B General Information SEN Plus
SEN Plus type tested assemblies are designed and manufactured in accordance with the very high
quality in requirements of internationally recognised standards applicable to low voltage equipment.
Due to the smart and simple design of the SEN Plus system “lead times” are reduced significantly.
The comprehensive range of SEN Plus system applications varies from withdrawable and fixed Power
Centres with air circuit breakers, Distribution Panels in plug-in, fixed versions with moulded case
circuit breakers and switch fuses to Motor Control Centres in plug-in, withdrawable or fixed technique
for fuse/ fuseless motorstarter applications.

B.1.2 Rated current, cross sections of phases and de-ratings
The maximum rated current of the busbar system mainly depends on:
The ambient temperature
The degree of protection of the enclosure (ventilation of the panel)
Form of internal separation
The rated currents in Table 2 are based on blank copper bars.
Actual Power Loss = (Actual Current / Rated Current)² x Rated Power Loss
Absolute Actual Power Loss = Actual Power Loss x Length of Main Busbar (width of panel)
4
The de-rating are based on IEC-61439-1 table-6 temperature rise limits & IEC 60439-1 table-2 temperature rise limits.
For performance at 60Hz refer to IEC 61439-1 clause 10.10.2.3.1 & IEC 60439-1 clause 8.2.1.1.

The doors are provided with inside hinges to mount them to the frame. All doors are pre-punched for
door locks, instrument plates for auxillary components and ventilation openings. The opening angle of
the doors is 130 degrees. Doors can be executed as one single door for one column / functional unit,
or as multi compartment door for a combination of functional units. Doors for Power Centre and Empty
Panel can be left or right hinged. The cable compartment door for the Control Centre is always a
single door right hinged (with swing handle lock). The IP54 in Power Center with EntelliGuard and M-
Pact is only available for big doors.
The roof construction is multifunctional design. The two standard arrangements are IP 30 (grid with
max opening 2,5mm) and IP 40 (grid with max opening 1mm). Add on materials enables a simple
column upgrade to either IP41 by using a rain canopy with an additional sealing (for roof and between
columns) or to IP54 by using the rain canopy with an additional rubber sealing (for covers, roof and
between columns). As an option for high current solutions a raised roof might be used, that ensures IP
30, IP 41 and IP 42 protection degree.
B.11

C Power Centre
C.1 General Characteristics
The Power Centre is subdivided in three functional zones:
Busbar zone
Equipment zone
Cable zone
The busbar zone is located at the rear of the column and contains the main horizontal and vertical
busbar system. Internal separation sheets are dividing the busbar zone from the equipment zone and
are protecting the operator against contact with hazardous parts. Additional separation sheet can be
provided to segregate the equipment zone from the cable zone.
Busbar zone
The busbar zone can be equipped with max.2 main busbar systems e.g. for coupling. One in the top
and one in the middle position up to 4000A, or one in the top and one in the bottom position for 4500
up to 6300A
Provisions are taken as standard to couple the main busbar system to the main busbar system in
adjacent columns from the front.9
Equipment Zone
The equipment zone can contain maximal 2 breakers per column as standard up to a nominal current
of 2500A.10 High availability is secured by withdrawable technique for circuit breakers.
Approx. 800 mm in height as free space to install control gear in the equipment zone.
Power Centres can be equipped with:
air-circuit breakers type EntelliGuard G,
air-circuit breakers type M-Pact,
moulded case circuit breakers type Record Plus,
load break switches type Dilos.
As standard the Power Centre is equipped with a full height or separate pre punched door with
ventilation openings and instrument plate for standard metering.
Cabling Zone
The cable zone is designed for fast and comfortable cabling. Cabling can be either through pre-
configurated copper links or directly to the switchgear. Control cabling through terminal strips.
Cables or busways can enter through the top or from the bottom, without increasing the total depth of
the switchboard due to position of the main busbar in the rear of the column.
For top entries an optional vertical PE/PEN can be provided.
Auxiliary busbar is foreseen for incomers with a nominal current above 2500A.
9
For MBB rated 4500A up to 6000A the connection requires free standing installation and rear access.

E Control Centre
E.1 General Characteristics
The principle of the Control Centre is similar to the Power Centre.
The Control Centre based on its functional units can be divided in four types:
Plug-in Control Centre - Cubicle Type A
Fused Feeder Control Centre - Cubicle Type B
Withdrawable Control Centre - Cubicle Type C
Fixed Type Control Centre - Cubicle Type F
The Control Centre is subdivided in three functional zones:
Busbar zone
Equipment zone
Cable zone

