا ْﳉَﻨﱠـ ـ ِـﺔ َوﻳُ ْﻜﺜِـ ـ ُـﺮ ِﻣـ ـ ْـﻦ َﻣﺜُـ ـ ْـﻮَ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫ﻒ ﺣﺴـ ــﻨَﺎ ِِﻢ‪ ،‬وَْﳛ َﻔﻈُﻨَـ ــﺎ ِﲜـ ـ ِ‬
‫ـﺎﻫ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪،‬‬ ‫وﻳ َ ِ‬
‫َ‬ ‫ﻀـ ــﺎﻋ ُ َ َ ْ َ‬ ‫َُ‬
‫َوﻳَـ ْﻨـ َﻔ ُﻌﻨَ ــﺎ ِِ ـ ْـﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳُِﻌ ْﻴـ ـ ُﺪ َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَ ــﺎ ِﻣ ـ ْـﻦ ﺑَـ َﺮَﻛ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫َﺳ ـ َـﺮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َوأَﻧْـ ـ َـﻮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َو ُﻋﻠُـ ْـﻮِﻣ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوﻧَـ َﻔ َﺤ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫َوأ ْ‬
‫ِﰲ اﻟ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ َواﻟ ﱡﺪﻧْـﻴَﺎ َو ْاﻵ ِﺧ َﺮةِ٭ ]اَﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَﺔُ[‪.‬‬

Al-Fātiḥah

Alfātiḥatu ilā rūḥi Al-Fātiḥah on the


sayyidinal ustādhil soul of our great
a‛ẓami; alfaqīhil teacher, the Jurist Al
muqaddimi Muqaddam
Muḥammadi nibni Muḥammad bin ‛Alī
‛aliyyin bā‛alawī wa Bā ‛Alawī and his
usūlihī wa furū‛ihim, genealogical roots
wa jamī‛i sādātinā āli (ancestors) and their
abī ‛alawiyyin wa branches
usūlihim wa (descendants), and all
furū‛ihim, annallāha our noble masters
yu‛lī darajātihim fil among the
jannati wa yukthiru descendants of the Bā
min mathūbātihim wa ‛Alawī; that Allāh
yuḍā‛ifu ḥasanātihim, may elevate their
wa yaḥfaẓunā ranks in Paradise and
bijāhihim, wa increase their benefit,
yanfa‘unā bihim, wa and double their good,
yu’īdu ‘alaynā min and protect us with
barakātihim wa their status; and that
asrārihim wa He shower upon us of
anwārihim wa their blessings,
‘ulūmihim wa (spiritual) mysteries,

‫اح َﺳـ َ‬ ‫اَﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَ ـﺔُ إِ ٰﱃ أ َْرَو ِ‬
‫ﺸ ـ ــﺎ ِر ِق‬‫اﺣ ُﻬ ـ ـ ْـﻢ ِﻣ ـ ـ ْـﻦ َﻣ َ‬
‫ـﺖ أ َْرَو ُ‬ ‫َﻛ ـ ــﺎﻧُـ ْﻮا َو َﺣﻠﱠ ـ ـ ْ‬
‫ض إِ ٰﱃ َﻣﻐَﺎ ِرَِــﺎ‪ ،‬أَ ﱠن ﷲَ ﻳُـ ْﻌﻠِـ ْـﻲ َد َر َﺟــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ‬ ‫ْاﻷ َْر ِ‬
‫ﻒ‬‫ـﺎﻋ ُ‬ ‫ﻀـ ـ ِ‬ ‫ِﰲ ا ْﳉَﻨﱠـ ـ ِـﺔ َوﻳُ ْﻜﺜِـ ـ ُـﺮ ِﻣـ ـ ْـﻦ َﻣﺜُـ ـ ْـﻮَ ِِ ْﻢ َوﻳُ َ‬
‫ﺣﺴــﻨَﺎ ِِﻢ‪ ،‬وَْﳛ َﻔﻈُﻨَــﺎ ِﲜـ ِ‬
‫ـﺎﻫ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳَـ ْﻨـ َﻔ ُﻌﻨَــﺎ ِِـ ْـﻢ‪،‬‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ََ ْ َ‬
‫َﺳـ ـ ـ َـﺮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ‬ ‫ِِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫َوﻳُﻌ ْﻴ ـ ـ ـ ُﺪ َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَـ ـ ــﺎ ﻣـ ـ ـ ْـﻦ ﺑَـ َﺮَﻛـ ـ ــﺎ ْﻢ َوأ ْ‬
‫َوأَﻧْـ ـ َـﻮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َو ُﻋﻠُ ـ ْـﻮِﻣ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوﻧَـ َﻔ َﺤ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ ِﰲ اﻟـ ـ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ‬
‫َواﻟ ﱡﺪﻧْـﻴَﺎ َو ْاﻵ ِﺧ َﺮةِ‪] .‬اَﻟْ َﻔ ِﺎﲢَﺔُ[‪.‬‬

Al-Fātiḥah

Alfātiḥatu ilā arwāḥi Al-Fātiḥah on the


sādātinaṣ ṣūfiyyati souls of our noble Ṣūfi
aynamā kānū wa ḥallat masters wherever they
arwāḥuhum min may be and wherever
mashāriqil arḍi ilā their souls may be set
maghāribihā, free, in the east or
annallāha yu’lī west, that Allāh may
darajātihim fil jannati raise their ranks in
wa yukthiru min Paradise and increase
mathūbātihim wa their benefit, and
yuḍā‛ifu ḥasanātihim, protect us with their
wa yaḥfaẓunā status; and that He
bijāhihim, wa shower upon us of
yanfa‛unā bihim, wa their blessings,
yu‛īdu ‛alaynā min (spiritual) mysteries,
barakātihim wa knowledge, and gifts
asrārihim wa in (our) religion in this
anwārihim wa world and in the
‛ulūmihim wa Hereafter. [al-
nafaḥātihim fiddīni Fātiḥah]

‫ي ﺑْـ ـ ـ ِﻦ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ـ ـ ٍـﺪ‬ ‫اَ ْﳊﺒِﻴ ـ ـ ِ ِ ِ‬
‫ـﺐ َﻋْﺒ ـ ــﺪ ﷲ ﺑْـ ـ ـ ِﻦ َﻋﻠَـ ـ ـ ِﻮ ِّ‬ ‫َْ‬
‫ُﺻ ـ ْـﻮﻟِ ِﻪ َوﻓُـ ـ ُـﺮْو ِﻋ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪ ،‬أَ ﱠن ﷲَ ﻳُـ ْﻌﻠِ ـ ْـﻲ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ا ْﳊـَ ـﺪﱠاد‪َ ،‬وأ ُ‬
‫َد َر َﺟـ ــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ ِﰲ ا ْﳉَﻨﱠـ ـ ِـﺔ َوﻳُ ْﻜﺜِـ ـ ُـﺮ ِﻣـ ـ ْـﻦ َﻣﺜُـ ـ ْـﻮَ ِِ ْﻢ‬
‫ـﺎﻫ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪،‬‬‫ﻒ ﺣﺴـ ــﻨَﺎ ِِﻢ‪ ،‬وَْﳛ َﻔﻈُﻨَـ ــﺎ ِﲜـ ـ ِ‬ ‫وﻳ َ ِ‬

‫َﺳـ َﺮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َوأَﻧْ ـ َـﻮا ِرِﻫ ْﻢ َو ُﻋﻠُـ ْـﻮِﻣ ِﻬ ْﻢ َوﻧَـ َﻔ َﺤــﺎ ِِ ْﻢ ِﰲ‬ ‫َوأ ْ‬

