Advantages:

 Fits the given open plan criteria

 Good ventilation and airflow opportunities due to windows and sliding doors
 Living areas take full advantage of North
 Living areas are large and open for comfortable living – holiday house
 Can combine roof shapes on top of different rooms – creates interest
 Shape allows for possible installation of solar panels
 Decking is smaller but more suitable for such a small house

  Outdoor shower is undercover and close to bedroom for easy access
 Laundry with long cupboards for storage
 Has a dining table while living areas are still spacious
 Access to the Northern side of the house’s decking
 The reduced decking will allow light into the rooms while keeping the heat from the sun out
 Has a water tank – first step to become eco-friendly
Disadvantages:

 If I do have a combination of a skillion and gable roof that slope in the same direction (i.e. to each
other) then water will gather there if the guttering system isn’t advanced enough
 No outdoor dining
 Western side has no windows  reduces light
Improvements:

 Rethink roof shape so water doesn’t gather above a room, though could be a drawback that I can
deal with since there is no budget
 Add a window on the western side
Summary – Use in my Project:
Concept #4 is very likely to be my final design, though some slight fix ups and specifications might occur
though the structure, room layout and sizing will be very similar as I might make the rooms slightly bigger
(10-20cm) due to the wall thicknesses. In addition, since there is no budget, the drawback of maybe having
water gathering above a room which could lead to leaks can be prevented with extra guttering so I can deal
with this issue. However, after thorough thinking I have decided to remove the stumps which my house will
sit on, for multiple reasons including the complexity of the plans and dimensioning. Also, I have decided to
change the pitch of the skillion roof to 25 degrees as I thought 30 was too steep. Overall, I simply think that
this design is really good and it has the least amount of drawbacks out of all concepts and so I will be using it
as my final design.