Figure 18 Column arrangements Control Centre. Figure 19 Column arrangements Control Centre.
(Plug-in, Withdrawable, Fused Feeder) (Fixed)
For standard plug-in, withdrawable, fused feeder control centre the busbar zone is located at the rear
of the column. For standard fixed control centre the busbar zone is located at the rear and left side of
the column. The busbar zone contains the main horizontal and vertical busbar system. Internal
separation sheets are dividing the busbar zone from the equipment and cable zone and are protecting
the operator against contact with hazardous parts. The standard equipment zone for the plug-in
control centre is separated from the cable zone by means of the individual sides of the module
installed. Additional separation sheets can be provided to segregate the equipment zone from the
cable zone in the event of uninstalled modules. For standard withdrawable control centre the
equipment zone is separated from the cable zone by means of additional separation sheet for each
module. The standard equipment zone for the fixed type control centre is separated from the cable
zone by means of additional separation sheet.
Busbar zone
The busbar zone can be equipped with maximal 2 main busbar systems. Standard positions are the
top and the middle position.
Provisions are taken as standard to couple the main busbar system to the main busbar system in
adjacent columns from the front25. The busbar connection is realized by usage of standard fish plates,
mountable from panel front.
25
For panels with MBB rated 4500A up to 6000A the connection requires free standing installation and rear access.
E.1
Equipment zone – Plug-in and Fused Feeder Control Centre
The effective stocking density in the equipment zone is 80E (1E=25mm). The standard separation to
the busbar zone is either through the backside of each individual module installed or through optional
moulded plastic finger proof shrouds. The standard way of mounting the electrical components in the
equipment zone is by means of steel carriers .The carriers (modules) are equipped with short circuit
proof and fatigue free self–aligning stabs on the backside to energize the module. In order to provide
extra space for auxiliary components, the modules can be provided with optional bottom plates. An
alternative way for fused feeders applications is the use of standard fused load break switch units.
These 3 and 4 pole units with rated currents up to 800A can be plugged–in directly into the vertical
riser system .The way of cabling for these units is direct to the switchgear. The fused load break
switch units can be combined with module applications in one column by use of special adapters. In
the events of switchboards applications with mainly feeders of the fused load break switch, the depth
position of the vertical riser will alter. For sub distribution applications with mcb’s, standardized
modules with a base frame from the VP system can be supplied. Fast and simple adjustable
compartment separation sheets can provide protection against passage of foreign particles and
electrical shock from adjacent compartments.
Enclosure
The maximum degree of protection is up to IP54 (according to IEC 60529). The standard degree of
protection for application with fused load switch unit is limited to IP41.
The maximum form of internal separation is up to Form 4b (according to IEC-61439-1 and IEC 60439-
1)
Doors and covers are made out 2mm sheet steel, epoxy powder coated in standard colour RAL 7035.
The column can be equipped with optional panel bottom plate with a removable aluminium gland
plate.
E.2 Arrangements
The height of the columns is 2200mm or 2000mm.

E.5 Vertical riser arrangements
The vertical riser system can be executed as a 3 or 4 pole design. The pole distance between the
phases is 60mm.
There are three different vertical busbar arrangements:
Type A & C: basically for feeder and motorstarter applications in module technique.
Type B: basically for feeder applications based on standard fused load break switch units in tie
form.
Type F: basically for feeder & fixed motor centers application.
For type A,B,C arrangement the base is formed by an L shape to which simply flat copper bus-bars
can be added to upgrade the nominal current of the system. The rated current is divided in 4 current
steps variations from 1000 up to 1900A.
For combinations of motorstarter applications and feeder applications with standard fuse load break
switch units, special adapters for panel arrangement type A & C are available up to rated currents of
800A.
For type F arrangement the base is formed by a flat copper bus-bars shape. It can have 1 layer or 2
layers of 100x10mm with rating 1600A and 2700A respectively. It is situated on the left hand side from
the equipment zone (functional units).

F Standard configuration in Control Centre
A functional unit is a combination of electrical and mechanical components, which form together an
application. The standard functions of the control centre varies from feeder and motorstarter
applications in module technique to fused load break switch units in tie form.
The plug-in modules and load break switch units are removable parts according to IEC 61439-1
clause 3.2.2 and IEC standard 60439-1 clause 2.2.6:
A part which may be removed entirely from the ASSEMBLY and replaced even though the circuits to
which it is connected may be live.
The withdrawable modules are withdrawable part according to IEC 61439-2 clause 3.2.101 and IEC
standard 60439-1 clause 2.2.7:
A removable part which can be moved from the connected position to the disconnected position and to
a test position, if any, whilst remaining mechanically attached to the assembly.
The Fixed modules units are fixed parts according to IEC 61439-1 clause 3.2.1 and IEC standard
60439-1 clause 2.2.5:
The disconnections of fixed parts may require the disconnections of the complete ASSEMBLY or parts
of it.
In case of Fixed modules the connections of main circuits can only be established or broken when the
ASSEMBLY is dead. In general, removable and installation of Fixed modules required the use of a
tool.
GE advices always to use the optional IP20 finger proof shrouds to the vertical riser system in case of
any modification of the functions.
GE advices always Switch off Mains while disconnection of Fixed Modules.
The electrical connections to the functional units are fixed or disconnectable as the table shows:
Table 82 Standard connections.
Disconnectable connection
a connection which is connected or disconnected by manual operation of the connected means
without a tool.
The supply side of the plug-in modules are executed with plug-in contacts.
Withdrawable connection
a connection which is connected or disconnected by bringing the functional unit into the connected or
disconnected situation.
F.1
Fixed connection
a connection, which is connected or disconnected by means of a tool.
Connections should be made either direct to the switchgear i.e. to the terminals of the thermal
overload relays (standard) or to a separate terminal strip (optional).
For the control circuits of the plug-in module both connections are possible: the 16 pole terminal strip
can be plugged (disconnectable) and additional secured by screws (fixed).
For the control circuits of the withdrawable module the 24 pole terminal is plugged (disconnectable).