Al-Fātiḥah

Alfātiḥata ilā rūḥi Al-Fātiḥah on the soul


ṣāḥibir rātibi quṭbil of our master and
irshādi wa ghawthil compiler of the Rātib,
‛ibādi wal bilād, the Axis of Guidance
alḥabībi ‛Abdillāhibni and the spiritual
‛Alawiyyibni succour for the
Muḥammadil worshippers and
Ḥaddādi, wa usūlihī nations, the beloved
wa furū‛ihim, ‛Abd Allāh bin ‛Alawī
annallāha yu‛lī bin Muḥammad al-
darajātihim fil jannati Ḥaddād and his
wa yukthiru min genealogical roots
mathūbātihim wa (ancestors) and their
yuḍā‛ifu ḥasanātihim, branches
wa yaḥfaẓunā (descendants), that
bijāhihim, yanfa‛unā Allāh may elevate their
bihim, wa yu‛īdu ranks in Paradise and
‛alaynā min increase their benefit,
barakātihim wa and protects us with
asrārihim wa their status; and that He
anwārihim wa shower upon us of their
‛ulūmihim wa blessings, (spiritual)
nafaḥātihim fiddīni mysteries, knowledge,
waddunyā and gifts
wal’ākhirati. [al- in (our) religion in this
Fātiḥah]. world and in the
Hereafter. [al-Fātiḥah].

‫ﺸ ـ ـ ـ ــﺎﺋِ ِﺨﻨَﺎ ِﰲ‬ ‫ﲔ‪َ ،‬و َواﻟِـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ِـﺪﻳْـﻨَﺎ َوَﻣ َ‬ ‫ﺼ ـ ـ ـ ــﺎﳊِِ ْ َ‬
‫اﻟ ﱠ‬
‫اﻟ ـ ـ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ‪ ،‬و َذ ِوي ا ْﳊ ُﻘـ ــﻮ ِق َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَـ ــﺎ‪ ،‬وأ َْﻣـ ــﻮ ِ‬
‫ات‬ ‫َ َ‬ ‫ُ ْ‬ ‫َ‬

‫أ َْﻫ ـ ِـﻞ ٰﻫـ ـﺬﻩ اﻟْﺒَـ ْﻠـ ـ َﺪة ﻣ ـ ْـﻦ أ َْﻫ ـ ِـﻞ َﻻ إِٰﻟـ ـﻪَ إِﱠﻻ ﷲُ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫اح أ َْﻣـ ـ ــﻮ ِ‬ ‫َﲨَ ِﻌـ ـ ـ ْ َ ٰ‬
‫ات اﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺴـ ـ ــﻠ ِﻤ ْ َ‬
‫ﲔ‬ ‫ـﲔ‪َ ،‬وإِﱃ أ َْرَو ِ َ‬ ‫أْ‬
‫ـﺎﻫ ْﻢ إِ ٰﱃ ﻳَـ ْـﻮِم اﻟ ـ ِّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ‪ ،‬أَ ﱠن ﷲَ ﻳَـ ْﻐ ِﻔـ ُـﺮ َﳍـُ ْـﻢ‬ ‫َﺣﻴَـ ُ‬ ‫َوأ ْ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ب اﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺴ ـ ـ ـ ــﻠ ِﻤ ْ َ‬
‫ﲔ‬ ‫َوﻳَـ ـ ـ ـ ـ ْـﺮ َﲪُُﻬ ْﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳُـ َﻔ ـ ـ ـ ـ ِّـﺮ ُ‬
‫ج ُﻛ ـ ـ ـ ـ ُـﺮْو َ‬
‫ﺎﻫ ْﻢ‪َ ،‬وَْﳚ َﻤ ُـﻊ َﴰْﻠَ ُﻬ ْـﻢ‬ ‫ﺿُ‬ ‫َوﻳَـ ْﺮ َﲪُُﻬ ْﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳَ ْﺸ ِﻔ ْﻲ َﻣ ْﺮ َ‬
‫ات ﺑَـ ْﻴﻨِ ِﻬ ْﻢ‪،‬‬
‫ﻒ َذ َ‬ ‫َﻋﻠَﻰ ا ْﳍَُﺪى‪َ ،‬وﻳُـ َﺆﻟِّ ُ‬

Al-Fātiḥah

Alfātiḥata ilā arwāḥi Al-Fātiḥah on the


kāfati ‛ibādillāhiṣ souls of all the pious
ṣāliḥīn, wa wālidīnā servants of Allāh and
wa mashā’ikhinā our parents, and our
fiddīn, wa dhawil teachers of religion,
ḥuqūqi ‛alaynā, wa and those who have
amwāti ahli hādhihil rights upon us; and the
baldati min ahli lā deceased people of this
ilāha illallāhu ajma‛īn, land; of all those who
believed that there is
no god, but Allāh;

Wa ilā arwāḥi amwātil And on the souls of the


muslimīna wa deceased Muslims, and
aḥyāhum ilā those who are (still)
yawmiddīn, annallāha alive, until the Day of
yaghfiru lahum wa Judgement, that Allāh
yarḥamuhum, wa forgive them and have
yufarriju kurūbal Mercy on them; that he
muslimīna wa removes the difficulties
yarḥamuhum, wa of the Muslims and
yashfī marḍāhum, wa show compassion
yajma‛u shamlahum towards them; and that
‛alal hudā, he cures the sick, and
wa yu’allifu dhāta unite them upon
baynihim, guidance, and instill
love in their hearts,

‫َواﻟ ِْﻤ َﺤـ ِﻦ َواﻟ ُْﻤ ْـﺆذﻳِّ ْ َ‬
‫ﺎرُﻫ ْﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳُـﻐَـ ـ ـ ـ ِّـﺰ ُر‬ ‫ِ ٍ ِ‬
‫َﺳـ ـ ـ ـ َـﻌ َ‬
‫أ َْو ﺑَﻌ ْﻴ ـ ـ ــﺪ‪َ ،‬وﻳُـ ْﺮﺧ ـ ـ ـ ْـﻲ أ ْ‬
‫ـﺎرُﻫ ْﻢ‪َ ،‬وﻳُـ ْﻌ ِﻄـ ْـﻲ ُﻛ ـ ﱠﻞ َﺳــﺎﺋِ ٍﻞ ِّﻣﻨﱠــﺎ َوِﻣ ـْﻨ ُﻜ ْﻢ‬ ‫أ َْﻣﻄَـ َ‬

‫ﺢ‬‫ُﺳ ْـﺆﻟَﻪُ‪َ ،‬ﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ َﻣــﺎ ﻳُـ ْﺮﺿـﻲ ﷲَ َوَر ُﺳـ ْـﻮﻟَﻪُ‪َ ،‬وﻳَـ ْﻔــﺘَ ُ‬
‫ﲔ‪َ ،‬وَﳜْــﺘِ ُﻢ ﻟَﻨَــﺎ ِ ْﳊُ ْﺴـ َـﲎ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ح اﻟ َْﻌــﺎ ِرﻓ ْ َ‬‫َﻋﻠَْﻴـﻨَــﺎ ﻓُـﺘُ ـ ْـﻮ َ‬
‫ـﻒ ﱠو َﻋﺎﻓِﻴَ ـ ٍـﺔ‪،‬‬ ‫ـﲑ ﱠوﻟُﻄْـ ٍ‬ ‫ﰲ َﺧ ـ ٍْ‬ ‫اض َﻋﻨﱠ ــﺎ ِ ْ‬ ‫َو ُﻫ ـ َـﻮ َر ٍ‬
‫ﺻـ ـﻠﱠﻰ ﷲُ َﻋﻠَْﻴ ـ ِـﻪ‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫وإِ ٰﱃ ﺣ ْ ِ‬
‫ـﱯ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ــﺪ َ‬ ‫ﻀ ـ َـﺮة اﻟﻨﱠ ـ ِ ِّ‬ ‫َ َ‬
‫َوآﻟِ ِﻪ َو َﺳﻠﱠ َﻢ‪.‬‬

