The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) was established through
the enactment of Republic Act No. 7796 otherwise known as the "Technical Education and
Skills Development Act of 1994", which was signed into law by President Fidel V. Ramos on
August 25, 1994

Republic Act No. 9155


This Act shall be known as the “Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001.” It shall be the
goal of basic education to provide them with the skills, knowledge and values they need to
become caring, self- reliant, productive and patriotic citizens. The school shall be the heart of
the formal education system.

Executive order No. 356


Executive Order No. 356, signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last September 13,
2004, the BNFE asssumes the new name, anchored on Section 12.1 of RA 9155, or the
Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001, which emphasizes that basic education includes
Alternative Learning System.

UNESCO