G.2.6 Communication network
EntelliPro ES devices need to be connected by Profibus-DP or Modbus network. Main network is
located in Cable zone. It starts from PB Repeater device, then using T-connectors signal is divided for
several different ES devices located on modules, after that it finishes on PB Termination device. For
Profibus-DP 500kB is the maximum baud rate in withdrawable MCC’s. EntelliPro ES devices are
connected to the main network by 24 pole.
T-connectors cables are available in seven different lengths for different sizes of modules. They are
hide behind cable channel (Figure 43). In case of using several modules smaller that 10E size may be
necessary to create a loop using T-connector size 18E in order to squeeze network. In some cases
like spare module, or CP5 placed on Cable Compartment doors additional cables will be needed.
Additional/optional Electronic devices like PB Repeater, and PB Terminator could be located on
din rail on the top of Cable zone. Detailed information and guideline can be found on
www.profibus.com
In case when CP5 HMI is used additional network is needed to be created. This Modbus network
should be created using Twisted Pair Cable which starts from CP5, than is connected to different
auxiliary contacts and it finish on Termination.
It is not possible to use Modbus protocol for communication between EntelliPro ES devices and
SCADA system, and use EntelliPro CP in one network.

G.4 Sen Plus Marine version
G.4.1 General information about Marine version
The SEN Plus Marine version can be used in the Marine and Offshore market as a result of the American
Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certification.
The Product Design Assessment was made base on 2012 Steel Vessels Rules.
For each project an additional ABS inspector approval is required.
SEN Plus Marine is equipped with additional accessories required in Marine and Offshore applications,
which are handrails and door stoppers.
SEN Plus passed inclination tests for standard 22,5deg, as well as for 3031 deg. It allows it to be used as
Emergency equipment in Marine applications.
SEN Plus cannot be used in hazardous areas (i.e. in diesel engines rooms). It is allowed to be used in
environment with max. pollution degree 3. In such situation the clearance and creepage distances are as
per the IEC 61439-2.
ABS do not requires vibration testing; any restrictions coming from it are not limiting the usage of SEN Plus
Marine product line for dedicated applications.
Detailed restrictions regarding SEN Plus Marine version are described in certificate, see
DT-R-031-12
All detailed requirements of marine application are available at http://www.eagle.org/ on ABS publication
“Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessel Rules”.

G.4.6.1 Handles
Handle it is safety equipment necessary for keeping balance on the ship during unstable weather
conditions.
It is used on both PC and MCC panels.
Figure 49 Handle
Handles might have flexible localization in defined range. It is suggested to assembly handles on
equal height for whole switchgear. It should be on height between 900 and 1300mm above floor level.
G.25
Handles do not need to be located on every panel, especially on panels with width less than 500mm.
Maximum distance between two handles should not be greater than 800mm.
In MCC panel handles are assembled on dedicated cover (size 5E) between modules.
In PC panel handles should be assembled on doors. In panel Frame 1 and Frame 2 additional
bracket must be used as shown in assembly documentation.
In MCC panel handle cover uses 5E size, what leaves space 75E for modules on each MCC panel.
Due to location of cover, available space for modules below handle is 30E-48E and rest above.
Door stopper is an accessory which prevents door against closing in open position and needs to be
used in all Marine version applications.
It locks doors automatically in desired position, and have to be manually unlocked in order to close
doors.
The door stopper is made from three elements (hinge, pin and rail), and must be assembled on all
kinds of doors. It can be assembled on both left-hinge and right-hinge doors of every size in various
heights according to assembly documentation.
Chosen location should be the most comfortable for future user of the switchgear.
G.4.7 Inclination
SEN Plus passed inclination tests for standard 22,5deg, as well as for 30 deg (rating up to 4000A). It
allows it to be used as Emergency equipment in Marine applications.

Operating current and power loss of copper conductors.
The following tables provide guidance values for conductor operting currents and power losses under
ideal conditions within an ASSEMBLY. The calculation methods used to establish these values are
given to enable values to be calculated for other conditions.

Tc is the temperature of the conductor.
The operating currents can be covered for other ambient air temperatures inside the ASSEMBLY
and/or for a conductor temperature of 90 C by multiplying the values of Table 167 by the
corresponding factor k4 from Table 168. Then the power losses must be calculated using the formula
given above accordingly.

It shall be considered that, dependent upon the design of the assembly, quite different ambient and
busbars temperatures can occur, especially with haigher operating currents.
Verification of the actual temperature rise under these conditions shall be determined by test. The
power losses can be calculated by the same method as used for this Table 168.
At higher currents additional eddy current losses may be significant which are not included in the
values of the table.