wa yuwallī ‛alayhim and causes the best
khiyārahum, wa among them to govern
yaṣrifu ‛anhum them, and divert from
shirārahum, wa them the worst among
yakfīnā wa iyyāhum them, and protect us and
sharral fitani wal them from the evil of the
miḥani wal trials and tribulations,
mu’dhiyyīna wal and the mischief-makers
mu‛tadīna min qarībin and transgressors from
aw ba‛īdin, wa yurkhī near and far; and make
as‛ārahum, wa their living conditions
yughazziru easy; and increase their
amṭārahum, wa yu‛ṭī rains; and give everyone
kulla sā’ilim minnā wa what he asks according
minkum su’lahū, ‛alā to that which pleases
mā yurḍillāha wa Allāh and His
rasūlahū, wa yaftaḥu Messenger; and that He
‛alaynā futūḥal inspire us with the
‛ārifīna, wa yakhtimu inspiration of the
lanā bilḥusnā wa huwa Gnostics; and that He
rāḍin ‛annā fī khayrin grant us a good ending
wa luṭfin wa ‛āfiyatin, whilst being satisfied
wa ilā ḥaḍratin nabiyyi with us in good,
(Muḥammadin kindness and well-being;
ṣallallāhu ‛alayhi wa and (finally al-Fātiḥah)
sallam). to the Holy Presence of
the Prophet Muḥammad,
may the Blessings and
Peace of Allāh be upon
him and his family.

Yā allāhu bisharbatin O Allāh! Let us drink a
hanī’atin, wholesome and pleasant
Min yadi khayril drink through the hand

Yā allāhu bitawbatiw O Allāh! Accept our
wa qabūliw wa repentance (tawbah)
iḥsānin, and our good deeds; and
Yā allāhu bitawbatin accept our repentance
qabla darjil akfāni. before we are shrouded

Bismillāhir raḥmānir Bismillāhir raḥmānir


raḥīm raḥīm
Alladhīna qāla lahumun Men said to them: “A
nāsu innan nāsa qad great army is gathering
jama‛ū lakum fakh- against you”; and
shawhum fazādahum frightened them; but it
īmānan, wa qālū (only) increased their
ḥasbunallāhu wa ni‛mal faith. They said: “For
wakīl. us Allāh is sufficient,
and in Him do we place
Fanqalabū bini‛matim our trust.”And they
minallāhi wa faḍlil lam returned with grace and
yamsashum sū-un, bounty from Allāh; no
wattaba‛ū riḍwānallāhi, harm ever touched them;
wallāhu dhū faḍlin for they followed the
‛aẓīm. good pleasure of Allāh;
[Sūrah Āl-‛Imrān (3), and Allāh is the Lord of
Āyāt 173-174] bounties unbounded.

‫ﻨ‬ ‫ﷲط ﻫ ــﻮ اﻟﱠـ ِـﺬ ۤى اَﻳﱠ ـ َﺪ َك ﺑِﻨﺼ ـ ِﺮﻩِ و ِ ﻟْﻤ ـ ْـﺆِ‬

‫ـﲔ ﻗُـﻠُ ْـﻮِِ ْﻢ َوٰﻟ ِﻜـ ﱠﻦ‬ ‫ـﺖ‬ ‫ﻔ‬‫ْ‬ ‫ﱠ‬
‫ﲨ ْﻴـ ًﻌﺎ ﱠﻣ َ َ َ ْ َ‬
‫ﺑ‬ ‫ﻟ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ﺎ‬ ‫ض َِ‬ ‫ْاﻷ َْر ِ‬
‫ـﻒ ﺑـﻴ ـ ـﻨَـﻬﻢط اِﻧﱠ ــﻪُ َﻋ ِﺰﻳـ ـ ٌـﺰ ﺣ ِ‬
‫ﻜ ـ ْـﻴ ٌﻢ ﴿‪﴾۶۳‬‬ ‫ْ َ‬ ‫ﷲَ اَﻟﱠ ـ َ َ ْ ُ ْ‬
‫ۤ‬
‫ـﻚ ِﻣـ َـﻦ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻌ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﺒ‬ ‫ﱠ‬
‫ـ‬ ‫ﺗ‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﻦ‬
‫ﱡ َ ْ ُ َ ُ ََ َ َ َ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻣ‬‫و‬ ‫ﷲ‬ ‫ﻚ‬ ‫ـﺒ‬‫ـ‬ ‫ﺴ‬ ‫ﺣ‬ ‫ـﱮ‬‫ِ‬ ‫ـ‬‫ﱠ‬‫ﻨ‬ ‫اﻟ‬ ‫ـﺎ‬‫ـ‬ ‫ﻬ‬‫ـ‬
‫ََ‬‫ﱡ‬‫ﻳ‬ ‫ٰ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ﲔ ﴿‪﴾﴾۶۴‬‬ ‫اﻟ ُْﻤ ْﺆﻣﻨِ ْ َ‬
‫ـﻞ ﻧِ ْﻌ َـﻢ اﻟ َْﻤ ْـﻮ ٰﱃ َوﻧِ ْﻌ َـﻢ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫َﺣ ْﺴﺒُـﻨَﺎ ﷲُ َوﻧ ْﻌ َـﻢ اﻟ َْﻮﻛ ْﻴ ُ‬
‫ﱠﺼ ِْﲑ‪َ ١٨) .‬ﻣ ﱠﺮةً(‬ ‫اﻟﻨ ِ‬
‫ﻮرةُ ْاﻷَﻧْـ َﻔﺎل )‪ ،(٨‬آ ت ‪٦٤-٦٢‬‬
‫ُﺳ َ‬

Ḥasbunallāhu wa ni‛mal Allāh is sufficient for us,
wakīl. (18 times) and in Him do we place
our trust. (18 times)

Wa iyyurīdū Should they intend to


ayyakhda‛ūka fa’inna deceive you, verily Allāh is
ḥasbakallāhu huwal sufficient for you. It is He
ladhī ayyadaka that strengthened you with
binaṣrihī wa His aid and with the
bilmu’minīn, wa allafa company of the believers.
bayna qulūbihim, law And moreover, He has
anfaqta mā fil’arḍi put affection between their
jamī‛am mā allafta hearts. Even if you had
bayna qulūbihim wa spent all that is in the
lākin nallāha allafa earth, you could not have
baynahum, innahū produced that affection;
‛azīzun ḥakīm. Yā but Allāh has done it; for
ayyuhan nabiyyu He is the Exalted in Might,
ḥasbukallāhu wa the Wise. O Prophet!
manittaba‛aka minal Allāh is sufficient for you
mu’minīn, and for those believers
[Sūrah Al-Anfāl (8), who follow you. [Sūrah Al-
Āyāt 62-64] Anfāl (8), Verses 62-64]

Ḥasbunallāhu wa ni‛mal Allāh is sufficient for us,


wakīli ni‛mal mawlā wa and He is the best
ni‛man naṣīr. Guardian. He is the
(18 times) Bestower of Protection,
and the Bestower of
Victory. (18 times)

‫ﻧِ ْﻌــﻢ اﻟْﻤــﻮ ٰﱃ وﻧِ ْﻌــﻢ اﻟﻨ ِ‬
‫ﱠﺼـ ْـﲑُ ‪َ ،‬وَﻻ َﺣـ ْـﻮ َل َوَﻻ‬ ‫َ َْ َ َ‬
‫ﻗُـ ﱠﻮةَ إِﱠﻻ ِ ِ اﻟ َْﻌﻠِ ِّﻲ اﻟ َْﻌ ِﻈ ْﻴ ِﻢ‪.‬‬

