Problem Statement

Early school dropout more specifically when starting high school is an ongoing social

problem due to economic, personal factors, shortcomings in the education system

among others, according to the Ministry of Education, school dropout is understood as

“dropping out of the school system on the part of the students, caused by the

combination of factors that are generated both within the system and in social, family,

individual and environment contexts. The intra-annual dropout rate only takes into

account students who leave school during the school year, this is complemented by the

interannual dropout rate that calculates those who drop out at the end of the school year.

The Ibero-American magazine infers that about 37% of Latin American adolescents

aged 15 to 19 interrupt the educational process during the school year and half of them

do so early, before consolidating primary school, in several countries the school dropout

At the end of the

elementary years and during the first year of middle school, school withdrawal differs

differently in countries and these are more common in rural areas.

Dropping out of school is one of the most mentioned topics at national and regional

level due to the large number of adolescents enrolled, therefore it is very important to

conduct a survey in the neighborhood of Rosario de Piedecuesta that points out the main

psychosocial factors that affect the dropping out of school to counteract this problem.
