ARDUINO BASED BLIND SPECT WITH BLIND STICK

ABSTRACT

With the increasing population and development there are a number of obstacles which occur
and can cause collisions which is a big threat to blind people. It is a necessity these days to
provide security and safety to Blind people. There have been few aids and devices designed to
help the blind. There are certain devices which are used today for helping the blind. The basic
ideas used were the white cane, and Guide dogs. White cane is the most successful and widely
used travel aid for the blind.

The project is hypothesizes a smart blind spect that alerts visually-impaired people over
obstacles, in front could help them in walking with less accident. It outlines a better navigational
tool for the visually impaired. It consists of a simple ultrasonic sensors to give information about
the environment.

By using ultrasonic sensor detect an obstacle. And patholes.

If any sensor detect then buzzer will beep automatically.

BLOCK DIAGRAM DESCRIPTION

Ultrasonic sensor is used for obstacle avoidance. The vibrator vibrates when an obstacle is
encountered which helps in alerting the blind person and allows enough time to change their
path. Also the second ultrasonic sensor used to measure the distance from object.

Also voice will provide through speaker.

Lcd displays any obstacle.

Or display the distance between object and blind person.

IR sensor also used to detect left and right side objects. IR sensor is used for pit and staircase
detection.

If any case accident occurs then only gsm module send an sms to the concern person.

If blind person need any help then panic switch is used here.

Blind person also used the cane through which we can detect patholes present on road using the

Ultrasonic sensor. And also detect water present in patholes using rain sensor. Water sensor is
used to detect the presence of water and provide an alert in time for path change so as to avoid
slipping.

This paper reports on a study that helps visually-impaired people to walk more confidently. The
study hypothesizes that a smart cane that alerts visually-impaired people over obstacles in front
could help them in walking with less accident. The aim of the paper is to address the
development work of a cane that could communicate with the users through voice alert and
vibration, which is named Smart Cane. The development work involves coding and physical
installation. A series of tests have been carried out on the smart cane and the results are
discussed. This study found that the Smart Cane functions well as intended, in alerting users
about the obstacles in front

[2]Using Ultrasonic Sensor for Blind and Deaf persons Combines Voice Alert and
Vibration Properties

Author: Mahdi Safaa A., Muhsin Asaad H. and Al-Mosawi Ali I.

Persons who are blind and deaf frequently suffering when exercising the most basic things of
daily life and that could put lives at risk while traveling, due to the lack of necessary equipment
in our country that provides them with assistance to avoid the risk, so came the idea of this
research in the design and manufacturing ultrasonic sensor handheld combines the properties of
sound monition and that benefit the blind and vibrating alert feature, which benefit from the
experience of deafness. Sensor can detect obstacles within the designed range (150 cm) to avoid
the blind person through the issuance of distinctive sound or vibration can be issued by the sense
of the deaf by putting his finger on the button at the top of the device vibrate when there is a risk.
OBJECTIVES

This project will fulfill the following objectives;

1. To design an Ultrasonic based blind spect for visually impaired people in which can detect
obstacles and provides alternative ways.

2. To alarm the user through speaker to determine the obstacles.

3. To build low cost blind navigation using arduino microcontroller.

ADVANTAGES & APPLICATION:

The system can be used both indoor and outdoor navigation

.  Blind person’s location can be tracked whenever needed which will ensure additional safety.

 Detects obstacles and alerts the blind person through vibration alert and speech output
CONCLUSION

The work analyzed the existing electronic aids for blind people and does not discuss any
implementation results. Based on the limitations in existing aids, this paper proposes an
enhanced assisting electronic aid using latest technology like Ultrasonic sensor used to detect
object and measures the distance this project aims to develop emergency trigger alert system
along with design.