‫ﲪ ِﻦ اﻟـ ـ ـ ﱠﺮِﺣ ْﻴ ِﻢ ‪ ،‬اَ ُ ﻟَ ِﻄ ْﻴ ـ ـ ٌ‬ ‫ﺑِﺴ ـ ـ ِـﻢ ِ‬


‫م‬
‫ـﻒ‬ ‫ﷲ اﻟـ ـ ـ ﱠﺮ ْ ٰ‬ ‫ْ‬
‫ۤ‬
‫ـﺎدﻩِ ﻳَـ ـ ـ ْـﺮ ُز ُق َﻣ ـ ـ ْـﻦ ﻳﱠ َ‬
‫ﺸ ـ ــﺎءُ َو ُﻫ ـ ـ َـﻮ اﻟْ َﻘـ ـ ـ ِﻮ ﱡ‬
‫ي‬ ‫ﺑِ ِﻌﺒ ـ ـ ِ‬
‫َ‬
‫اﻟ َْﻌ ِﺰﻳْـ ُﺰ‪.‬‬

‫ﻂ ‪ ،‬و ُدو ُد‪ِ .‬‬

Ni‛mal mawlā wa O Bestower of
ni‛man naṣīr, wa lā Protection and the
ḥawla wa lā quwwata Bestower of Victory;
illā billāhil ‛aliyyil and there is no Power
‛aẓīm. and no Strength except
with Allāh the Most
High, the All-Mighty.

Bismillāhir raḥmānir Bismillāhir raḥmānir


raḥīm raḥīm

Allāhu laṭīfum bi- Allāh, who is Most Kind


‛ibadihī yarzuqu to His servants, He gives
mayyashā’u wa huwal sustainance to whom He
qawiyyul ‛azīz. Wills, and He is the
Most Powerful, the
Mighty.

Yā bāsitu, yā wadūdu. O the Extender of


(6 times) Sustainance, O the Most
Loving. (6 times)

Allāhu laṭīfum bi- Allāh, is Most Kind to


‛ibadihī yarzuqu His servants; He gives
mayyashā’u wa huwal sustainance to whom He
qawiyyul ‛azīz. Wills and He is the Most
Powerful, the Mighty.

‫ﻂ‬ ‫ﻀ ِـﻞ َﻋﻠَـﻰ اﻟ َِ‬ ‫اَﻟ ٰﻠّ ُﻬ ﱠﻢ َ َدآﺋِ َـﻢ اﻟْ َﻔ ْ‬
‫ﺐ اﻟ َْﻤ َﻮ ِاﻫ ـ ـ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ ِ‬
‫ـﺐ‬ ‫ﺻـ ــﺎﺣ َ‬ ‫اﻟْﻴَ ـ ـ َﺪﻳْ ِﻦ ِ ﻟ َْﻌﻄﻴﱠـ ــﺔ ‪َ َ ،‬‬
‫ـﻞ َو َﺳـ ـﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠـ ـﻰ َﺳ ــﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ـ ٍـﺪ‬‫ﺻ ـ ِّ‬
‫اﻟ ﱠ ِ ِ‬
‫ﺴ ــﻨﻴﱠﺔ ‪َ ،‬‬
‫ﺴـ ـ ِـﺠﻴﱠ ِﺔ ‪َ ،‬وا ْﻏ ِﻔـ ـ ْـﺮ ﻟَﻨَـ ــﺎ َ ذَا‬‫ـﲑ اﻟْـ ـ َـﻮ ٰرى ِ ﻟ ﱠ‬
‫َﺧـ ـ ْ َ‬
‫ﰲ ٰﻫ ِﺬﻩِ اﻟ َْﻌ ِﺸﻴﱠ ِﺔ‪) .‬ﺛَﻼَ ً (‬ ‫اﻟ ُْﻌ ٰﻠﻰ ِ ْ‬

Yā laṭīfu lam tazal O Most Kind, You are
ulṭuf binā fīmā nazala forever Most Kind.
innaka laṭīfun lam Show Kindness to us
tazal ulṭuf binā wal against Calamities. You
muslimīna. are Eternally Kind.

Muslims Kindness.

Yā mughīthu aghithnā, O Great Helper! Help
waṣrif ‛annas sū’a. us. Keep away from us
(3 times) all misfortune and evil.

Allāhumma yā O Allāh! O the One
dā’imal faḍli ‛alal Whose Grace is
bariyya, yā bāsiṭal eternally bestowed on
yadayni bil ‛aṭiyyati, mankind; whose Hands
yā ṣāḥibal mawāhibis are forever open (Who
saniyyati, ṣalli wa are Most Generous) in
sallim ‛alā sayyidinā bestowing bounties; and
Muḥammadin khayral Who bestow great gifts.
warā bissajiyyati, Bestow Your Blessings
waghfir lanā yā dhal and Peace on our chief
‛ulā fī hādhihil and leader Muḥammad,
‛ashiyyati. the best of mankind in
(3 times) disposition, and forgive
us on this evening, O
Most High. (3 times)

‫اﰲ ﻧَِﻌ َﻤـﻪُ‬
‫ﲔ ‪َ ،‬ﲪْـ ًﺪا ﻳﱡـ َـﻮ ِ ْ‬ ‫ب اﻟ َْﻌﺎﻟَ ِﻤ ْ َ‬‫اَ ْﳊَ ْﻤ ُﺪ ّٰ َر ِّ‬
‫ـﻚ ا ْﳊَ ْﻤ ـ ُﺪ َﻛ َﻤــﺎ‬‫َوﻳُ َﻜــﺎﻓِ ُﺊ َﻣ ِﺰﻳْ ـ َﺪﻩُ ‪َ َ ،‬رﺑﱠـﻨَــﺎ ﻟَـ َ‬
‫ﻚ‪،‬‬ ‫ـﻚ َو َﻋ ِﻈـ ْـﻴ ِﻢ ُﺳـ ْﻠﻄَﺎﻧِ َ‬ ‫ﻳَـ ْﻨـﺒَ ِﻐـ ْـﻲ ِﳉـَ َـﻼ ِل َو ْﺟ ِﻬـ َ‬
‫ـﺖ َﻛ َﻤـﺎ‬‫ـﻚ أَﻧْ َ‬ ‫ـﺎء َﻋﻠَْﻴ َ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﻚ َﻻ ُْﳓﺼ ْـﻲ ﺛَـﻨَ ً‬ ‫ُﺳ ْﺒ َﺤﺎﻧَ َ‬
‫ـﻚ ا ْﳊَ ْﻤـ ُﺪ َﺣـ ّٰـﱴ‬ ‫ـﻚ ‪ ،‬ﻓَـﻠَـ َ‬ ‫ـﺖ َﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ ﻧَـ ْﻔ ِﺴـ َ‬ ‫أَﺛْـﻨَـ ْﻴـ َ‬
‫ـﻚ‬
‫ﺖ َوﻟَـ َ‬ ‫ﺿ ـ ْـﻴ َ‬‫ـﻚ ا ْﳊﻤـ ـ ُﺪ إِذَا ر ِ‬ ‫ﺗَـ ْﺮ ٰ‬
‫َ‬ ‫ﺿـ ـﻰ ‪َ ،‬وﻟَـ َ َ ْ‬

The Du‛ā The Du‛ā
(Supplication)
Bismillāhir raḥmānir Bismillāhir raḥmānir
raḥīm raḥīm
Alḥamdulillāhi rabbil All Praise be to Allāh,
‛ālamīn, ḥamdan Lord of the Worlds,
yuwāfī ni‛amahū wa Praises that are
yukāfi’u mazīdah, yā equivalent to His
rabbanā lakal ḥamdu Bounties, Praises that
kamā yambaghī li will keep away His
jalāli wajhika wa Resentment and wrath,
‛aẓīmi sulṭānik, and Praises that are equal
subḥānaka lā nuḥṣī to His Added Grace and
thanā’an ‛alayka anta Kindness. O Allāh! All
kamā athnayta ‛alā Praise is due to You
nafsik, falakal ḥamdu alone, Praises befitting
ḥattā tarḍā, walakal Your Majestic
ḥamdu idhā raḍīta wa Countenance and Grand
lakal ḥamdu ba‛dar and Vast Authority. All
riḍā, Glory be to You. We
cannot do justice Praising
You (enough), for You
have Praised yourself.
All Praises be to You
before You are Pleased;
and all Praises be to You
after You are Pleased;
and all Praises be to You
when you are Pleased.

