ISO/IEC 17025 is an international standard that provides requirements for testing and calibration laboratories to demonstrate technical competence and the ability to produce precise results. Originally published in 1999 by the International Organization for Standardization and International Electrotechnical Commission, the standard establishes requirements for laboratories' management systems, processes, resources and technical competence. Laboratories that meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 have shown that they can deliver reliable and accurate test data.

ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is the standard which covers the
“General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.”
ISO/IEC 17025 was first issued in 1999 by the International Organization
for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
It is the single most important standard for calibration and testing
laboratories around the world.
Laboratories that are accredited to this international standard have
demonstrated that they are technically competent and able to produce precise and accurate test and/or calibration data.
There have been three releases; in 1999, 2005 and 2017
The 2017 version of ISO/IEC 17025 has modified this structure to be
Scope, Normative References, Terms and Definitions, General Requirements, Structural Requirements, Resource Requirements, Process Requirements, and Management System Requirements.
ISO/IEC 17025 is useful for any organization that performs testing,
sampling or calibration and wants reliable results.
SO/IEC 17025 enables laboratories to demonstrate that they operate
competently and generate valid results, thereby promoting confidence in their work both nationally and around the world.
