About formal invitations, as we know that the invitations could be printed on paper or sent via
email and with different purposes such as weddings, graduation ceremonies, annual dinners,
anniversary parties and birthday parties. The point of the invitation letter usually contains some
information about the host, the date and time of the event, the venue of the event and how to
accept the invitation. In this activity learned how to observe the stylistic of formal invitations, write
formal invitations in letters/email or invitation cards.

The social function is how to ask or request someone to go to a place, to do something, or to
participate in a certain event. The generic structure in formal invitation such as Name of the host,
Formal phrase of invitation, Details of the event (day, date, time, place), Reason of inviting, Special
note (e.g. dress code, reservation/RSPV). Lexico-grammatical suc as Phrasing in third person point
of view, Use of present simple, Special phrase for invitation (cordially invite, request the pleasure
of your presence, solicit your gracious presence, etc., Day and date are spelt out