‫ـﻞ َو َﺳ ـﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠ ـﻰ َﺳــﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ ِﰲ‬ ‫ﺻـ ِّ‬ ‫ﻢ‬‫ﱠ‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ﻬ‬ ‫اَﻟ ٰ‬
‫ﻠ‬
‫ّ‬
‫َ‬ ‫ُ‬
‫ـﻞ َو َﺳـﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ َﺳـﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ٍـﺪ ِﰲ‬
‫ﺻ ِّ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﲔ ‪َ ،‬و َ‬‫ْاﻷَﱠوﻟ ْ َ‬
‫ٍ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ﺻ ِّﻞ َو َﺳﻠّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠﻰ َﺳـﻴِّﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـﺪ ِ ْ‬
‫ﰲ‬ ‫ْاﻵﺧ ِﺮﻳْ َﻦ ‪َ ،‬و َ‬
‫ﲔ‪،‬‬ ‫ْﺖ ﱠو ِﺣ ْ ٍ‬‫ُﻛ ِﻞ وﻗ ٍ‬
‫َّ‬

‫ـﻞ َو َﺳ ـﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠ ـﻰ َﺳــﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤـ ٍـﺪ ِﰲ اﻟ َْﻤـ َِ‬


‫ـﻺ‬ ‫ﺻـ ِّ‬ ‫َو َ‬
‫ﺻ ِّﻞ َو َﺳـﻠِّ ْﻢ َﻋ ٰﻠـﻰ‬ ‫ِ ِ‬
‫ْاﻷَ ْﻋ ٰﻠﻰ إِ ٰﱃ ﻳَـ ْﻮم اﻟ ّﺪﻳْ ِﻦ ‪َ ،‬و َ‬
‫ض َوَﻣ ـ ـ ْـﻦ‬
‫ث ْاﻷ َْر َ‬ ‫َﺳ ـ ــﻴِّ ِﺪ َ ُﳏَ ﱠﻤ ـ ـ ٍـﺪ َﺣ ـ ـ ّٰـﱴ ﺗَـ ـ ـ ِﺮ َ‬
‫ِ‬
‫ﺖ َﺧ ْﲑُ اﻟ َْﻮا ِرﺛ ْ َ‬
‫ﲔ‪.‬‬ ‫َﻋﻠَْﻴـ َﻬﺎ َوأَﻧْ َ‬

Allāhumma ṣalli wa O Allāh! Bestow Your
sallim ‛alā sayyidinā Blessings and Peace on
Muḥammadin our master Muḥammad,
fil’awwalīn, wa ṣalli amongst the first. Bestow
wa sallim ‛alā Your Blessings and Peace
sayyidinā on our master
Muḥammadin Muḥammad, amongst the
fil’ākhirīn, wa ṣalli wa last. Bestow Your
sallim ‛alā sayyidinā Blessings and Peace upon
Muḥammadin fī kulli our master Muḥammad,
waqtiw wa ḥīn, always, and at all times.

Wa ṣalli wa sallim ‛alā Bestow Your Blessings


sayyidinā and Peace upon our
Muḥammadin fil master Muḥammad
mala’il a‛lā ilā yawmid amongst the exalted
dīn, wa ṣalli wa sallim chiefs in heaven till the
‛alā sayyidinā day of judgement; and
Muḥammadin ḥattā bestow Your Blessings
tarithal arḍa wa man and Peace upon our chief
‛alayhā wa anta Muḥammad until You
khayrul wārithīn, inherit the earth, and all
that is in it, for You are
the best of Inheritors (the
Real and Eternal
Possessor of everything).

‫ﻚ أَ ْد َ ﻧَـﻨَـﺎ‬‫ﻚ َوﻧَ ْﺴـﺘَـ ْﻮِد ُﻋ َ‬ ‫اَﻟﻠّ ُﻬ ﱠﻢ إِ ﱠ ﻧَ ْﺴـﺘَ ْﺤ ِﻔﻈُ َ‬
‫ﺴــﻨَﺎ ‪َ ،‬وأ َْﻣ َﻮاﻟَﻨَــﺎ َوأ َْﻫﻠَﻨَــﺎ َوُﻛـ ـ ﱠﻞ‬ ‫َوأَﺑْ ـ َﺪاﻧَـﻨَﺎ َوأَﻧْـ ُﻔ َ‬
‫ٰ‬ ‫ٍ‬
‫ﰲ‬‫اﺟ َﻌﻠْﻨَــﺎ َوإِ ﱠ ُﻫـ ْـﻢ ِ ْ‬‫َﺷ ـ ْﻰء أَ ْﻋﻄَْﻴـﺘَـﻨَــﺎ‪ .‬اَﻟﻠّ ُﻬ ـ ﱠﻢ ْ‬
‫ﺎذ َك ِﻣﻦ ُﻛ ِـﻞ َﺷ ْـﻴﻄَ ٍ‬
‫ﺎن‬ ‫ﻚ ‪ ،‬و ِﻋﻴ ِ‬ ‫َﻛﻨَ ِﻔ َ ِ‬
‫ْ ّ‬ ‫ﻚ َوأ ََﻣﺎﻧ َ َ َ‬
‫ﱠﻣ ِﺮﻳْـ ـ ٍـﺪ ‪َ ،‬و َﺟﺒﱠـ ــﺎ ٍر َﻋﻨِْﻴـ ـ ٍـﺪ ‪َ ،‬و ِذ ْي ﺑَـ ْﻐ ـ ـ ٍﻲ ﱠو ِذ ْي‬
‫ـﻞ ِذ ْي ﺷ ـ ٍّـﺮ ‪ ،‬إِﻧﱠـ َ‬ ‫ﺣ ٍ ِ‬
‫ـﻚ‬ ‫ﺴ ــﺪ ‪َ ،‬وﻣ ـ ْـﻦ َﺷ ـ ِّـﺮ ُﻛ ـ ِّ‬ ‫ََ‬
‫َﻋ ٰﻠﻰ ُﻛ ِّﻞ َﺷ ْﻰ ٍء ﻗَ ِﺪﻳْـ ٌﺮ‪.‬‬

‫اﻹﺳﺘِ َﻘﺎﻣ ِﺔ ‪ ،‬وأ ِ‬ ‫ٰ‬


‫َﻋ ْﺬ َ‬ ‫اَﻟﻠّ ُﻬ ﱠﻢ ُﺣﻄْﻨَﺎ ِ ﻟﺘﱠـ ْﻘ ٰﻮى َو ِْ ْ َ َ‬
‫ـﺎل واﻟْﻤـ ِ‬
‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬
‫ـﺂل‪،‬‬ ‫ﻣـ ْـﻦ ﱡﻣ ْﻮﺟﺒَــﺎت اﻟﻨﱠ َﺪ َاﻣــﺔ‪ِ ،‬ﰲ ا ْﳊـَ َ َ‬
‫ﻚ َِﲰﻴﻊ اﻟﺪﱡﻋ ِ‬
‫ﺂء‪.‬‬ ‫إِﻧﱠ َ ْ ُ َ‬

Allāhumma innā O Allāh! We place in
nastaḥfiẓuka wa Your Care and
nastawdi‛uka Safekeeping our
adyānanā wa religion, our bodies, our
abdānanā wa souls, our properties,
anfusanā, wa our families, and all that
amwālanā wa ahlanā which You have
wa kulla shay’in granted us. O Allāh!
a‛ṭaytanā, Place us and them Your
Allāhummaj‛alnā wa Protection Your Safety,
iyyāhum fī kanafika Your Security, and
wa amānika wa Your Sanctuary, from
‛iyādhika min kulli any rebellious Shayṭān
shayṭānim marīd, wa (Satan), and any
jabbārin ‛anīd, wa dhī obstinate tyrant, from
baghyiw wa dhī the one who is unjust
ḥasad, wa min sharri and envious; and from
kulli dhī shar, innaka the evil of every evil-
‛alā kulli shay’in doer. You have Power
qadīr. over all things.

Allāhumma ḥuṭnā O Allāh! Safeguard us


bittaqwā wal through piety and
istiqāmah, wa a‛idhnā sincerity and protect us
min mūjibātin from all that which will
nadāmah, fil ḥāli wal cause us to grieve now
ma’āl, innaka samī‛ud and in the future. For
du‛ā, Verily, You are the One
Who Answers the
prayers.

‫َو ْار ُزﻗـْﻨَﺎ َﻛ َﻤ َ ُ َ َ َ ُ‬
‫ﲔ‪.‬‬ ‫اَرﺣﻢ اﻟ ﱠﺮ ِِ‬

‫ﺼ َـﻼة َواَ َﰎﱡ اﻟﺘ ْ‬ ‫َواَﻓْ َ ُ‬

Wa ṣallillāhumma O Allāh! Through
bijamālika wa jalālika Your Beauty,
‛alā sayyidinā Splendour,
Muḥammadin wa ‛alā Exaltedness,
ālihī wa ṣaḥbihī wa Sublimity and Glory,
sallim, warzuqnā bestow Peace and
kamālal mutāba‛ati Blessings on our
l ah ū ẓāh ir a w wa master Muḥammad,
bā ṭ i n ā, yā arḥamar his family and his
rāḥimīn. Companions; and
endow us with the
ability to follow him
with perfection
inwardly and
outwardly, O Most
Merciful.

Wa afḍaluṣ ṣalāti wa And the greatest of


atammut taslīmi ‛alā Blessings and
sayyidinā Salutations upon the
Muḥammadin khātimi most honoured
jamī‛il ambiyā’i wal Muḥammad, the last
mursalīn, wa ‛alā ālihī Prophet of all the

‫َٰﻳﱡـ َﻬ ــﺎ اﻟ ــﺬﻳْ َﻦ ا َﻣﻨُـ ـ ْـﻮا َ‬

Allāhummaghfir O Allāh, forgive the
li’ahlil qubūr minal people of the grave,
mu’minīna wal the believing men and
mu’mināti wal believing women and
muslimīna wal the Muslim men and
muslimāt, irfa‛ Muslim women,
lahumud darajāti wa elevate their status,
kaffir ‛anhumus and remove from them
sayyi’āti yā rabbal their sins, O Lord of
‛ālamīn. the Worlds.

Innallāha wa Verily, Allāh and His


malā’ikatahū angels send
yuṣallūna ‛alan nabiy, Salutations upon the
Yā ayyuhalladhīna Prophet; O you who
āmanū ṣallū ‛alayhi believe, send
wa sallimū taslīmā, Salutations and Peace
[Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb (33), upon him.
Āyah 56] [Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb (33),

Allāhumma ṣalli ‛alā O Allāh! Shower


sayyidinā Your Blessings and
Muḥammadiw wa ‛alā Peace on our chief

‫ﻚ اﻟ ٰﻠّ ُﻬ ـ ﱠﻢ َوَِﲢﻴﱠـ ـﺘُـ ُﻬ ْﻢ‬‫﴿ َد ْﻋـ ٰـﻮﯨ ُﻬ ْﻢ ﻓِ ْﻴـ َﻬــﺎ ُﺳـ ْـﺒ ٰﺤﻨَ َ‬
‫ﻓِﻴـﻬــﺎ ﺳ ـ ٰﻠﻢج وٰا ِﺧــﺮ َد ْﻋـ ٰـﻮﯨﻬﻢ اَ ِن ا ْﳊﻤ ـ ُﺪ ِِّٰ‬

Da‛wāhum fīhā In that (state of
subḥānakal lāhumma happiness) they will
wa taḥiyyatuhum fīhā call out: “Glory be to
salām, wa ākhiru You, O Allāh!” while
da‛wāhum anil ḥamdu their greeting in it
lillāhi rabbil ‛ālamīn. (Paradise) will be:
[Sūrah Yūnus (10), “All Praise is due to
Āyah 10] Allāh, the Lord of the
Worlds.”

Fī kulli laḥẓatin At every moment,


abadan, ‛adada forever, to the number
khalqihī wa riḍā of His Creation, to the
nafsihī wa zinata Extent of His
‛arshihī wa midāda Pleasure, to the
kalimātihī. weight of His Throne
and the ink that it
would take to write
His Words.

COMMENTARY ON THE RĀTIB AL-
ḤADDĀD

The numbers quoted hereunder can be found in the


English Translation of the Rātib Al-Ḥaddād.

1. Abū Sa‛īd ibn al-Mullā  said: “As I was


praying in the Mosque, the Prophet  called me but
I did not answer him. Later I said, “O Allāh’s
Messenger! I was praying.” He said, “Didn’t Allāh
say:- ‘Give your response to Allāh (by obeying Him)
and to His Messenger when he calls you.” (Sūrah (8)
al-Anfāl, verse 24). He then said to me, “Before you
leave the Mosque, I will teach you a sūrah, which is
the greatest surah in the Qur’ān.”

Then he  got hold of my hand, and when he 


was about to leave (the Mosque) I said to him ,
“Didn’t you O Prophet  say to me: ‘I will teach
you a sūrah which is the greatest sūrah in the
Qur’ān?’” He  said, “Praise be to Allāh, the Lord
of the Worlds”, Al-Fātiḥah, with the seven oft-
repeated verses in the mighty Qur’ān, which has
been given to me.”

2. From Bukhārī, narrated by Abū Hurayrah :
“The Prophet  ordered me to guard the zakāh
revenue of Ramaḍān. Then somebody came and
started to steal the food. I caught him and said: ‘I
will take you to Allāh’s Prophet!’” Then Abū
Hurayrah  described the whole narration and said:
{That person said (to me), “Please don’t take me to
Allāh’s Prophet . I will tell you a few words by
which Allāh will benefit you.”}

“When you go to bed, recite Āyāt al-Kursī, for


then there will be a guard from Allāh who will
protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able
to come near you till dawn.” (When the Prophet 
heard the story) he said (to me); “He (who came to
you at night) told you the truth, although he is a liar;
because he who came to you were Satan.”

3. From Bukhārī and Muslim, narrated by ibn


Mas‛ūd : The Prophet  said: “If somebody
recited the last two verses of Sūrah al-Baqarah at
night, that will be sufficient for him.”

4. From Muslim, narrated by ‛Abdullāh ibn ‛Abbās


: “While Jibrīl  was sitting with the Prophet ,

he (Jibrīl) heard a creaking sound above him. He
(Jibrīl) lifted his head and said: ‘This is a gate which
is being opened in heaven today which had never
been opened before.’ Then, when an angel
descended through it, he (Jibrīl) said: ‘Rejoice in
two lights which is given to you and the likes of
which have not been given to any Prophet before
you: “Fātiḥat al-Kitāb and the concluding verses of
Sūrah al-Baqarah”. (You will never recite a letter
from them for which you will not be rewarded.)

5. From Al-Muwaṭṭa’, narrated by Abū Hurayrah


; The Messenger of Allāh, may Allāh Bless him
and grant him Peace, said: “Whosoever says, ‘There
is no god but Allāh, alone; He has no partners; His is
the Sovereignty and to Him belongs all Praise and
He has Power over everything’, one hundred times a
day, it is the same for him as freeing ten slaves. One
hundred good actions are written for him and one
hundred wrong actions are erased from him; and it is
a protection against Satan for that day until the
night. No one does anything more excellent than
what he does except some one who does more than
that.”

6. From Muslim, narrated by Samurah ibn Jundab
; the Messenger of Allāh, may Allāh Bless him
and grant him Peace, said: “The dearest words to
Allāh are four: ‘Transcendent is Allāh’ ‘All Praise
belongs to Allāh’, ‘There is no god but Allāh’, and
‘Allāh is the Greatest’. (There is no harm for you in
which order you begin them while remembering
Allāh).”

7. From Bukhārī, narrated by Abū Hurayrah .


The Prophet  said: “There are two expressions
which are very easy for the tongue to say, but they
carry much weight and are very dear to Allāh. They
are: ‘Subḥānallāh wa biḥamdihī’ and ‘Subḥānallāh
al-‛Aẓīm’.”

And the Prophet  said: “Whosoever says


‘Subḥānallāh wa biḥamdihī’, one hundred times a
day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as
much as the foam of the sea.”

8. Sūrah Hūd (11), Verses 3 and 90: “But ask


forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him (in
repentance);

Sūrah Al-Nisā (4), Verse 106: “And seek
forgiveness of Allāh; for Allāh is Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful.”

9. Sūrah Al-Aḥzāb (33), Verse 56: “Allāh and His


Angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you that
believe! Send your blessings on him, and salute him
with all respect.”

From Muslim, narrated by ‛Abdullāh bin ‛Amr


bin al-‛Āṣ : The Prophet  said: “Whosoever ask
Allāh to bless me once, Allāh will bless him ten
times.”

10. From Abū Dāwūd and Tirmidhī, the Prophet 


said: “Anyone who recites this prayer three times, no
harm will befall him.”

11. From ibn Ḥibbān : the Prophet Muḥammad 


said: “Any servant of Allāh who reads this prayer
every morning and evening, no sickness will befall
him.”

12. Sūrah Āl ‛Imrān (3), Verse 19: “The only true


religion in Allāh’s sight is Islām: complete
submission to His Will.”

From Abū Dāwūd and Tirmidhī: the Prophet
Muḥammad  said: “Anyone who recites this
prayer every morning and evening will enter
heaven.”

(‛Umar  recited this prayer whenever he


noticed that the Prophet  is upset.)

13. The Prophet  said: “Oh Abū Hurayrah,


whenever you want to travel for trade, recite this
prayer, for then your steps will lead you to the right
path.” (According to the learned scholars [‛Ālim
‛Ulamā], this applies to all professions.)

Every act should begin with ‘Bismillāh’ and


conclude with ‘Alḥamdulillāh’.

14. According to the learned jurists [‛Ālim ‛Ulamā],


the secret of this dhikr is to uphold your faith [īmān]
and vow to correct your deficiencies. Seek
forgiveness with your heart and soul via the sincere
repentance [Tawbah Naṣūḥ], with all your available
faculties.

15. From Tirmidhī and Ibn Mājah: The Prophet 
mounted the pulpit, then wept and said: “Ask Allāh
for forgiveness and health. For after being granted
certainty, one is given nothing better than health.”

Sūrah Al-Nisā (4), Verse 106: “But seek


forgiveness of Allāh; for Allāh is Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful.”

16. Sūrah Āl ‛Imrān (3), Verse 19: “The only true


religion in Allāh’s sight is Islām: complete
submission to His Will.” From Tirmidhī: the Prophet
 said: “Say this prayer frequently. A person who
repeats “Yā dhal jalāli wal ikrām” many times will
be well rewarded.

17. A person who cannot defeat his enemy should


say: “Al Qawiyyu” with the intention of not being
harmed. He will be protected from harm. A person
who has problems should repeat: “Al Matīn”. His
problems will disappear Inshā-Allāh. And the
Prophet  said: “Whosoever loves to recite these
prayers, he will have a place in heaven.”

18. Abū Dardā’  reported, that the Prophet  said:


“There is no believing servant who prays for his

brother in his absence for whom the Angels do not
say: “The same be for you too.”

19. Sūrah Al-Isrā-īl, (17) Verse 110: “Say: Call upon


Allāh or call upon Raḥmān by whatever name you
call upon Him, for to Him belongs the Most
Beautiful Names”.

From Tirmidhī, narrated by Abū Hurayrah .


The Prophet  said: “Allāh Most High has Ninety-
Nine Names. He who commits them to memory will
enter Paradise.”

20. From Abū Dāwūd, narrated by Anas ibn Mālik


: “I was sitting with the Messenger of Allāh 
and a man was offering prayer. He then made
supplication: ‘O Allāh, I ask You by virtue of the
following: Praise is due to You; there is no deity but
You; the One Who shows Favours and Beneficence;
the Originator of the Heavens and the earth; O Lord
of Majesty and Splendour; O the Living One; O the
Eternal One.”

The Prophet  then said: “He has supplicated to


Allāh using His Greatest Name; when supplicated by

His Greatest Name, He answers, and when asked by
this, He gives.”

21. Sūrah Al-Nisā (4), Verse 106: “And seek


forgiveness of Allāh; for Allāh is Oft-Forgiving,
Most Merciful.”

Sūrah Hūd (11), Verses 3 and 90: “But ask


forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him (in
repentance); for my Lord is indeed Full of Mercy
and Loving-Kindness.”

22. Abū Dhar  reported that the Prophet


Muḥammad  said: “A man who recites: ‘There is
no God but Allāh.’ Allāh will prevent him from
entering Hell.” Commentaries on the Oneness of
Allāh [Tawḥīd] are lengthy.

23. From Bukhārī, narrated by Abū Sa‛īd al-Khuḍrī


; A man heard another man reciting Sūrah al-
Ikhlāṣ repeatedly. The next morning he came to
Allāh’s Messenger  and informed him about it,
with the idea that it was not enough to recite. On that
the Prophet  said, “By Him in Whose Hand my

life is, this Sūrah is equal to one-third of the
Qur’ān!”

From Al-Muwaṭṭa’, narrated by Abū Hurayrah


; I was walking along with the Prophet , when
he heard a man reciting Sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ. The Prophet
 said: “It is obligatory.” I asked him, “What is
obligatory, Oh Messenger of Allāh?” He  said:
“The Garden.”

24. From Bukhārī, narrated by ‛Ā’isha ; Whenever


Allāh’s Messenger  became sick, he would recite
Mu‛awwadhāt (Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah al-Nās)
and then blow his breath over his body. When he
became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two
Sūrahs) and rub his hand over his body hoping for
its blessings.

25. From Tirmidhī, narrated by Abū Sa‛īd al-Khuḍrī


; the Prophet  use to seek protection against the
Jinn and the evil eye, until Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah
al-Nās were revealed. After they were revealed, he
stuck to them and discarded everything else beside
them.

 Beneficent: doing or resulting in something
good.
 C.E: Common Era; the period since the birth of
Jesus (Nabī ‛Ῑsā) when the Christian calendar
starts to count the years.
 Bondsman: slave (lit. and fig.); servant;
servitude and obedience to Allāh.
 Certitude: a feeling of complete certainty.
 Collate: collect and combine documents or
information.
 Dhikr: (pl. adhkār); an invocation;
Remembrance of Allāh, motivated by the
invocation of His Divine Names and other
formulae of the Qur’an and Ḥadīth; from the root
word dhakara - to remember, think or relate.
 Dhikrullāh: (remembrance of Allāh); Dhikr:
invocation; a generic term that includes
categories such as awrād (sing. wird) and aḥzāb
(sing. ḥizb) that are usually translated as litanies.
A wird is a litany one chooses to recite for

invocatory purposes, while a ḥizb has a more
restricted meaning and application. In the context
of Dhikr it refers to a litany that is designed for
purposes of protection and safeguarding e.g. the
Ḥizb Al-Baḥr (Litany of the Sea).
 Du‛āh: supplicating to Allāh; the act of seeking;
desiring; asking; demanding; from the root word
da‛ā - to call or summon; appeal; invite; invoke.
 Du‛āt: (pl. of dā‛in); one who invites, inviter;
host; motive, reason, cause.
 Equitable: fair and impartial.
 Fervent: showing a strong or passionate feeling.
 Ghusl: the word ghusl means to let pure, clean
water flow over the body, with a specific niy’yah
(intention); a religious-spiritual cleansing of the
body.
 Ḥaflah: to gather, assemble, congregate; (social
or public) event; festivity, celebration, feast.
 Ḥajj: a holy pilgrimage to Mecca (performed by
Muslims) culminating at Mount ‛Arafah. This
religious event happens yearly between the 8th
and 13th of Dhul Ḥijjah, the twelfth month of the
Islamic calendar. It is compulsory for every
Muslim (who are by the means) to perform this
duty, once in a life-time.

 Ḥaqīqah: inner reality; the ultimate truth;
science of the inward; from the root word haqqa-
to be true, right, just, authentic and valid; and
haqaqa- to make something come true.
 Ḥijāz: the region along the Western seaboard of
Arabia, in which Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah and
Tā’if are situated.
 His Countenance: Allah’s Face.
 Holistic: to do something in a wholesome
manner; to treat the whole person rather than just
the symptoms of a disease.
 Iḥsān: performance of good deeds; excellence;
beneficence; from the root word aḥsana (IV) – to
act well; pleasingly; expertly; to do good deeds.
 Ijāzah: (pl. ijāzāt) ; a permission given by a
teacher to a student, certifying that he/she is
capable of teaching or transmitting a particular
work of his/her master.
 Imām Al-Ghazālī: The Imām was born in the
year 1058 C.E. in Tus, near the modern Meshed,
in Khurasān. The Imām, a scholar of distinction,
died in the year 1111 C.E. A Sūfi mystic, also
known as “The Proof of Islām”, lived in
Baghdād, ‛Irāq. He was instrumental in bringing

together the two extremes of Sunni
orthrodoxy/ritualism and mystical awareness/
devotion. His Magnum Opus, the Iḥyā ‛Ulūm-
Ad- Dīn (The Revival of the Religious Sciences),
is an ocean of knowledge, reason and arguments.
It liberally draws from the Qur’an, the Sunnah of
the Prophet , the companions of the Prophet
, and from the pious and illumed saints of the
early ages. The Imām, in the main, belonged to
the Shāfi‛ Sunnī sect.
 Imām: (pl. a’immah). It literally means “the one
who is placed at the front”. It also applies to any
person, specifically trained or not, who directs
the prayer, or who officiates during the Friday
sermons. More particularly, this term is used to
qualify a scholar who has historically left a mark
on the development of the Islamic Sciences and
knowledge, especially in the field of law and
jurisprudence.
 Īmān: faith; trust; belief; acceptance; from the
root word amuna (I) - to behave.
 Inaugurate: to introduce a system or project;
initiate; start; introduce; establish.
 Iniquity: sins; heinousness; immorality; evils;
can also mean great injustice or unfairness if
used in other contexts.

 Invocation: an appeal to God; Praising and
Magnifying Him; Remembering God.
 Islām: the literal meaning is submission (to the
will of Allāh); from the root word aslama (IV) to
submit; to commit (one self).
 Jannah: Garden; Paradise; from the root word
janna (I) - to cover; hide; conceal; veil.
 Ka‛bah: the word Ka‛bah means cube; the cube-
shaped shrine in the Great Mosque in Makkah is
the place towards which every Muslim person
turn when saying their prayers. In Muslim
tradition, the Ka‛bah was the first shrine on earth
built for God, by the first human-being, Ādam

 Khirqah: (pl. khiraq) a document which contain
the ijāzah.
 Litany: the invocation of a series of prayers.
 Manifest: to show something clearly especially a
feeling, an attitude or a quality; display; show;
exhibit; reveal; clear and obvious.
 Mawlūd: birthday; Mawlid -un-Nabī is the
birthday of the Prophet . It is not certain, but
many commentators believe the birth to have
taken place on 20 August 570 C.E. In the
Muslim calendar, it is celebrated on the 12th

Ṣūfis, celebrate it with Qur’anic readings, special
prayers and incantations.
 Nabī: pl. ambiyā’; Prophet; he who aquaints or
informs the human kind; from the word naba’a
(I) - to be exalted or elevated; to announce;
nabba’a (II) - to inform; make known.
 Nafs: self; soul; psyche; mind; human being;
man’s innate nature; his genetic predisposition
and conditioned behaviour; from the root word
nafasa (I) - to be precious; valuable; naffasa (II)
- to comfort; relief; air; uncover.
 Nār: fire; Hellfire; gunfire; from the root word
nawwara (II) - to flower; blossom; fill with light;
anwara (IV) - to illuminate; elucidate; come to

 Nūr: light; ray of brightness; illumination; glow.
 Oft: often; never-ending.
 Oft-Relenting: referring to Allāh, it means that
Allāh “often overlook” our shortcomings.
 Omnicient: knowing everything.
 Omnipotent: great and unlimited power.
 Qaḍā: it means the infinite knowledge of Allāh
in the Azal (Azal means the first time in the past
without beginning); Allāh’s infinite knowledge
concerning everything.

power and ability; to be master of something.
 Qalb: heart; middle; centre; core; from the root
word qalaba - to turn; turn around.
 Qubūr: (sing. qabr); grave

 Rabb: Lord; Master; from the word rabba (I) -

 Raḥīm: Merciful.
 Raḥmān: Compassionate.

 Self-Subsisting: referring to Allah, it means that
He is Independent, and that He Maintains
Himself, and Provides for Himself.
 Sharī‛ah: Revealed Law or a code of conduct;
the path of religious discipline.

 Sublime: of extreme beauty or excellence.
 Ṣūfism: The Arabic word is taṣawwuf probably
derived from ṣafā - purity or ṣūf - wool. Also
known as Islamic Mysticism which in many
respects is a misnomer. Ṣūfis stress the need,
among others, of personal purification and piety,
through constant awareness and love of Allāh ,
and honest and humble self-knowledge.
 Supererogatory: beyond the norm; beyond the
limits of human knowledge; too exalted to
contact or make connection with;
supertranscendant.
 Tahlil: (pl. tahālīl) – utterance of the formula Lā
ilāha illallāh.
 Ṭarīqah: a path; an Order; a clan; a tribe.
 Taṣawwuf: see Sufism
 Tasbīḥ: to Praise and Glorify Allāh.
 The Intended: referring to Allāh, it means “The
Meant To Be”.
 Ṭuruq: (sing. ṭarīqah); ways or paths; the Ṣūfis
use this expression to mean the ‘science of the
self’- the inner aspect of Shariah. It is a way of
applying the teachings of Islam to the realm of
the inner (esoteric) experience. The combination
